Kelly's has served me as my local off-licence for years, and I love this place. The staff are…read morefantastic, the selection is very good, and they offer some great deals. The guys generally pick a selection of wines to put on special in the centre of the floor, generally around the €10 mark, and they change frequently: for example, during the summer, you're likely to find some fruity barbecue wines on offer. Advice is available if, like me, you don't know much about your wines, and they're more than happy to steer you towards value-for-money rather than try to upsell. As a beer man myself, Kelly's is miles better than the other local off-licence. They stock all the usual suspects in an open fridge, but they also have an excellent selection of quality imports such as Flensburger, Baltika, Spaten, etc. They stock some good Irish brews as well, and regularly have five for €10 on some of the good European beers. Better selection, better staff, and good deals. What more could you want? While you could probably find better bargains on mass-produced plonk in Tesco's or similar, these guys have a great selection and know their stuff. As a small local business, they do an outstanding job serving their customers, too. And if you need it, they can sort out your party needs with glass hire, too.

I wanted to add to my previous review after another visit -- and this time I've included a few…read morephotos to properly show the space and selection. Whelehans Wines continues to stand out as one of the most impressive wine shops in Dublin. The level of care in how everything is presented -- from the layout of the store to the range itself -- is immediately noticeable. What really sets it apart is the knowledge. On this visit, I was again guided towards wines I wouldn't have chosen myself, with clear, thoughtful explanations around the regions, producers, and what would pair well with what I had planned. It's not just a place to buy wine, it's somewhere you actually learn. The tasting element adds another layer entirely. Being able to experience wines before purchasing changes the whole process and makes it far more considered and enjoyable. It's rare to find a wine shop that balances depth, approachability, and genuine expertise this well. Easily one of the best wine shops in Dublin if you're looking for something beyond the ordinary.

And what a transformation! I first thought from the design that it's a rather posh place but no, they are very down to earth. It's not often that you can get a good glass of wine for €3.50 (ok, it goes slowly upwards from here). The prices for food are on the average Dublin price side - but with very good quality. We arrived around 3pm and the cafe was busy but still had a table for us. It took a bit to get the order in but after that no further hickups and actually lovely staff. And the food! I had a Caprese Salad with buffalo mozarella and thick tomato slices. My friend went for their signature salad and we both where more than happy. I had a glas of South African Chenin Blanc and ended up buying a bottle of it later in the attached shop. We both felt for another treat afterwards so I went for a scone - not often you get one with clotted cream! - and my friend had a passion fruit muffin. Again we were both very happy. I love the concept of having a leisurely lunch in a cafe that is attached to a very well stocked shop that has wines from around the world but also a very decent selection of craft beer. So you can even taste some of their wines or beers with your food. But they also offer to taste their wines before you buy them. Not sure if that goes for all of them. I was a bit in heaven in the shop. Not often that I have seen such a very good selection and variety from around the world in Ireland before I think. I'll definitely will be back. The price for the wines ranged from 9.95 to at least 50.00 - I didn't check all the prices.

Interior looked very applauding and cosy. With small antique things around. I didn't figure out, if they serve full dishes or if they have menu even.. I saw only chalk board saying sandwich and soup todays special... As for sandwich, I got chicken and salad burger. I was like "since when a burger became a sandwich?". Anyway, food was delicious. What I loved, was what tea they served. I didn't say anything apart from a word "tea" when ordered my "burgwich". What I've got was a leaf loose tea in a pot, not some "Indian road dust" AKA Barry's or Lyons tea. No offence Irish, but them teas are a byproduct when making decent tea, let's just say left overs. Basically what I'm saying - quality tea there.

Going to the shop is a bit of an event for me, I love this sort of place where I can rummage and come home with a new and strange meal.

From Belfast Blonde to Dungarven to Brooklyn to San Francisco to Munich and more in between. For such a tiny shop they have a great selection of beer and it was a treat to do a tasting session with the parentals and not feel like we were drinking fizzy chemicals just cause it was cheap. Recommended this place by Emily C who lives 5 mins around the corner and told they had a great selection of beers I was initially thinking they'd maybe have the odd good craft beer but no no no, upon arrival I was taken into a world of fine fine beers from all over the world - and lots of it! There's a giant fridge in the back with all sorts of American rarities, European amazingness, lots of British craft and even Irish (which I thought was good to try seeing as I was in town - not too bad, needs a few more hops...). The truth is I could have been here all day deciding if I wasn't with my chums and off for dinner so after a quick 5 min chat with the super helpful/extremely knowledgable guy in the back went on my way with my tasty wares! I imagine there's some great wine on offer too if you look for this sort of thing but I was fully in blinkers on mode and went straight for the beer. Next time I'm in town I'll be paying a return visit.
