There aren't enough kind words in the dictionary to describe my feelings about Dr. Mike Isseks at The Life Chiropractic Center. He is kind, caring, and a master level spine adjusting ninja! Dr. Mike helped me transform my life. Before June 2019, I was 1.5 years postpartum with my first son. Since his birth, I had extreme lower back pain. It got to the point where I couldn't get out of bed, change my clothes, or pick up my son without excruciating pain. I was miserable. I had been working on healing myself because I was experiencing PTSD at the same from an emergency C-section. I had been working on my trauma for a year and started to invest in getting help to heal my body, mind, and soul. Dr. Mike was an integral part of my healing process because I saw him 3x/week and followed The Life Center's regimented yoga exercises after my adjustments and also at home. I became laser-focused on healing my spine's alignment after the first X-rays, Dr. Mike showed me. My spine was 'effed. I could barely bend from side to side and compared side by side to a healthy spine. There was a lot of work to be done. In less than four months, my spine made a significant recovery. I came to The Life Center Chiropractic in early spring of 2020 on a recommendation from a friend. I was undergoing extreme stress which led to back pain and limited mobility, which was quite debilitating. I had tried chiropractic care in the past for lower back issues and was not impressed by my results. Dr. Mike was very kind and caring and worked with me through 2 series of sessions. I am much more flexible now, and my pain and mobility are very much improved. It appears that my scoliosis has improved as well. He recommends to me other options for care in other areas as well. Dr. Jeremy Brook is the best chiropractor I have ever seen. I've seen a lot of chiropractors, in LA (6 including him) and in CT (4). , I am a current patient of his for over 4 months. His initial examination is thorough with an extensive range of motion test.. Having an x ray taken is a great resource. His book, The Spinechecker's Manifesto, is a must read for those who care about their spine/back health. His approach is a complete mind, body, and spirit method to improve your condition. Great instruction on many exercised to improve certain areas of the body. There are three well appointed exam room and an in house x ray room. When you enter the office, you'll be greeted by friendly staffers. Also, the office has another chiropractor, Dr. Mike, which is great to have since all chiropractor I have seen work alone. The office has the coolest decoration that I have ever seen, chiropractic and yogic. A good size self treatment area with an exercise wall tower and various floor back boards. There are 5 exercise ball chairs where you can do the recommended therapeutic movements. Payment plans can vary depend on your financial situation. The Life Center accepts certain insurances. There can be intro. specials available at certain times, see yelp, a friends and family reference, look in LA Yoga Magazine. Dr. Brook is amazing. I had been experiencing some shoulder pain which was keeping me from my regular weightlifting program. After months of shoulder pain I felt defeated. The floor is padded so you could your seated movements and lay down on the back benders . This review is for moms and about customer service. Ive been a customer here for 4 years, the appointments are quick 1-2 minutes each for a quick crack, so often I would bring my child since its not like an hour-long Accupunture session or something where you definitely wouldn't want to have a child with you, you are in and out in minutes and on with your day. I've even referred people like my husband to be a customer, their policy for moms was always that you could bring you child with you during the ends of shifts when its slower (since kids are "noisy"), and I understood that and complied. although after the pandemic situation I continued supporting their business during their very limited hours the first week, but Jeremy specifically told me I should not bring my 3 year old child anymore since he might touch things. I CONTINUED to try and be understanding, and tried to keep going while leaving my son in the car during my visits, but as the weeks passed and LA started reopening businesses again I assumed they'd go back to original policy that children were allowed towards end of shifts, but I was still being told not to bring children at all. I had to get very upset at them and tell them this policy wasn't fair when all daycares and schools were closed, and what if something happened to my child in the car during an appointment, were they going to be liable for that? Unfortunately THAT is what it took, for them to tell me that they have NOW REVERTED to the original rule of bringing children to the appointment during the end of shifts when its slower. Now I can go again and should be happy, but the fact that I had to actually threaten them for them to come around, just left a bad taste in my mouth. This business must be thriving now despite the pandemic that they can be so picky about what type of customers can come to appointments and when, but its made me feel like I should support an office that might need a few more customers and be willing to be accommodating to moms. Ive had other chiropractors for years who charge the same rate but spend an entire 30 minutes with you instead of 2, and were always open to mothers bringing their children with you. This office really only caters to single young professionals, which I was one when I started going, .... but if you are ever going to turn into a mom in your future, you might want to find another family-friendly office to build a long term relationship with so you can continue going into different stages of your life. read more

