We visited The Decent Cigar Emporium Mon. 25.07.2022. This shop was recommended by Ian the bartender at The Lombard where we were staying. This was a mission request by my US friend to get him some Cuban cigars. A brief point to note. The US still has product embargos from the 1960s on the communist government of Cuba. How foolish is that policy after 60+ years. Neat location on the second floor of shops in the Grafton Street shopping district. As we entered the fragrant shop we were greeted by a young man who looked as if he stepped out of some H.G. Wells' Steampunk world. But he was very knowledgeable and helpful by asking questions to determine our choices. Sorry that I lost the card with your name. So mission expertly accomplished. This was a great experience going to this place to buy cigars. The owner was very helpful. He didn't push me towards the more expensive Cubans which I really liked instead he suggested a Cuban brand I never heard of (flying pig) which he highly recommended. I took his advice and bought several of them... next time I'm in Dublin this will be definitely one of my stops for cigars. It kills me to have to drop this place down to a 1 star but after finding out the flying pigs are not Cubans there drew estate cigars just shows I got hustled... that's fine they just lost a customer... read more

Well, I suppose calling it the Bloody great Cigar Emporium would be a bit brash but make no mistake, the Decent Cigar Emporium is really underselling itself when it comes to the naming of the place! In the old days (pre smoking ban) you could wander in here, choose a suitable cigar (Partagás Serie D No. 4 in my case, you know, on the off chance anyone is putting together Qs Christmas list while they read) and relax in the back of the shop puffing away. Sadly those days are gone. They offer a small but nice selection of humidors and cater to pretty much every budget. The dude who runs the shop is hugely knowledgeable and gives everyone time to choose the right cigar(s). My only gripe these days is that more often than not I'm pushing a buggy around the streets of Dublin so cant really make it up the stairs to get to the shop! plus... I probably wouldn't get parent of the year awards if I was seen smoking a big Cuban cigar while pushing my wee son around! read more

So the Decent Cigar Emporium, is the emporium decent or is it the cigars that are decent? well, i suppose its both! decent name for a shop too! :-) anyway, whatever you are looking for in the way of cigars you are bound to find in here this shop offers sixty types of cigar that are all individually hand rolled in one of the famous cigar making countries such as Honduras, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Nicaragua and of course Cuba. As Quentin pointed out you used to be able to sit in the shop and sample the fine tastes of any of these cigars but nowadays the smoking ban has put an end to it so you can only go as far as sipping a Cuban coffee while sniffing your cigar. If you ever want to feel like you are doing something slightly illegal, but want to avoid committing an actual crime, head to the Cigar Emporium on Grafton Street. It is done out like Sherlock Holmes' private smoking room - all leather and dark wood and ambience - and the staff members talk in the soothing, lowered tones of people coaxing you through a difficult decision. They were very good at helping me choose a couple of cigars to give as a gift - I had gone in with no clue other than the vague notion that Cubans were good. Apparently, this is a relative judgement. My old roommate was a big fan of pipe smoking and I hopped into the Decent Cigar Emporium with him a while back to pick up a bit of pipe tobacco as he was running low. Seeing as neither of us really new anything about tobacco the guy who worked here gave us the run down on all the different types and his own personal favourites. He gave us a whiff of each and my roommate got some amazing stuff that quite literally smelled like rum & raisin ice cream. This place is great. All my Dad ever wants for gifts is good cigars. So Christmas. Birthday. Father's Day. As a result I am in here at least 3 times a year. Sometimes in for myself if I feel like having a little Cuban treat! There's a lovely atmosphere in here and the staff just make the experience. They are knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. Always full of suggestions without being in any way pushy. If they aren't crazy busy they will always offer you a complimentary expresso which is a great touch. The owner Guy is a super dude that knowssssss his cigars. He travels to cuba on an annual basis. bastard... while your there make sure to ask for cuban expresso shot. I love the name Decent Cigar Emporium and it is a whole lot more than decent. After climbing the stairs to the second floor it is a very nice cigar shop and very welcoming. The guys that work here are very friendly and fairly knowledgable about their inventory. The selection is pretty good with some aged and limited Habanos mixed in. As soon as I walked in I was offered a very good cafe Cubano which was a nice touch. The prices were very fair compared to their Dublin competitiion(Fox on Grafton and Peterson's on Nassau). The selections of the day were a couple of the excellent little El Rey del Mundo Choix de L'Epoque UK RE's and their recommended custom, pigtailed dalias sized cigar. The only thing that could have made the visit better would be if you were still allowed to smoke cigars in their small but comfortable lounge area. This along with JJ Fox on Grafton are both highly recommended if you are a cigar smoker and in the great city of Dublin! read more

Their espressos are the best and I have asked for seconds while (deliberately) taking my time to choose the perfect cigar but I have also come in here just to get a latte to take away. This is my favourite cigar shop in Dublin, possibly all of Ireland. They have a brilliant selection and the staff is very knowledgeable. In terms of customer service: some staff are arrogant, obnoxious (for example he will throw the products on the counter if he doesn't like your head). The owner was really nice to recommend the "cigar of the week." For 7.50 eur the Nicaraguan was dried out, tasting like hay. Definitely not good value and definitely not worth a recommendation. Beware if your a tourist!!! Visited this joint last week as I was in Dublin for a Wedding. I was best man so I decided to purchase some cigars for the wedding party. After seeing an array of cigars I picked out some Cohiba Silgo N°1 and paid €99. A little while up the road my GF asked what excatly had bought and it dawned on us that I had been overcharged and should have paid €68 and my reciept had no details of what I had bought just €99 on it. Couldnt return back to the shop as I was due to go to a rehersal, but knew that the next day the reception was in a hotel on St Stephens Green 2 minutes away. Returned next day spoke to a different shop assistant who called the manager. The manager asked who sold them to me and when I described him the manager shouted to the shop assistan across the shop. He and the shop assistant in question made a joke of it. My money was refunded but without an apology. Sadly for the 'Decent' Cigar Emporium I may not sound local but am not totally foreign. PS. Cigars were covered in bloom, so to boot there storage looks impressive but isnt very good. read more
