It was really awkward in middle school where the teacher made us read pages out loud of the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Seeing kids squirm as they are forced to read racial epitaphs. Even Mark Twain said that he wrote the book for adults. Whatever the reason, hopefully they don't have the kids read the book here. It would make since being the name sake and all. We were living in Loma Linda and was trying to buy a home there, but was coming up empty. We wanted to stay there because of the good schools. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a house in the school district. My wife set her sights to Riverside and I must admit I wasn't too happy about it. I didn't think we would be able to find a house near a school that had high rankings and standards. We were lucky to find new homes being built near this school. (Individualized Education Program) And once they realized that she may need more help she was moved to another school temporarily (Taft Elementary School) to help her even more. Her test scores improved and she was able to return to Mark Twain after one year. She is now attending 6th grade. I have a younger son who also attends the school (3rd grade) and he is having no problems. I don't understand the previous reviewers gripe about homework. It seems to be sufficient to me, especially for elementary school. At this stage your child will probably ask for assistance, and with 2 parents with careers it is a difficult task to ask them after a long day, to also have to deal with a large amount of homework. Not everyone can be a stay at home mom or dad. I will also add that the principal (Debra Ausman-Haskins) has always been nice to my kids. When I reenrolled my daughter here a few days ago, she stopped to say hi to my daughter and to welcome her back. She even walked my daughter to her new class, when we were waiting for someone else to do it. This is my daughters last year here, but we are lucky that her middle school (Frank Augustus Miller Middle School) has high state ranking as well. (API Score - State Rank 9 out of 10.) Mark Twain Elementary School may be named after a guy I don't care for, but as a school it is everything you could want in a school for your kids.

We enrolled him at 3-1/2 yrs old at the pre-school and it was the BEST decision we have ever made for our son. He spent all his elementary years at Immanuel Lutheran School and received a top notch christian education and excellent preparation for Jr high and high school. He is now 14 and a freshman at King High School. In Jr high he was consistently ahead of his class and on the honor roll, and now that he's in high school he is a straight "A" student. The church youth group and the confirmation classes are led by the Director of Christian Education (DCE) named Jean Beck and she is truly one in a million! She has been a huge influence on our son's faith and is by far the most respected, selfless, generous, loving, caring, and fun loving person that I know. We are honored to have her in our lives and love how she is with the youth. Social media is a great tool to keep in touch with family and loved ones and especially when used properly by the youth. Immanuel even has discussion groups and education on using social media properly for the youth so they are always happy, healthy, and safe while using it. We have been utilizing this tutoring center for just over 3 years and I am comfortable enough to say it has been worth every penny!! Nicole was able to recognized my daughter had a learning disability within just a few sessions, but due to her age the school did not test my daughter. This school year my daughter was finally given an IEP which just confirms Nicole is amazing and my daughter is in the best of hands when it comes to her education. As for the tutoring center as a whole, the manager/tutor Mr. Kris is great! If at any time Nicole is running a little behind schedule he has willingly stepped in to begin my daughter's session so we are able to stick to our own schedule. Staff member Asunción Abrego Galeana, known as "Tia," has repeatedly singled out and targeted my daughter, issuing her dress code violations for skirts and shorts that were the same length--or in many cases, longer--than those worn by her peers, who were not penalized. This repeated and unjust scrutiny has left my daughter feeling insecure and confused, questioning what is supposedly "wrong" with her clothing when it clearly meets or exceeds the standards applied to others. This pattern of unfair treatment is deeply concerning and has cast a shadow over her entire experience at Notre Dame. It is disheartening that one individual's actions have created such a hostile and discouraging environment for students. Speak to any student, and you will hear the same story--this behavior is not isolated, and it is damaging to both the school's reputation and the well-being of its students.