Dr. Mike is a miracle worker. About 4 years ago, I tore my ACL and had to get it reconstructed, and ever since then I haven't been able to get over the imbalance in my legs, which then spread itself to my hips and my back and then my shoulder. I developed neurosis about the unevenness of my body, even when I was doing something as simple as sitting or standing. I tried physical therapy, yoga, adjusted my weightlifting, and everything did not work. Years later, I was still functioning at maybe 50% of what I was pre-ACL surgery. I ran into Dr. Mike by chance at a farmer's market near my apartment and decided to take a shot, as my girlfriend had some success with chiropractors in the past. I was skeptical at first, but after working with Dr. Mike over the course of 4 months, he was able to get rid of the big issue which was that my spine was started to get crooked due to an over-reliance on my good knee and thus the good side of my hips. After that, the rest of my body started to realign accordingly. Now I would say I'm functioning at about 80%, which was a huge huge improvement that I was not expecting at all, way above my expectations. Don't get me wrong, you'll still have to be diligent about doing the exercises that Dr. Mike suggests you do on a regular basis. But I followed his instructions to a tee and was consistent about keeping to my schedule, and the results speak for themselves. I would also say that although this place isn't cheap, it's also not expensive and it's well worth the money. Health is invaluable in my opinion. Do yourself a favor if you've had any sort of lingering issues with your knee or back like I did, and see if this works for you. So Happy I found this place. I started seeing Dr. Brook back in February. My treatment consisted of 3x a week for 36 weeks for my neck, lower back and hip issues. The X-Rays speak for themselves how much damage was acquired from the years of weight training and sitting at a computer. Now being the treatment is over I am amazed how great I feel. I can do things for longer durations without experiencing pain like I have in the past. I am now on a maintenance program which is once a week. Over the past 20 years I've had issues with slipped discs and sciatica preventing me from doing basic daily tasks. I got a discount deal for an introduction and X-ray on my neck. I had been having neck pain. The x-ray showed degenerate on 3-4 of my upper neck bones. They were touching and putting pressure on one another according to this place. Of course I wanted to take care of this but I couldn't afford the treatment and was panicking. But I went through my insurance got another X-ray and consulted a Physical Therapist who said my neck was almost perfect. There were no bones touching each other. That means the technician took lousy X-ray images of my neck and wasted my time and the doctors time explaining how terrible my vertebrae was. Turns out I can do physical therapy on my neck and correct my posture without forking out thousands to damage my good neck! I can't believe they would suggest treatment on bad images. I was suffering from terrible sciatica pain down my leg to the point it affected my sleep, my work, even leisure time. I ended up limping a lot. My MRI revealed I had bulging discs in the lower back. I tried everything from Physical therapy, pain meds - nothing helped. I finally met Dr Isseks at a Farmer's market and although I was terrified about my preconceived notions of the pain associated with chiropractics I took a leap of faith (FYI it wasn't painful at all!!). Dr Isseks was very accommodating and helped me understand my issues. He provided a comprehensive plan that would help me manage my pain. He also helped me understand that the process would not be painful. Within a month of the treatment I was literally pain free, I stopped limping, I was sleeping... it was fantastic- so thankful to Dr Isseks who also takes the time to answer my many many questions. I had the great pleasure of being Dr. Eric Pinto's patient. This man has great knowledge of the human body but is well versed in physical training. I have been weightlifting for a time now and after seeing him for a good year or so, and he had help improve my overall strength and helped my form. I would highly recommend coming to this place and for his service. Before meeting him I was in a snowboard accident which had pinch a few of nerves that cause discomfort in my left hand, Dr. Pinto was able to adjust my body so that it would reduce the inflammation and help get rid of all the stinging pain. I have been a lifelong believer in chiropractic care and have several good chiropractors over the years. NO ONE has been as successful in helping to heal my body as Dr. Mike. When I walked into The Life Center on May 2nd of this year, I had been dealing with chronic back and hip pain - the kind of pain that is with you day and night and impedes even getting off the couch or in and out of a car. I'd already been through two episodes of mandatory bed rest, steroid treatments, acupuncture, massage