If you have a dog insurers don't like, or live in areas other insurers don't like, these are the folks you have to turn to. They know it. As a result they will treat you like you are slime to be washed out to the sewer. Submit a claim? They hire a person who would be fired on the spot for acting like an arrogant fool in any other industry. They make repair demands that can not be satisfied because of weather and other reasons. Considering the demand they made on me follows a claim makes me wonder whether this company looked for a way to back out of providing more coverage. If you have to go with this insurer be ready to be treated like garbage.

I have been a loyal customer for almost 20 years without a single claim. I will reporting this company to the BBB as well as many other reviews and sites. It's completely unacceptable to treat any customer like I was treated. I have only posted a negative review for one other company and that was over 17 years old. That's how bad this company is.

I paid my bill online 3 days before it was due on 11/27/24 and bill was due 11/30.. 5 days later they upped my bill without warning and canceled my house insurance. I then had 3 weeks to pay the 13.60 difference. When I went to pay it online, it said I can only pay 9.60 because online payments don't add the 4 dollar fee. So I could not pay a penny less or a penny more than exactly what was owed. Proving they have shady practices and my bill was paid in full, and they added to the bill without contacting me, and canceled my insurance.

An acquaintance of mine got my wife and I in the door to talk about setting up some long term savings. We had an IRA with another company that wasn't doing well (see my review of the helpless toddlers pushing the buttons over at Stifel), and needed some help. From there the conversation moved to a wildly overkill life insurance policy that really seems like it makes sense at the time, but once you see the actual benefits over time just doesn't. They talked me into selling off a bunch of RSU's to invest in a savings account, and every time I brought up the money the conversation was steered right back to awkwardly weaseling our friends' and families contact info out of us and increasing our already beyond overkill insurance policy. In fairness, when they eventually took over my wife's IRA it did immediately start making gains (because even an insurance cult can manage an IRA better than Stifel). Part 2 is their completely insane mailing tendencies. As soon as the policy went into effect we started getting 2 seemingly identical paper statements in the mail a month that contain absolutely no information of any value. No one on planet earth wants this, and when I reached out I was told that they didn't offer paperless statements through their online portal. My tiny credit union had been paperless already for years like everyone else, so this really made no sense to me. Over time the statements got more and more frequent. How that happens with monthly statements is beyond me but we were getting between 2-5 pieces of mail from Northwestern every other week. My paper shredder was barely keeping up with the volume of mail they were sending us. They eventually did allow for self enrollment (without actually telling anyone) of paperless statements, so obviously I signed up immediately thinking that was the end of it. Whew. Nope. The mail kept coming at the exact same pace. 2 statements. Bi-weekly. Plus whatever promotional and other random paperwork they insisted on throwing at me. I'm not even talking about the postcards or token promo materials that you'd get from a Comcast or something. They were sending me STACKS of paper in these envelopes. Just novellas of totally useless information with my account number and fine print. I reached out again, and told NW that I was on the verge of canceling if they didn't fix it. This conversation went on for weeks with their customer service team telling me everything from I never signed up for paperless statements, to telling me that they're not really statements and that I'm just reading them wrong, to telling me that they're legally obligated to send me all these things. And every time I reached back out to counter their excuse they tried to funnel me back to my agent who has no control whatsoever over the mail presumably to spark another conversation of adding more superfluous life insurance to my policy. If you're at all interested in their business prowess consider that they'd probably still be making money off me if this company wasn't at the forefront of my brain every day of the week while I stared at a giant never-ending stack of mail on my coffee table. How are you that unaware that pyramid-scheming someone into an insurance policy and then reminding them of it twice a week every week forever might be a bad idea? Imagine how irritating you have to be as a company to drive someone to cancel a life insurance policy during a pandemic. Just imagine it.
