She understood what my spouse and I were talking about when we told…read moreher about being a queer and polyamorous couple, and that our wedding wasn't going to have a lot of the traditional elements (like a ceremony, first look, first dance, wedding attendants, cake-cutting, etc.) - it was a relief to get to describe what we wanted to a vendor who was part of the community and familiar with different kinds of queerness and relationships. She made sure to ask about who in our party was out, and to what degree, just in case a sticky situation arose. Cate managed to capture both formal portraits and nice-looking outtakes from in-between formal portraits; got photos of all our guests, and took a lot of candid photos from the dance floor without us even realizing she was there until we saw the album afterwards. She captured all of the detail shots that we had asked for, and innovated a couple of her own that were much appreciated. Both of us have terrible memories, and rely heavily on photographs to remember even really important events. Cate understood this and did a great job photographing things so that we would be able to remember them without worrying. We paid for six hours of just Cate working, which included time spent on the formal photographs, and resulted in just over 700 photos processed and sent to us far faster than we had expected! I think it took her a month or two less than her estimated timeline. Her rate isn't cheap, but she was absolutely worth it, and we were happy to have her working for us for the day! She's been enthusiastic the whole way through, great at adjusting on the fly, and stellar about following up with us. (This review is for our wedding a year and a half ago - I just found the draft I'd written in 2023 and realized I never posted it anywhere!)

From the moment we reached out to inquire about her availability, Cate has been super responsive and we could tell she was genuinely interested in our story as well as how we wanted to tell that story through photos. The session went as well as I could have imagined - Cate made us feel so comfortable to be ourselves in front of the camera by connecting with us, listening to our wishes and offering so many ways for us to relax, focus on each other and feel pretty. And the final photos! are! gorgeous! The intimate vibe we loved and wanted to capture is there in our photos, but it also feels unique to us and isn't just a replica of Cate's previous work. There isn't a photo in which we faked our smiles - they're all eye-squinting nose-wrinkling happy laughs and giggles and tender moments because we had that much fun during our session. Her edits were beautiful and when I had an additional request, she was very accommodating as well. Now my only regret is that our wedding isn't remotely close to Connecticut so that we could have Cate as our photographer. She's amazing at what she does and if you have a chance to work with her, I'd 100% go for it.

We were hoping to get photos done before our son's 1st birthday and she was able to provide us with a great date/time option. We really lucked out. On the day of our shoot we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The drive to the studio was beautiful and worth it - we drove from over 30 minutes away. The studio was immaculate and ready to go for our time together. Her prep email was extremely detail oriented and let us know exactly what to expect. Once there we could easily see the setups and there was a perfect place for us to finish getting ready. Communication was easy whether it was through email that included a bunch of questions or a simple text message asking for feedback or an opinion. As soon as we solidified that we would be using Kat's services I was able to share my pinterest board with her and she continued to check in on what ideas I continued to pin. On the day of our wedding she pulled out a binder full of all the photos I had pinned. I loved that she was always on top of it! I booked Kat with two other photographers for around 8 hours of service. Within my package it also included an extra mini photo shoot. The reception photos were endless of our guests and my husband and I interacting with family and friends. They captured such FUN memories and even a romantic moment of my husband and I embraced in the love of the day slow dancing with everyone else on the dance floor. Not to mention there may have been a lift or two throughout some of the song choices! By the end of the night I asked what Kat and her team what they were still doing there and they said they were having so much fun! It truly made my night! If you have spent any amount of time in New Haven, you may have gleaned that it is a place of…read morenotable hidden gems: food and history - to name two. Paul Duda is another one of those gems. I don't think it's a coincidence that his studio is right next to Frank Pepe's. I only spent one photoshoot with Paul, but that was enough to know that Paul is a genuine talent and human. I needed headshots for residency applications and hadn't gotten professional photos in at least a decade. He happily accepted my fiancée and I into his studio (which is virtually a photography museum), showed us his vast works, and talked to us about travel and football. He is deliberate in his work, making sure to capture my natural smile and angles. He kept us both relaxed and entertained throughout nearly 200 shots that flew by. Mr. Duda is an expert and I was surprised to have access a professional of his talent. His experience is palpable and we were both impressed with his works that have been exhibited in museums and published in books. The post-process went by even faster. Paul had the proofs to me within days and the edits done within a week of the session. He was responsive to any changes, but didn't overdue the retouching, which I appreciate. The photos came out marvelously. My mother, fiancée, and many friends and family loved them! His website is professional and clean.