therapy, etc... but within TWO WEEKS of care at the hands of Dr. Mike, my pain had diminished to the point where it was imperceptible. I'd be remiss if I didn't point out Dr. Mike's admonition: everyone heals at a different rate. That said, Dr. Mike's care plan and the exercises prescribed for my own time have had nothing short of a miraculous recovery... I even hiked in Machu Picchu to the Gates of the Sun in late May. No more muscle relaxants, no more Tylenol, no more bed rest... this week I'm to the point where I can resume light exercise, and I am awed by how effective treatment has been. Others have been accurate in their reviews... the assessment of my pain was thorough and the comprehensive care was been beyond effective. Did I mention that I live in Alhambra, CA? The hour to hour and a quarter (three times a week) that it takes me to get back home in traffic around 5:30 p.m. has been worth every minute in the car. When a very dear friend recommended The Life Center, I cringed at the address, knowing that long, painful commutes were going to be a given. I would know now twice the distance if I needed to...and I actually COULD because now my back and hips are well enough to tolerate the commute! I came to The Life Center with a terrible hip pain, I couldn't bend over. I was able to schedule an appointment the same morning I reached Dr. Eric to ask about hours of service. He took x-rays and he checked my back, the next day he gave me the results and explained the best treatment for me, then he did the 1st adjustment in my lower back and neck which were VERY VERY HELPFUL, the results: * Able to walk without pain afterwards * Able to bend and sit * Ringing in my ear gone I want to say that it has only been 4 adjustments so far and I can feel the difference already, it is going to be a long treatment since I have problems with my back which have been going on for years, but I am definitely looking forward for a full recovery. If there was an option for less than a star I would choose it. I went in for a consultation and was not warned about the price of their tests. When all was said and done the tests and X-rays cost me $275.00. I went in a second time to get the results and was told I needed at least 53 adjustments at $55 dollars a pop. I paid for one adjustment, which took 15 minutes. I was hoping for some stretching advice and was given a 4 minute demo and left to figure the rest out. I know the adjustments are just temporary and that what I need is a total life style change. They gave absolutely no advice beyond coming in for a daily adjustment. I was very disappointed. It didn't seem like they had a clear plan for my condition and based on the package plan they presented it was obvious to me that it was more about the money and insurance tricks. $330 later I am now going to an orthopedic. I also requested my X-ray results so I could take them with me and was told I had to wait 2 weeks and would have to pay an additional $29. I dont want a copy, I want the originals and they still charge. I feel I already paid for them and am disgusted that they want more. Clearly they are nickel and diming me. Beware! These guys will play to your insecurities and take as much money as they can. If you have serious back problems go to the UCLA sports injury clinic or find an orthopedic doctor. It's not that I dont believe in the temporary relief chiropractic care provides its just that this place is is not holistic in their approach. Go to an orthopedist first and take their recommendations. I think its important to go to a chiropractor that is also a doctor. They didn't tell me anything I didn't already know about my condition and immediately tried to get me to sign up for their ridiculously costly packages. The one they offered me was over $3000. This is the first time I have ever felt motivated enough to write a yelp review. I can't believe there are not more negative reviews on this place. read more

Since I moved to LA, I wanted to find a good one close to home. I have been to many chiropractors in the past, some were thorough and some spent barely 5 minutes per session. I can't review treament at the life center as I never received one. I came to get initial assessment based on great yelp reviews. After assessment (I think I paid around $139 with yelp deal), I was told to come back the next day for results. He also focused on only my neck, I guess one area at a time is his approach. When I went back to get my results, Dr. Jeremy Brook laid out my treatment plan, which was 3 times a week for 3 months. I was to either agree to the plan so I can get started on the treatment or leave without any treatment. And payment was either lump sum of $1386 up front or 3 installment payment for $561. I wasn't comfortable agreeing to 3 months treatment plan so I left without treament. So two visits and no treatment. It was also awkward to turn down the treatment, felt like I was in a car dealership. You can see pictures of his pricing quote. Pro: has nice equipments for assessment and Dr. Jeremy was thorough with explanations. He seems to be very passionate about his work. Con: pay up front and commit to treatment. Expect to receive no treatment on initial visit AND follow up visit. And one area at a treatment at a time so if you are like me who wants adjustment for neck and lower body, don't know if thats twice the price. Recommendation: please communicate your treatment approach up front with new clients.
