I live about 5 blocks from Abbot's Pizza Co. When I first moved in over 11 years ago I used to eat there frequently as it was cheap, fast, and good and it had a real "Venice locals" vibe to it. Over the years the prices started going up and the quality started going down until I reached the point of eating there only a couple of times per year. Fast forward to the other day. By now I couldn't even remember the last time I'd eaten there (and I love pizza and can skateboard there in about 3 minutes!). Nonetheless, I was craving a slice. I ordered my two go-to slices: wild mushroom and plain cheese. The cheese slice was dried out with a sauce that tastes NOTHING like a tomato based foodstuff (for that, btw, go to Joe's on Broadway in Santa Monica. THAT is what a tomato based pizza sauce is supposed to taste like.) In my opinion it's pretty hard to screw up a plain cheese slice. In short, this one was nearly inedible. As for the mushroom slice I can't even tell you what was going on with the sauce but it was awful. The cheese was that low quality stuff that feels like some kind of molten plastic and has no flavor. All in all it was a total disappointment and a million miles from what it used to be like over a decade ago. Sadly, much like Venice itself (thanks a lot Google!). As for the Venice vibe Abbot's used to have? Gone. The place has cleaned up its act. This is the rare case where that sentence is a complaint. Gone is the old bulletin board of roommate searches, lost dogs, and low rider bicycles for sale, now it's a bunch of framed bed, bath and beyond framed photos of pizza being made and an ugly-ass T shirt for sale that says "Venice State of Mind" on it and depicts what appears to be a person's head exploding. At least they got that right. It's how I feel about what has happened to my beloved neighborhood. Good bye forever Abbot's Pizza Co. I'm gone for good. read more

Tried the pizza here and it barely passed as pizza. Tons of mediocre cheese and flavorless sauce were the stars of this place. To make matter worse I paid $30 for a small pizza with 4 toppings and a salad. Took me a few hours to shake off the disappointment. read more

whoah. ive had really good pizza here but this was old and dry and no one seemed to care. i met the owner years ago and hes a sweet guy and knows good pizza but maybe needs to exert some quality control on what is served because i feel ripped off.... of course we were hungry and ate it anyway so i couldnt really say much after that. so get it fresh only kids. read more

The bagel crust adds an interesting twist to the slice. The pizza is very similar to a NY slice, but with a chewy bagel crust. This place would not be first on my list for pizza, but definitely a second or third choice. read more

We had delivered an XL Pepperoni Pizza. Its ok, not bad, but not great. A true N.Y Pizza does not have as much tomato sauce on it as this place puts on the pizza. I probably won't order again...too many other places to try....sorry. read more

The pizza here is top-notch. Some of the best in Southern California. The main reason that I'm giving this establishment three stars instead of four or five is mainly due to their customer service and their inability to deliver their items as ordered. Over the last couple of months, we have ordered food from this restaurant and have had the orders botched and/or missing items. The last two occasions have been especially frustrating. We ordered a half pineapple, half mushroom pizza and were delivered a pizza with cheese on one side and pineapple and mushroom on the other. Just today, we ordered an extra large cheese bomb pizza and three single slices of pepperoni and mushroom. The cheese bomb pizza was excellent, but my friend received only two of three slices of pizza. They apologized over the phone and delivered the final slice shortly afterwards, but that final slice had cheese that wasn't fully melted, as if it was made at the local 7-11. This restaurant could easily transition from good to excellent if its employees paid as much attention to their customers' orders as they do towards their pizza crafting. read more

delicious gluten free pizza, but the gluten free pizza slices are about half the size of the normal pizza so you get less for your money

Booo. I remember eating good pizza a long time ago at this restaurant. Not tonight, though! We ordered an extra large cheeseless veggie pizza. I love pizza crust so much I will typically eat any old leftover mediocre crust. This crust was inedible though. So over-baked it was tooth-chipping hard. The pizza itself did not have enough sauce. Came here before and the pizza was great. Called an hour before closing to order a gluten free pie and they said no - it was to close to when the shop closes. It's very surprising that a small business would refuse to make a pizza for a customer when there is still an hour of business left. I'd love to get a response as to why they couldn't make me a pizza with an hour's notice. read more

