There are photographers, and then there is Mindie. Over the last several years, my husband and I…read morehave used numerous photographers to capture the precious moments of our lives. While their work was good, it failed to be great. Doing a photo session is not just about having your pictures taken and it resulting in a gratifying visual outcome, it's about the experience.
For the price that many photographers charge--typically thousands--it doesn't seem too much to ask for. And after thoughtful consideration, there was one thing all of the photographers we worked with had in common: They had been in the business for so long that they no longer had a human touch. They often rushed through our sessions and didn't take the time to get to know us as a couple or as individuals. Or, if they did, their attempt to learn us was not genuine--it was just something that was expected of them. For this, each time we've failed to get the images or experience we desired and in the end, were left with a bad taste in our mouths. For these photographers, it wasn't about the subjects; it had strictly become a business and source of income.
In May, when we found Mindie, we were lured in by her amazing photos and reasonable price. To be honest, after having dealt with a host of robot photographers, we were prepared for another R2-D2. To our surprise, she was quite the opposite and was a breath of fresh air.
I can't begin to express how much we enjoyed working with Mindie. She went above and beyond for us. Prior to our session, Mindie and I spoke several times about what I was looking for in our maternity shoot. I was 8 months pregnant at the time and was completely stressed out by the physical demands of pregnancy and work. My brain was fried and I really didn't want to put too much thought into the session--I had enough things to deal with. Mindie asked what I had always envisioned for my maternity shoot. My ideas were all over the place. I couldn't decide between doing something at a park or at the beach, and I didn't know what I wanted to even capture or get from those settings. Mindie could tell I was scatterbrained and needed help reeling in the ideas, so she went to the drawing board and came back with some amazing concepts--we would do part of the shoot at the beach and the other part in her home studio (boudoir).
On the day of the shoot, she picked my husband and I up from our home and courted us to Zuma Beach, which was over an hour away! She did not request extra funds for gas either. Along the way, we spoke like longtime friends. She really picked our brains and got to know who we were at heart. By the time we reached Zuma, we had all established a level of comfort that we had not experienced with any other photographer. Though my husband and I look like models (lol), we lack the poise and poses. This was not a problem. Mindie directed us the entire time, and not once did she become frustrated or lose focus. She loves what she does and like she said, "could do it for hours." She didn't lie. She patiently shot us for over 3 hours at the beach, and still she had more to give. For every shot we had a different pose. And she made us feel great by telling us when she captured the perfect image. She also injected some honesty--she was not afraid to tell us "chins up" or "relax your mouth," nor was she hesitant to pull the images up on her camera so that we could see why she made the recommendation. She was on the right end of the camera and knew what was best for us. The outcome: great pictures that our friends and family loved.
I was so excited about showing off the images that I immediately posted them on Facebook. The result: over 100 likes and tons of compliments. Her work was flawless and surpassed our expectations.
The boudoir shoot, which some may find uncomfortable given the minimal amount of clothing you wear, was great too. She made me feel comfortable, and I trusted her eye and ability to make the images tasteful. My husband LOVED them and could not stop telling me how good pregnancy looked on me.
Now that our baby is here, we can't wait to have Mindie shoot her now and for years to come. Choose Mindie as your photographer, you won't regret it.
