It's an okay gym, but there's nothing even close to "luxury" about it. You'd genuinely get better service at the YMCA. The women's sauna is constantly broken or smells like sewage, and it's been that way long enough that it's clearly not a priority to fix. They also completely erased a huge part of the club's community when they removed the basketball courts. That space brought people together, and replacing it with indoor pickleball--without asking members--says everything about how decisions are made here. Most of the events are geared toward the senior population, so calling this place an "athletic country club" feels misleading. And the last‑minute changes to heated classes, suddenly moving them outdoors when it's 60 degrees and cloudy, make no sense. It feels like they're sacrificing quality just to squeeze in more bodies. It was heartbreaking to lose the cycle classes as that was the only community I had been able to build there. When the gym is crowded, it's barely usable. I've seen the saunas so packed that people are standing shoulder to shoulder. It's uncomfortable and defeats the purpose entirely. And while most of the staff are friendly, it's hard not to notice that some employees show up smelling like weed, which doesn't exactly match the "premium" image they're trying to sell. read more

CASH GRAB! Was a member for over 12+ years. They have constant turnover and are poorly managed. They literally took out basketball in the basketball gym and converted to pickleball. Now those new courts are empty 90% of the time due to the fees associated. Corporate constantly raises rates, and charges for amenities that were free for 10+ years! My Family membership went from $173 to $233 the last few years due to yearly raises. Cycling - gone, Basketball- gone, weight machines -heavily reduced. Additional fees to use pool and so many more. Everything is behind an additional pay wall with fee based amenities. The YMCA is better managed that this facility. read more

Lifetime (Birmingham) is an upscale gym, spa and recreation facility offering free and paid fitness classes, state of the art gym equipment, indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, steam room and whirlpool spa. They have childcare and even a cafe with healthy offerings (one inside and one by the outdoor pool for summer days). They also offer towels, lockers, shampoo, razors, etc, , personal training, small group training and educational programs. I have participated and taken advantage of all of these services and amenities, at some point. It's the nicest health and wellness facility in Business, and prices are reflective of this fact. It's worth every penny if you are able to take advantage of offerings. Unfortunately, the sauna and steam room are often closed, in need of repair and classes require advanced reservations and fill up quickly. read more

Lifetime was a great gym and somewhere I enjoyed going until Mindy took over. Mindy decided to remove the basketball courtand instead, replace them with pickleball courts. (Anything to make America less athletic amirite?) There was no survey sent out, no discussion from management that this would happen. They then had the audacity to call it an upgrade. Throughout my time, lifetime has consistently raised rates, so if you do decide to join you won't be paying the same price and the amenities you were promised may quickly leave. Mindy has made a mockery of lifetime. Additionally, we tried writing google reviews and lifetime will delete any negative review that they have on there. In short, mindy is a coward and has ruined a great gym. I highly recommend people not joining here. read more

I've been a member at Life Time Vestavia for 2 years and unfortunately my experience has gone downhill. One of the biggest disappointments is management's decision specifically by the manager, Mindy to remove the basketball courts. Many members utilize the gym for kids to play and an adult group plays multiple times a week in the basketball gym. On top of that, the cleanliness of the basketball courts is consistently unacceptable. The floors are dirty for long periods of time, and despite repeatedly asking staff for them to be cleaned, nothing was done. I personally had to clean the courts myself every time before playing, which is not something anyone should have to do--especially when paying over $100 per month for a premium gym membership. For a facility that markets itself as high-end, the lack of responsiveness and upkeep is frustrating and disappointing. I expect much better standards for the price being charged. read more

Stop only catering to the young and old but forget about the ones in between. I was a member for 8+ years. When they stopped having a cycle studio and removed all of the cycle classes, I had no reason to stay. I am 61, with back and knee issues. The only classes that I could take were cycle and aqua. And I'm not gonna pay someone $100 to swim in a pool. It is obvious that they are not listening to the members and/or looking to be set above the other gyms. I really hated to leave.......but in the end, I cancelled my membership and will be hoping the Hoover Y or 24e in Pelham. Both of these gyms have a cycle studio and a pool. Imagine getting rid of the basketball courts to add more pickleball courts when there are already pickleball courts. This is the south. The weather is nice most of the year. I'm a longtime member of Lifetime and there are many great things about this gym (especially the classes and instructors). However, management's recent decision to remove the basketball courts with zero input from membership is unacceptable. The courts are highly utilized, and part of having an elite, full-service gym experience. Note that they already offer pickleball. So, there is room for both basketball and pickleball. People joined this gym and paid for this gym expecting basketball. What's next ... taking aways the pools, classes, etc.? This decision clearly shows they will take away any service or offering (even if it's highly enjoyed and utilized by the members) without seeking input from the paying members. In response to management's decision, I emailed Mindy weeks ago and still have not received a response. This lack of acknowledgement or response speaks volumes regarding the management and leadership culture at the Vestavia Lifetime location. read more

