Every day they have at least 2 deck supervisors with clipboards observing all the classes. Sometimes they suggest having specific students test; other times an instructor will flag them to test a kid in their class. If you ask at the end of class, they'll tell you what skill they need to work on to move up. I'm sure if you work with your kids between classes, they move up faster, but the notion that they hold kids back without reason just doesn't ring true based on what I've observed. Side note that my kids really enjoy the warm environment in the pool area. They don't need time to adjust to a cold pool & their muscles don't immediately freeze up due to cold air when they get out. So, my son had familiarity with swim lessons, but he had never been able to float or do much of anything on his own in the water. I mean, he is still working on blowing water bubbles becuase he hates putting his face in the water. So, to see Allyson *magically* had him doing all this with 2 lessons... I mean, I have no words to express my appreciation! She knows what she is doing! She is teaching life saving skills first! He is the most exceptional swim instructor I've ever encountered and we had several before we decided to exclusively have our son swim with him. He is so patient, and does an exceptional job at balancing silliness to bond with the children and discipline to motivate the little swimmers to want to be better and level up to make him proud. My son has been coming to water wings since 9mo old but had to stop for a year due to ear infections. When he returned he was terrified to submerge his head under water and it was just by random chance that he was in a group class with Ryan! He quickly took to Ryan and would scream bloody murder if he didn't swim with his favorite instructor, so we opted for private lessons! It was at that point that everything took a huge turn! We had originally signed Jaxon up to be "water safe" but he was so motivated and built such an amazing bond with Ryan that he has stayed with him for now more than a year in a 1:1 setting and now wants to competitively swim. HE IS now the best swimmer in the house, and is far beyond his peers AND his older friends who are 7+. At THREE YEARS OLD our son has almost perfected the breaststroke, freestyle, 6 kick switches, dominates backstroke, is doing front flips diving into the water, tumble turn flips off the wall, can swim underwater, deep dive for objects, can hold his breath for more than 30 seconds and so much more! NOBODY has ever seen anything like this. Ryan is truly one of a kind and we will forever be grateful for all that he's done for Jaxon! She was still in the class with 4 year olds and is almost 6. Multiple kids she started with were moved up in an appropriate timeline but not her. Every time we spoke to them about it they said she was almost ready but never took any action. As someone else with a similar review mentioned, the beginners groups class teachers are useless and treat it as playtime instead of actually teaching my child how to properly swim. Or care enough to make sure she's moving up to a level where she can actually be challenged to grow instead of splash around with toddlers. We will never attend classes here again. We removed her and are going elsewhere.

My son had almost no experience in a pool before we started classes. He can also be extremely cautious and careful and usually takes longer than his peers to feel comfortable with a new situation. And then to make matters even worse, we tried another teacher right before Andy, who kept forcing my son's head underwater and ignoring his pleas for her to stop. So going into these classes my son was pretty on edge and would cry at almost every class for the first few weeks. But Andy was VERY patience with my son. Andy created the perfect balance of knowing when to play games and have fun and when to push my son to learn a new skill! Because of that balance, my son was able to learn a bunch of water skills, including jumping into the water and swimming back to the edge (helping him to be much more water safe), plus he now loves the water and loves swimming. He now wants his birthday party to be a pool party and he wants to be a Life Guard Scientist when he grows up. My son now has confidence in the pool and he loves it! And I feel much better about his safety at the pool because of the new skills he has learned!

If you are sitting on the side of the pool watching, it's pretty uncomfortable. There is plenty of other sitting outside of the pool area that's nice and cool though! The instructor we had at another Water Wings was so unenthusiastic we were not sure about giving Water Wings another shot but I'm glad we did. We are still pretty early in the swim lesson journey, so I will be sure to update my review. The baby and me class is 30 mins and it goes by quickly. I love that they have showers and dressing rooms so you can change after the class. They even have some small snacks for sale which is nice if your kiddo gets hungry. I can't wait for us to graduate to the next class up because the process of the kids moving up looks so cute! What ultimately led me to write this review, though, was not the instructors--it was the customer service. My interactions with the scheduler/representative regarding scheduling, missed days, and invoices were unpleasant and rigid. There was very little kindness or willingness to work with me, and the communication felt cutthroat rather than supportive. Because of this inflexibility, my son essentially missed out on continued lessons. Instead of working with me as a parent trying to navigate life with two young kids and a disabled husband, I felt pushed out over a missed appointment. In retrospect, I now see how much that experience negatively impacted my son's relationship with the water. I'm writing this while watching my son thrive at Water Wings, where he is happy, confident, and excited to learn.
