This was the best meal I have had in the entire country and I have traveled Italy extensively. They only have a couple of tables, the brothers, along with mama and Bridget, deliver an incredible meal, incredible experience, and the way the patrons feel after the experience cannot be matched. What the hell if we ordered Caesar salad, then meatballs, then gnocchi, then seafood with linguine, then the local catch of the day which today was amberjack, then ribeye, then dessert. I'm not alone in my prayer of this restaurant, my wife and my three children are unanimous that this was the absolute best meal that they have had in Italy. I strongly recommend this restaurant, but I would mention that you need to get there early because they do not take reservations. Located just steps from the Pantheon in Piazza della Rotonda, this historic coffee bar has been a Roman institution since 1946 and is especially known for its coffee, which has helped make it one of the city's most famous cafés. The line was pretty long when we arrived, but it moved surprisingly quickly. You can enjoy your coffee and pastries inside while standing at the counter, or, if you're lucky, grab one of the few seats available inside. There's also outdoor seating, but keep in mind that sitting outside comes with a separate--and if I remember correctly, significantly higher--service charge. I'll be honest--I'm pretty sure I ordered the wrong thing. I ended up with what was essentially a frosty coffee ice cream, which is not what I was going for, lol. I was supposed to order the Granita di caffè con panna, which is their signature. It's a coffee granita--essentially finely shaved/frozen coffee--topped with whipped cream. Instead of whipped cream, I accidentally told my Italian nephew I wanted the coffee with ice cream, whoops. I also ordered a maritozzo, which I was absolutely on a mission to try while in Rome. The maritozzo is a traditional Roman sweet bun filled generously with whipped cream, and it did not disappoint. I was in a bit of a rush, so I didn't have time to enjoy my maritozzo there. I packed it up and ate it later that evening, and it was still delicious. I've also essentially given up coffee completely, so I only had a few bites and sips of my coffee ice cream, but what I tried was really good. The menu is fairly large and varied, and it can feel a little overwhelming when you're standing at the counter with a line behind you. I'd recommend taking a look at the menu ahead of time if you can so you have an idea of what you want before you get up to order. Overall, I'd definitely recommend stopping by. Tazza d'Oro is an institution, the location is hard to beat, and there's something fun about experiencing one of Rome's longtime coffee traditions--even if you accidentally order the wrong thing like I did!

There is ample covered outdoor seating, a large indoor dining room, and like many long-standing restaurants in this area, Zi' Anna employs professional wait staff, who see their role as your guide to the experience, and take that role seriously. That said, you won't be forgotten wherever you sit, and your server is the best resource for the perfect wine to pair with any of the delicious offerings on their relatively concise menu. You are in a fishing port, and you are there for expertly-prepared seafood. Start with the antipasto di mare, alici marinate or insalata di polpo. The gamberetti e rucola are also sublime. A pasta dish is a must here, and you can't go wrong with most - all of them prepared to a creamy level of refinement that in my opinion is taken for granted by locals. Staples: linguine agli scampi, risotto alla pescatora, schiaffoni alla Cardinale or with zucchini and gamberi. Portions are traditionally moderate, so you can have/share an antipasto, pasta dish and a second course. The fritto misto di mare is a classic, grigliata mista di pesce prepared to perfection, grilled baby calamari are perfectly tender. We live in NYC so perhaps our pricing expectations are skewed, but $10-12 for a plate of pasta this good is a bargain by us. Generally we are 5-7 people at dinner for a cost of under 200 euros. €30 pp average, including wine, for a meal at this level is hard to beat. We've been out to many meals in Formia and Zi' Anna is a go-to.
