Enjoying a store bought cigar in the lounge.

A Holy Grail location for cigar enthusiasts. Yes, the prices are high, but the staff is amazing. A wonderful and beautifully decorated shop with an amazing selection of fine Cubans and select other premiums. I'm told it has a wide and excellent selection of pipe tobacco's also, but that's not my world. The invitation to enjoy and sample a store bought cigar upstairs is just the icing on the cake! Will return!

Walking out now. My husband wanted cigars since he smoked what he brought from the states. We walk in neither of these clerks when acknowledged our presence. Terrible service. Guess they did not want our money. Avoid!!!

I have a few vices in life, cigars being one of them. I absolutely adore them, so much so that I have to ration myself to a certain amount each month. I love the smell, taste, the relaxing feeling it evokes. Drinking a coffee or red wine whilst smoking a cigar is one of the small life luxuries that I have. So all that self-indulgent pap aside, I need good cigars and here is where I come. In my opinion the best selection in Ireland. Skilled staff, I tend to get stick with Montecristo and they have several types under this brand. They also have very impressive gift ideas if you want to buy me something ;)

Dublin's emerging Chappy scenesters will be delighted with the very gentlemanly selection of pipes, fine tobaccos and other refined smoking accessories for the gentry. I'm not a smoker, and I don't know any who could fully appreciate the fine cigars and cigarillos on offer here (shame, that). But I love the rich and urbane nature of the shop's stock, and the suit-and-tie salesmen behind the counters inside. Break out the tweed blazers with leather patches and drop in for a look (and whiff) of some of Dublin's finest tobacco and accessories.

Enjoying a Ramon Allones RE UK purchased earlier in the day at Fox.

Another visit to the beautiful city of Dublin so shopping at JJ Fox is a must. The service is always top notch and their selection of Habanos is generally interesting. This time I picked up a few very nicely aged Bolivars along with a handful of Regional Edicions to sample. If you have any interest in smoking a well maintained Habanos or shopping for high quality smoking accessories then visit this small but elegant shop.

And since she had to buzz me in, it isn't as if I could have been ignored! The shop itself is a well staged if crowded affair, and the staffer appologised out of hand for the disoriented jumble "We've just got stock in today," she smiled and winced. I didn't say it, but I've been in shops much messier who thing toeing a bag of rice out of the way counts for cleaning up. Not to worry young lady, I didn't mind at all. Of course, your shop would be crowded too if you were carrying all the favourite foods of South Africans hungry in Dublin! There's traditional art, team shirts and creative crafts on sale here, but the real connection comes when browsing the food shelves. Back there is a haven of sweets and instant mixes, snacks, jars and cereals plus case after case of sweet pop and juice. Down on the floor a galvanised tin tub held an array of mix-n-match snacks that, had I not been holding firm to my NYR I would have jumped right into.

These guys are a serious godsend. They stock two of my favourite things from SA - kudu biltong and Four Cousins Rose. If you hear biltong, don't jump straight to the 'jerky' thing, because this stuff's the real deal. And kudu is possibly the nicest meat you'll ever taste (though my friend contests that that honour may, in fact, lie with impala...but it's all antelope anyway so that's just getting pedantic). Gold star there. But even better is the fact that they stock Four Cousins, which is nigh on impossible to get outside of SA. And it's not ridiculously expensive. A litre of that and you're sorted! Happy days!

From Belfast Blonde to Dungarven to Brooklyn to San Francisco to Munich and more in between. For such a tiny shop they have a great selection of beer and it was a treat to do a tasting session with the parentals and not feel like we were drinking fizzy chemicals just cause it was cheap. Recommended this place by Emily C who lives 5 mins around the corner and told they had a great selection of beers I was initially thinking they'd maybe have the odd good craft beer but no no no, upon arrival I was taken into a world of fine fine beers from all over the world - and lots of it! There's a giant fridge in the back with all sorts of American rarities, European amazingness, lots of British craft and even Irish (which I thought was good to try seeing as I was in town - not too bad, needs a few more hops...). The truth is I could have been here all day deciding if I wasn't with my chums and off for dinner so after a quick 5 min chat with the super helpful/extremely knowledgable guy in the back went on my way with my tasty wares! I imagine there's some great wine on offer too if you look for this sort of thing but I was fully in blinkers on mode and went straight for the beer. Next time I'm in town I'll be paying a return visit.

I'm always on the look out for a good Portuguese wine (and Port wine) section and this place clearly has a few carefully selected gems, was very happy with what I found there. We've been very happy with the Douro wines we've picked up here, as well as some excellent LBV and Tawny Ports, from the better but more obscure vineyards, which is always refreshing. The staff are very friendly and so helpful, they really know their stuff and the best part about it is there's nothing pretentious about this place at all! It's official - I have found the source of all my future wine-related purchases. The Corkscrew is…read morethe BEST wine stockist I have ventured into thus far in my Dublin meanderings. Why, you ask? Well, firstly because they have the most incredible range of wine from all over the world. They even stock my favourite label from Western Australia, Vasse Felix, which I've not found ANYWHERE else in Ireland. Secondly, their staff are wonderful. They are not the haughty, pretentious types you might expect to find in such an establishment. Oh no, they take the time to talk to every customer who enters the store, ask about their wine preferences, suggest future purchases for the expansion of the customer's palate, and discuss wines previously purchased and liked/disliked. Chris, a lovely guy from the UK, spoke to me while I was in store, and while I'm by no means a wine connoisseur, or a bulk-buyer, he still took the time out to find out about the kind of vino I like to drink. From there he formed a kind of 'career trajectory' for my wine tastes, based on what I drink now and what I should be trying. I found him incredibly helpful and not at all dismissive of my 'bargain bin' level of wine knowledge. While I was in the store I heard the other sales assistant speaking to a woman who'd had a less than amicable experience with her last purchase. They discussed the reasons for her not enjoying that particular bottle (these things happen, everyone has different tastes), and he made suggestions on wines that might provide her with an experience more to her liking. The fact that she came back to the store and trusted these guys to advise her on her next purchase really says something about the level of service provided here. So you see, at The Corkscrew, wine, as life, is about the journey, not the destination, it's about branching out and trying something new and it's not about sticking to the tried and true (although, in fairness to these guys, they have tried nearly every bottle in store). If you want a wine merchant who will know you by name, and who in less than 10 minutes will be able to diagnose your particular drinking condition and provide you with the remedy, make The Corkscrew your off-licence of choice.
