Absolutely loved my experience at Rate Field. I was excited to try new food choices, which we…read moredefinitely did, and to see improvements since the last time I was there. We sat in the 300 level seats, so it was an option to order to your seat, which was very nice. The seats were excellent views of the field and scoreboard. Foods we tried: Polish Sausage- wow with the onions, yeah great Bulgogi Egg Rolls- just don't overthink it and order them, unbelievable Cookie Dough- ugh, not my thing, cold maybe would be better Sushi- great, cute, even comes with a vile of soy sauce Korean Dog- I did not try, but the friends said it was really good Nachos- GREAT, you can get them with the helmet Parking in the B lot was a breeze and you can tailgate, getting out, still a ton faster than Dodger Stadium!

Editing this before first pitch and this is why: was eagerly awaiting to go eat at Lucky's as it…read morewas close to our seats the other day, but since we ate at the ChiSox Bar and Grill because of the rain delay and I was full, I planned on eating there tonight. Well, tonight we did not get 100 level tickets so we couldn't even go on the concourse !!!!! WTF? This is my 24th baseball stadium and I've never heard of such stupidity--- I guess you don't want me to spend my money where you have better food choices than crappy $5 hot dogs ( although I got an $8 plus Vienna one.. and it sucked) From a 4 star to a two star review....Also, what if it was our first time at the stadium like two days prior, and we wanted to see all the statues, etc., and get a feel for the stadium but could not??? So, two games here and done . Too bad, great stadium and the BEST fans but GO CUBBIES Second time here in 2 days. The good: *easily accessible by rail *dedicated and diehard fans (one youngest kid, mid 20s? And obviously had been drinking, apparently bumped into my husband, unbeknownst to him, and tracked my husband down about five minutes later to apologize. I mean, who does that? Very impressive.) *beautiful stadium/ great scoreboards with pertinent stats *awesome organist *huge 2 story team store with lots of merch and several life size bobble heads *dedicated first time game booth with certificates and button ( thanks Allie!) * What appears to be a fantastic kid zone, but if you don't have kids under 12, you can't go in. Keeps out the pervs and I respect that * Very friendly and helpful security (Carl at the 100 level) /ushers/employees *lots of statues, history ( mostly on the 100 level) *several restrooms, kept clean with attendants right there *lots of food choices including perogies/ empanadas combos --couldn't get this either :( * Fun fan giveaways ( got my pope hat!) with fantastic lineup . Pregame band and continuous theming all day * the option to pay a fee to guarantee you will get a giveaway if you can't make it to the stadium early Cons: * so we were able to walk in with water bottles, but security at the gate took our plastic bag holding them ; for what purpose I don't know? Wanted to put our giveaways and dirty ice cream helmets in there. *the ice cream was terrible , and I rarely complain about ice cream * Not sure why you don't offer women's Jewelry such as FOCO, BaubleBar, etc. Missing a huge market. Same for Montana West and Dooney purses *once again security not letting fans onto the 100 level on pope night ( 8/11)

Early mornings especially are peaceful -- fresh air, open space, and just a solid environment to clear your head. I also play pickleball here, and the courts always have a good energy. They can get active, but I've never had any issues. People are respectful, games rotate smoothly, and it feels like a positive community vibe rather than chaotic. The park is well kept, clean, and just overall reliable. I've been coming here consistently for runs and games and have genuinely never had a problem. It's one of those neighborhood spots you're glad to have nearby.

Portage Park is big enough to go on a pretty long nature walk. Also it's popular for photography and other events. The park has a massive Olympic size swimming pool that has hosted competitions and trials. Best thing about this area is this beautiful green space that's the center of the community. It's got something for everyone. The athletic facilities and fields are the most well known. So many to choose from. These include five baseball fields, two football or soccer fields, and six tennis courts just among the stuff you can find outdoors. Has two fieldhouses. Of course there's also the swimming pool. This has hosted the Pan American Games and also the 1972 Olympic Trials. Also there's an indoor one that's heated. There's an interactive water play area popular in summer. A lot of after school and youth programs are offered. These include gymnastics and woodcraft. Boxing is also a popular program offered here. There's been many who went on to the Olympics and professional careers after being taught. Some come to this park just to get outside. There's a bike path and nature walk if wanting to get easier exercise without using balls and stuff. Good park for all kinds of activities. It's located on Irving Park Road. The CTA station is a ways away, but buses go along this street pretty often, even on weekends.

There are 2 park buildings for indoor activities. It is a shame that they haven't been able to open the swimming pool due to a lack of lifeguards. What is unique about Welles park is the native plant section which looks wild and is not manicured like the rest of the park. They have made a bunch of logs into a more natural walking & climbing setup. Some even form circles.

Welles Park is a center for recreation in Lincoln Square. There's the park itself, in which you will often see parties, picnics, and the like taking place. There's a playground, tennis courts, and baseball fields; the playground is ADA compliant. The field house is large, and houses both exercise equipment and an indoor pool which is popular. The gazebo is wired for sound, and is a popular location for performances of various kinds. Welles has programs geared directly toward developmentally disabled individuals as well. Parking is iffy here; there's no parking lot, and it's a popular park. There is parking along all the surrounding streets, however. Folks who have read some of my other reviews may know I love trivia, and here's the bit of trivia I can share with you about Welles Park. In the 1920s, a man named Abe Saperstein began teaching basketball here in Welles Park. Over time, he began recruiting African American players from the south side to play in other Chicago locations. His players eventually started doing tricks with the basketball, for which they gained their greatest fame, and you've heard of this team: The Harlem Globetrotters.
