Ashtanga Yoga Studio - In depth instruction

I have been on the hunt for a yoga studio that focuses only on yoga. Ashtanga has a very…read moreinformative website and I was able to find a class and time that fits my schedule. I am not very experienced with yoga but am very excited to learn the practice. When I arrived to the studio, I checked in with Jennifer, who was also the instructor for the class. She gave me a little tour and explained how everything works. She was so friendly, warm, and welcoming. I took an Intro course with her and loved it. She was very descriptive and helpful at every point during the class. There were students in the class at all levels so I felt very comfortable. I can't wait to learn more about yoga and continue my path to health and wellness.

Amazing, top-notch studio quietly tucked away on a street off Jones Avenue. Before you walk in, you…read moresmell the zen (is that sandalwood? patchouli? no idea, but it's subtle, and I like it). The first hall you walk down has walls covered in beautiful local (?) art and then there is the sunlit lobby room with a little greenery-filled kitchen area, the table where you pay, locker rooms to your right and then bathrooms/showers to your left. It is so pretty here, like some kind of rustic, minimalist temple. The level 1 class I took with Andrew was both relaxing and challenging. Most beginners would be comfortable, but at the same time, more advanced yogis have the space to grow. Andrew was very compassionate and takes the time to get to know you and also help you adjust so that you can know your potential. They also have cute yoga bags, tees, and some other clothing for sale. This is a place where you will get some om's in and perhaps a longer savasana than you might be used to. But the meditation time is lovely, and Andrew has some very encouraging words to say about life and reality. You will sweat as well. I will definitely be coming back. Also, they have teacher training here as well.

My experience with the teachers and students was quite nice. However, Racheal the owner of the…read morestudio is quite arrogant. She seems to think that she is super smart but she is not. After I paid for a month of unlimited classes Racheal came in on the day I would have taken my fifth lesson and in front of the class asked me if I was vaccinated. I didn't feel it was an appropriate question yet I told her the truth. I am not vaccinated. That was not something that I was asked when I joined. If unvaccinated folk were not welcome I should have been vetted much more thoroughly. I respect a business's right to determine if a mask is required or whether or not unvaccinated people are welcome. In my opinion each individual should have the right to determine whether or not they wish to be vaccinated. Miss mighty Racheal had the audacity to verbally berate me. She went on to verbally castigate me for not being vaccinated in a global pandemic. She refused to give me a refund and threatened me with the FBI and bragged about what a powerful attorney she is. Racheal does not have a Yoga spirit. She is not a smart business person. This would be a nice place if it were not for her. People of color beware-you may not be welcome here.

I wouldn't consider myself a beginner yoga student necessarily, but I also don't desire a…read morefast-paced "work out". So I was hesitant to try a new studio since it seems every studio in the area is heated, competitive, fast, and not friendly for beginners/ those with injuries/disabilities. Wow, I was blown away by 3rd street!! This place is the real deal. Friendly, knowledgeable instructors. Calm atmosphere. Plenty of pose variations and prop modifications. Instructors teach beyond the poses and explain history of yoga, breathing exercises, etc. I love the quirky old building, super quaint. There's a reason this place has been in business for 20 years! Can't wait to go back.

Lovely spacious studio with natural light coming in through the windows. I accidentally walked into…read morethe wrong (the meditation?) studio (they have separate doors), but the instructor was so gracious and kind about it and directed me to the second door. Becca, my instructor, was so comfortable to be with, and the hour was really wonderful. I would recommend the yoga experience to anyone. I know when I have connected with the yoga experience because afterwards I feel a thousand times more relaxed, stretched, at peace than I was before class (and before this class I was particularly needing some help accessing my conscious self). YogaLife gets 5 Zen Stars from me. Also, Becca's studio offers yoga teacher training as well (10 weekends and about one weekend a month I believe for your 200 hours) and you can join at any weekend since they are separate sessions, so if you are interested in that, I would definitely recommend coming to check out a regular class to see what you think.

I was a frequent yoga class attendee until a fall dislocated my shoulder. I had several months of…read morerehabilitation and was very nervous to get back into my yoga routine for fear of slippage. I moved to OKC very recently and figured now is as good a time as any to give it a go (new place, new attitude, right?). I was specifically looking for a studio that had a gentle class so I could ease myself back in. (I had done a bit at home at this point, but felt a gentle class would be the best way to get back into the groove for my body). I signed up for the Gentle Yoga class at YogaLife Studio in Norman with Kaye. It was perfect and just what I needed. While the gentle class definitely caters to an older generation, it worked wonders for what I needed. Kaye also offered plenty of modifications so that if I felt I wanted a bit "more" I was able to get right into it without missing a beat. She guides you through just perfectly without it feeling like a competition. After all, your yoga practice should be your own.. not the person next to or across from you! The studio is small, but nice and clean - and they are opening a new one right next door soon so they can accommodate more people. It's about a 40 minute ride for me, but it's worth it and I'll be continuing my yoga practice there, while I still live at the south end of town.
