    Hamlin Park pool
    Hannah O.

I go to this park with the kids I nanny and we love it. The pool is great in the summer and the playground offers lots of different things to do. The schedule can be a little annoying but there is a good chunk of time in the afternoons to swim and the pool is well-maintained.

Thanks Rahm for the exceptional public school system that keeps neighborhood kids out of their neighborhood school.

There is not much to love about this park. I play tennis here 2 - 3 X per week and the staff are great too, especially Rich and Jose.

Getting into a cardio class is extremely hard as there is limited about of spots. Additionally you have to have a verified 3.0 rating or above to get into the classes. I take the medium impact classes which has a capacity of 12 people. On average 8-10 people show up for class. It is a really good workout. There are 6 courts but 2 can be used for pickleball. I like this facility as there is ample parking. Also it is nice to see the ice skating classes and practices. The facility itself has lockers, water machines, vending machines and elevator lift for accessibility. I also had my racket re-strung by Carlos for a decent price. I was able to drop it off and pickup the next time that so was at the facility.

Pretty sure they have teenagers running this entire operation. Went for free skate on a Saturday,…read morewhich I assumed would be busy. I few things I also assumed is that they'd have a system for their line, which stupidly spiraled around the lobby confusing every single new person that came. By the time I got to the front (only an hour left in free skate at this point), they sold out of all but three sizes (that's including men/women/kids). No effort to proactively inform people wasting their time in line. The person I came with brought their own skates so they still went on the ice while I watched, but the rink was total chaos. They allowed way too many people on the ice and the teenage Skate Guards were completely useless, staring at their phones or just staring at the ground bored. Fire those guys for sure. Absolute bust of an afternoon. From what I hear this place wasn't always this bad. To management: Please offer some kind adult only skate time and find Skate Guards who give a damn. To prospective free skaters: Go somewhere else.

Great weight room,…read morelots of treadmills & cardio equipment, I play basketball there weekly with a group of great guys, I know they've got good classes in terms of Zumba or some of the other HIIT classes. What royally sucks is I've had 2 bikes stolen from this location (one locked with a strong steel U-lock, one with a strong Kryptonite lock), and one bike stolen from the elementary school just up the street. This area is a hotbed for criminals to come & steal things, even with very quality equipment to lock your things up. I've been in communication with the Y for over a year to ask for inside access to park bikes, no resolution. They have one of the perpetrators on video stealing my bike, but can't do anything about it. I emailed them politely to ask for 2 things from them: 1. Inside place to park our bikes 2. I don't expect any type of reimbursement for the bikes, but I asked if they'd take the hardship under consideration & comp a year of membership for our fam of 4 who is their weekly. Response I received from Elena Garcia, the community concierge director: Hi Kyle, Thank you for being a valued member of our Lake View Y community! I understand this is incredibly frustrating, especially this being the 3rd time. While the incident occurred in front of our hub, unfortunately the area is not our property, which limits what we are able to do directly. We are glad to hear you have already filed a police report, and we also encourage you to reach out to the alderperson's office, as they may be able to help advocate for additional safety measures in the area. We also appreciate your suggestion about indoor bike parking. At this time, we are unable to offer indoor bike storage due to limited space. Regarding your request for a complimentary year of membership, we truly understand why you asked. However, since the incident did not occur on our property and was outside of our control, we're not able to honor that request. If we can of further assistance at this time, please let us know. Not your property? You mean the bike racks, directly outside of your front door, on your sidewalk, that your staff tells us to park our bikes at, that is surveillanced by your cameras, isn't your property? Interesting. No offers of any type of resolution. No offers of any type of compensation. Just pass the buck to someone else. Deplorable display of leadership.

Another employee named Connor said he would investigate and talk to Heather. Well that investigation was fairly quick. Connor emailed me back immediately stating that my membership was "mistakenly" canceled by Heather. Who mistakenly cancels a gym membership?? What a poor excuse, Connor. And supposedly my card on file was not valid for the month of January 2026. But the same card was valid all of 2024 and 2025 and they sure took my money. I decided to spend my money else where. My one issue is the billing department. I pay 75$ a month to have a membership here, and when I got a knee injury that required crutches and a massive heavy metal brace around my leg, my Doctor told me I was not allowed to work out until I was cleared by her as I might need surgery. This did not warrant a good enough reason for them to let me cancel my membership (because I can still do arm workouts according to them). During my four month recovery I was still charged a 15$ fee instead of the entire amount. Then, when I'm finally cleared and ready to get back to the gym my monthly membership charge declined, and I immediately noticed and put enough money in my account to pay for it. To my surprise the next day I got a charge for $98 instead of $75, and when I called they said their reasoning was because there's a service fee if they have to run your card again. A $23 dollar random fee is insane. This company is too focused on making as much money as they can off of each person who joins and honestly I won't be renewing my membership when it's time.

This is a fairly large no frills gym with a good variety of the equipment you would want, but it…read morehas one fatal flaw: It's overcrowded, particularly if you're looking to do weight training (cardio never seems to be an issue). If you strength train at an off-peak time, say first thing in the morning or late at night, you'll be just fine, but most other times expect to wait to get on certain machines and good luck trying to secure a weight bench or squat rack. A locker room makeover is also much needed. I've seen the membership at this location grow significantly over the years and can't help but wonder what LA Fitness' portfolio strategy is. Since LA Fitness bought X-Sport and then closed their nicest location in the North Side on Broadway in Lakeview, many of those members now come to this location and the infrastructure just doesn't support so many members at peak times. LA Fitness Corporate, I hope you are reading this. There is an obvious solution right in front of you that should have you seeing dollar signs. There is a massive gap in your portfolio in Chicagoland in that you don't have a Signature Club anywhere on the North Side of the city. The Loop downtown or Niles are the closest Signature Club locations. Not only is this location on Lawrence the home club of many LGBT members who likely would be more than capable and willing to pay a little more for a nicer facility and less crowding, the gym could easily expand on the cheap into the former Sears Auto space right next door as it has been sitting vacant for years. Instead, they're competing on the Planet Fitness end of the pricing spectrum with no membership cap in sight. Time to upgrade and expand to a Signature location to give everyone a better experience and reduce overcrowding. It would fulfill a much needed and unmet need in the local market and prevent members who have about had it with the overcrowding from turning elsewhere.