I have been to several lifetimes and this one is very disappointing. The facilities are beautiful but the management is not respectful of staff members. Communication here is horrible. I have sent several emails requesting response which they promise within 24 hours and don't deliver on. Was charged for full month and simultaneously denied access. When politely requested a refund or ability to use the membership we paid for they said a manager was not there who could approve the request. This is stealing. I have contacted Lifetime directly by calling the main number, the general managers number and left messages. I have also sent texts to specific departments and ignored every time. I joined this gym in hopes of continuing my fitness journey. After doing research and asking around, this gym seemed like the best option but unfortunately, it was not. I joined the gym in August '23 and decided to cancel by the end of September '23 due to the lack of communication. It is incredibly hard to get in contact with anyone here and when asking to speak to a manager, there is never one there and I'm never given a call back. I tried to cancel (the first time) via the app and was unsuccessful. I tried to cancel again in November via email and by phone, this attempt was also unsuccessful. I tried to cancel for a third time via the app, over the phone, and again via the app as I was on the phone with the front desk. This process has been ongoing and I have paid for 3 months for a membership that I do not want. I've tried to handle this with management but even today when I called, the manager was in a meeting. THE STAFF IS AWFUL! I had an extremely disappointing experience at this Lifetime Gym. I'm a positive person, give people the benefit of the doubt but after several negative experiences; 13 of my family/friends and I have decided to cancel our lifetime memberships due to the staff. The gym itself is great, lots of machines, classes amenities and clean! But the experience the staff provided made us all leave. I will only speak for our personal experience. 3 staff members specifically Jenna treated my husband and me horribly. Targeting us unfairly, lying and being utterly unhelpful. After talking with the manager Chelsea (who is very kind) about my concerns she offered a credit to the following month. The credit never arrived so when I called in- they answered the phone saying "oooh I know you guys" it made me feel like the staff had been "gossiping" about us? She then made me feel like a cheap person just trying to get free things. Saying "I don't see why Chelsea would credit you that. That's wilddd" even though I never asked for a credit. They set an expectation and didn't meet it. Lifetime management if you'd like that call is recorded go listen to it because it's "wildddd" how we were treated. Facilities are great, probably the best in Birmingham . But called the number several times and never got an answer. Left voicemails and never got a call back. Tennis staff is similar, constantly was asked to put my name and number on the list for updates on constantly shifting clinic times and never got an update. I understand the trying to centralize that stuff to the app, but if you're creating a list of names and numbers for contact info then why not use it? I had the most amazing and phenomenal time at this gym, which is truly truly a gem. There was plenty of parking, which was a nice addition for such a large place. Upon my arrival with a friend, and as a guest I was greeted in a professional and courteous manner. We headed toward the back where the lockers are and I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were no locks needed because they were provided since they were attached to the locker itself. I was delighted to find that they had several machines which allowed me to run, and climb getting that leg work in and there was enough space with an area for me to jump rope, do squats and leg lifts. But the best thing of all was the saunas. They were such a good time and a pleasure to be in. I thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed myself. I LOVE everything about this place. They have all the classes you want with amazing instructors. I went from 140 pounds to 128 and I'm a 21 BMI with 20% body fat. I owe it all to Lifetime!!! They helped me reach my goals and they were always encouraging and motivating. My favorite class has to be Gluteus Maximus. It's a strengthening class with focus on your backside. I'm a clean eater and have been for years so I didn't have to change my diet at all. It was all working out and taking the classes at Lifetime. I can't wait to take the kids to the pool. That slide looks like so much fun. Awesome place to achieve your goals and have fun doing it. * Before anyone asks, I had just gotten a spray tan lol I'm not this tan in March* I thought it was warming up and going to stay that way but obviously not!! *To Brittany at Lifetime I may have put in the hard work but y'all were there every step of the way to motivate and keep me in line lol. I literally just wrote a review on Publix and stated how I should really check this gym out since I see it so many times... because I go to Publix like it's a second home. lol Anywho, this gym in beautiful and has tons of equipment. They stay packed as their parking lot is almost always full. The membership fees are a little high for my liking. I'd suggest that you ensure you are completely dedicated to going to the gym 5 times a week if not every single day to justify the value. That might not be the case for current members, but that is just my 2 cents. read more

Allow me to be blunt and say that while there is a plethora of equipment at the facility, the equipment consists of crap. I got a day pass here and tried 3 different elliptical machines, all of which had defects. No matter how many times I adjusted the intensity it would revert back to base, and the TV would not load certain channels or were disconnected in entirety. I have been to plenty of gyms and have never struggled so arduously to exercise in my entire life. Maybe a smarter person could have figured out the elliptical but why does one need a PhD to use one? The highlight was the iPod connection on the elliptical. Yes--this machine is so old such that iPods were in vogue when it was manufactured. For those of you youthful enough to have never used an iPod--we're looking at something that was cool 15 years ago. Lifetime is supposed to offer a premium workout experience for its price point and my experience today suggests the price is definitely not right. read more