I've tried to like this place but the first time I ordered delivery they brought the wrong pizza, the second time it was alright, and the third time I stopped in after a night at the Brig and all I could taste was salt. If you watch Seinfeld and know about the Soup Nazi/Soup Kitchen then you will understand my experience. I'm in line, like three people in front of me. The lady is calling out, better yet screaming out NEXT..The line was moving too fast and it was my first time here. I wasn't sure what I wanted even though I had looked at their online menu. NEXT, my turn...All I remember is saying 1 cheese slice, 1 pepperoni slice and 2 meat lovers and a caesar salad. She checked to make sure that she had the salad and then I paid. It wasn't bad once I got to ordering, but I was anxious in line with all the fast NEXT screaming. I felt like I had one shot to order right. Anyway, the place was small and cramped and there were several people behind me, in front of me and on the side of me. The people in their seemed pretty "hippieish" to me and a few smelled like bums, but only I probably noticed that. On to the food...The pizza crust seemed to be brushed with different seasonings depending on the slice. It was good, but once you tasted a part that didn't have those seasonings it was the most bland pizza ever. I mean flour and water for real. The pizza in itself was thin. My pepperoni was okay and so was the cheese pizza. Nothing exciting and I was hungry so almost anything would have been wonderful, but not this. When I say okay, I'm being real generous. My husband said the meat lovers was not good. All they did was pile some meat on top of an already made cheese pizza and then stick it into the oven. They didn't even think to add some cheese to it. The price was ridiculous for what you actually got. I will never waste money at this place again. I'd rather waste it at Beech Street Pizzeria in Manhattan Beach or Stefano's at the Howard Hughes Promenade in Westchester. At least their crust has some taste. Also the salad, some romaine lettuce and they're homemade caesar dressing. The most awful dressing I have ever tasted in my entire life. It tasted like some type of flavored mayonnaise. Awful!!! Sometimes the pizza is not so good, and most of those times I am sober. But at night when I have been drinking and just want to get something greasy in my stomach than this place rocks ! Sometimes I get the salad pizza when i am on diet, its not really a pizza or a salad but a little of both, probably not really good for diet now that I think about it. I think about bringing some cream cheese or lox for these bagel crusts, but never do - not really sure they taste good or even loke bagels but people make a big deal about them. read more

I ordered a pizza for delivery. An hour and a half later and $34, some snarky delivery guys throws the pizza in my hands and drives off leaving me without the sauces and condiments. When I call the store hey say sorry he will come back. I called again half hour later and they said another 20 minutes. It has now been an hour and I am guessing the guy isn't coming back. The girl who answered the phone said they use a delivery service. I would suggest getting a new one, because $30 pizza without sauce is not cool and not good!!! Everyone kept raving about the salad pizza and telling us to get it so we bought two slices (one for the both of us) and paid over ten bucks and I'm sorry to say but I will never get it again. I couldn't finish it. Their other pizza is to die for. They have big slices for cheap. The water they give you to drink is hot. Very little places to sit. But their pizza is AMAZING. I wish I could give this place 5 stars but after my experience yesterday I feel like 2 is ok. For starters, the customer service sucks. No one greeted me when I walked in they were having side conversations in Spanish. Next no one asked if there was anything they could help us with. I ordered the five onion and another one that has spinach on it (not sure what it's called). The reason I'm writing this review is because I'm a little concerned about the cleanliness of one of the workers. I saw Angel take some money out of his pocket with his bare hands then grab my pizza out of the oven. That is disgusting. I didn't say anything but I wish I would have spoken with the manager. Money is very dirty so touching food without washing your hands is unacceptable. The pizza was delicious so 5 stars for the taste. I don't know if I would return because I was a grossed out by Angel. read more

Next time you're in the mood for pizza and are considering going to Abbot's go to Ralphs and buy a frozen pizza and heat it up. You will not regret this decision. My guess is they are able to stay in business through a good location, its DEFINITELY not the quality or taste of the pizza! read more

Don't order for delivery on a Saturday night. We placed order at 8pm and we're told it would be delivered in an hour (we live 1/2 mile from Pizza Co). After an hour and half, we called, but they couldn't find the driver. Had to cancel the order, but couldn't get a refund because we used a credit card. Also was entirely inaccurate about when the driver was en route (it would have been faster if I had walked there and brought it back). I still can't figure out why people like this place. Maybe because the bar has been set so low because most LA pizza sucks? And anyone that says Abbot's pizza is like NY pizza has never, ever had pizza in NY. Regardless, this place is excruciatingly slow, over priced and the pizza is "meh"- at best.
