Where do I begin? The Lidl in St. Charles plays an important role in the community. It sits in a convenient location next to a large luxury apartment complex, making it an easy stop for many residents. While Lidl doesn't carry the same variety of products as some of the larger grocery chains, they generally do a solid job providing the core essentials... and sometimes a bit more. Unfortunately, my experience with this location has been overshadowed by ongoing concerns about cleanliness and store upkeep. The first thing I noticed was the trash receptacle outside the store overflowing. That alone raised a red flag. Inside, the restroom was in extremely poor condition... honestly, it looked well below what I would expect from a grocery store that sells fresh food. Situations like this make it feel as though basic oversight is missing. Whether at the store, district, or regional level, someone should be paying closer attention to these issues. Cleanliness matters, especially in a place where people are buying food. When the environment appears unsanitary, it naturally discourages customers from shopping there. My final frustration was the bakery area. Items were picked over, some were on the floor, and others looked crushed or handled to the point where they were no longer appealing. It gave the impression that the section hadn't been monitored or maintained throughout the day. Staff interactions have also been inconsistent. The employees I encountered seemed disengaged, with little effort to acknowledge customers or offer assistance. I had hoped these issues would improve over time. Lidl is a new experience for me. I would shop here again. It's no Wegman's but that's not the market niche it's trying to appeal to either. If you don't want to pay an annual membership fee for discount grocery shopping or the size of your family is to small to make that appealing, this is a viable alternative to save some dough. Just like the fee based big box grocery stores, you aren't going to find 100% of what you need on your weekly grocery list. I've given up on the idea of 1-stop grocery shopping long ago. I do that only when I don't have enough time or energy to make multiple stops. It's the same-same here. Download the myLidl app before going and join to see the added discounts available. I did this in the store using my cellular data plan. It's suppose to have WiFi but I got a "temporarily unavailable" message when I tried to connect. The cashier said the ApplePay was not working properly so I paid cash. There are self check out lines but no one else was using them so I figured something was up with that too. (I dunno.) Therefore, I got in a regular check check out line. Yes, they have some kinks to work out. That's understood now. I won't be so understanding a month from now. There are brand names and no brand name stuff. I was pleasantly surprised to find Daves Killer organic bread-by Good Seed and Herr potato chips. There is also Lidl brand potato chips. I bought a bag to try them. There were lots of meat brand I did't recognize. I have to return when I have more time to read those labels so I get an idea where my food is coming from. The cashiers will not bag your groceries. (My cashier was very helpful though.) You do that. There are free paper bags at the end of the checkout line, cashier #20 told me. (Do they really go by numbers Lidl?) You can pay for plastic multiple use bags (as low as 10 cents). I had my bag. Carry yours. Save a tree. I spent $13.95. Emulating Kohls, I got a $5 off a minimum of $25 coupon valid for sometime in the future at checkout to reel me back in. LOL. read more

Since I was in the area, I decided to do ALL of my grocery shopping in SoMD. So happy that I did, this location was virtually empty on a Saturday! Say what now what? Exactly!! I didn't have to wait in a line, I didn't have to worry about crowding, as I am used to in other locations. Additionally, this store was stocked well, and I was able to find everything that I needed (plus stuff that I didn't). I also scored some discounted items that I have NEVER seen at any other Lidl. The staff were friendly and engaging, and the check out process was seamless. If I'm back in the area, I will return, as this location brought me just a bit of peace of mind. read more

The location is not convenient for me (I can get to an Aldi's much easier and they have better prices, only a much more limited selection). But I am often enticed by a sale price at Lidl. The frustrating thing is you have to remember to enter your phone number to trigger the app membership or you don't get the sale price. I think I have done this wrong more often than I've done it right, so to make that drive and realize I didn't get the sale price is super aggravating. Or to realize at the store that I didn't get the sale price, making an exchange is horribly time consuming as a manager has to be tracked down. The other bummer is if a sale is 10 for $10, you have to buy a quantity of 10 to get the sale price. read more

I have been to the Waldorf store twice, seeking items that were advertised in their flyer. Today was the first day of the 'sale' but neither the sand box nor the bounce house were available. Someone said they were sold out at 8:30 this morning, half hour after the store opened? I love the store. It's always clean and the displays are beautiful. My one dislike is I am a cash shopper. The self checkout only takes cards and there is no express checkout with the regular lanes. I had 2 items today and was behind someone with like 50. I said something to a manager who was behind me. He was indifferent and said "we don't have it". Just saying I will probably not come in the store for a few items because of this. read more

My experience visiting the Waldorf, MD store was unpleasant because I noticed evidence of mice. Attached are some pictures of the mice droppings that I saw in the area that has oatmeal. After I saw the mice droppings I notified a store employee and I walked around the store and noticed some freezers out of order but other than that the store appeared ok. However, I was disgusted by the mice droppings because it looked like it was under the top of the oatmeal (check out the pictures) so I left the store. read more

This morning I attended the Grand Opening of the new Waldorf MD location and it was fun and festive. I'm not new to Lidl but it was well worth visiting the newest Maryland Location!!! read more

This is the latest German-based discount grocery store in the area. I guess since Shoppers Food Warehouse is closing, this will be a good replacement. The prices are comparable to Aldi. It has more name brand items, but it also has their Lidl brand. They have foods from Europe: Irish butter, German pastries, Italian pastas, etc. There is also an in-house bakery. Like Aldi, there is a section of clothing and other goods like housewares. I definitely will be back read more

BE CAREFUL when shopping here!! MANY, MANY ITEMS have one price on the shelf and then another higher price rings at the register! At self check out, the attendant is "not able to change price" and it's an ordeal to get someone higher up to come help!! About 2 weeks after they open my wife and I purchase some meats from Lidl well priced angus and grass fed steaks and Filet!! Super excited throw them in the freezer for a day we can Indulge. The day we decide to cook them they smell like someone died. So we tossed out all the meat. Today I stop buy and give them another chance got a 2 pack of black angus Filet mignon to throw on the grill because it's beautiful out so why not grill and open that vacuum seal pack that says to sell by 3/20/2020 and it also smelled like someone croaked in the packaging. I'm only 31 but I've been cooking for a while and know steak is not supposed to smell like that not risking my health or my families health. I advise everyone not to purchase any meat from them. They are gonna get someone sick. read more