Very expensive membership for a pretty crowded gym. It's pretty nice but it's over crowded. The sales people can be very pushy when you sign up. The location isn't in a good spot for trying to go after work you have to fight a lot of traffic. If you live off of 280 or work off of it I may recommend, other than that you should join the Y same equipment more locations. read more

This review is for the pool in particular. My kids take swimming lessons here. At first glance, the size of this place can be overwhelming. I'm not sure I've ever seen a facility this large. As you pull up, you can see not only the main facility, but a huge climbing wall and the large water slides for the outdoor pool. The folks at the front desk have always been very friendly. They are good about pointing you in the right direction, so you don't get lost in the fitness castle. The indoor pool is among the nicest I've seen. It's much more calm than the outdoor facility, obviously. There is a lap pool for folks trying to stay in shape and a large area designated for lessons. The teachers have been great with the kids. I don't remember lessons being a bunch of fun when I was a kid, but my little ones sure do look forward to going to their's at Life Time. read more

Had a men's haircut at 12:30 on September 17th. I checked in at 12:30 sharp and was told to have a seat. After waiting for 12 minutes and not being told that my stylist was running late I decided to leave and get back to the office. If your running behind by more than 10 minutes you should let your client know at check in. Not have them just sit there without any idea how long you are running behind. Lies and miscommunication. Good facility, poor staff training. I was never told my son's swim lessons were dependent on my membership. I needed to cancel my gym membership and they said the swim lessons cannot continue and blamed it on staff miscommunication. Also, swim lessons are once a week unless there is a holiday so 2 months in a row a week was skipped. What am I paying for? The family locker room is extremely cold when you come from the heated pool area and there are no changing tables, only a knee high stone/marble bench. Who wants to put their infant on cold stone for a diaper change? I used the towels they provide but the baby is screaming bloody murder because of the cold air. read more

went to gym with my 12 yo son Saturday morning to shoot basketba and the basketball courts were covered up mostly of African America men in their late teens early twenties, by their Appearances most were not members . left and came back at 4:30 and even more African American guys taking up the courts. Mentioned it to management and he acknowledge the problem and confirmed multiple complaints from other parents but seemed very timid the correct it. I mentioned I pay $200/month to come here and can't even get on courts because of all the guys out there who aren't members and don't pay a cent toward his salary or the facility. our family are founding members but if this situation isn't corrected immediately we will cancel our membership and suggest the same to others. read more

I joined LifeTime at this location as a Birmingham resident and have visited several locations traveling around the country. This is my favorite! The facilities are similar at each as are the classes and equipment offered. The difference is the staff! They are so attentive, helpful and knowledgeable, especially Christopher Shunnarah in guest services. I couldn't ask for anything more from an exercise and wellness facility!! read more

LifeTime is truly a luxury gym that in some ways feels like a resort! The facility is always very clean, well stocked, and so much exercise equipment so you'll never have to wait! The spa is fabulous. The cafe is super convenient. My only objections are that at times the customer service of the staff is hit or miss; Some people are attentive and helpful and others are rude at times. The pool should serve adult beverages. The classes are GREAT and there is a lot of variety, but there are no classes between the hours of 12:00 and 4:00 - I assume this is not a popular timeframe but think they should a offer a couple of the popular classes during these times. Overall, you get a lot of bang for your buck at LifeTime. You get access to indoor/outdoor pool, full service resort style locker rooms, a lot of exercise equipment, and great classes. I really enjoyed the classes here. Sometimes the classes were a bit crowded though. One negative aspect was my introductory session with a personal trainer that was free. I thought she was going to show me around the gym, which is what I wanted. However, when I asked her how to use the equipment she said that I had to pay for that on a separate session. And her introductory session was to basically sell me more classes with a private instructor or small group classes. So basically they just wanted more money. This gym has a complete program for all levels of experience. There is a wide variety of group fitness classes to attend, from yoga to spin classes. If you are considering a gym and looking for solid group fitness community, this is a must try. New, fancy facilities but otherwise no substance. Customer service is terrible. It can be difficult to simply talk to someone. Many employees I've encountered are rude, inept, or both. It has taken 3 weeks and I have still not been able to schedule swim lessons for instance. Also, be prepared to wait, and wait, if you do need help. If you're into the family friendly atmosphere and diverse class offerings, join the Y. Their pool and swim program are better. I'm writing this review after cutting my workout short because wifi simply won't work. This isn't my first time having trouble with it. I was connected with full bars, yet Internet was not working. When I switched over to broadband, it worked fine, so it wasn't a reception issue with my phone. I thought about maybe talking to someone, but I doubt anyone here at 7:30 in the morning would know how to fix my technical problems.
