I like the Costa chain and this branch in Mullingar is pretty spacious and bright with lots of comfortable seating and large windows. It's located in the Fairgreen shopping centre and is open pretty late (7 or 8pm). Also, you can make use of the free wifi from the shopping centre. The coffee is the same as any other Costa; very large coffee sizes, not too strong and generally more milky, so it's great for those that prefer mild or diluted coffee as opposed to a strong short blend. I find that they're flat whites are very milky and mild compared to specialist barista houses. However, they do great Cortados and the Cappuccinos are pretty good too.
There is a large selection of sweet treats such as brownies, muffins, croissants, pastries etc. as well as savoury items such as sandwiches, porridge, yoghurt and ciabatta. The prices are cheaper than Starbucks (€2.45 for a small Americano, €2.90 for most other drinks). I find the coffee tastes a lot better as I'm more of a Costa person (not a fan of Starbucks), but in terms of volume and atmosphere, the two chains are comparable. The service is good, and they have skinny and soya milk alternatives available for no extra charge.
Overall: Spacious, bright, free wifi, large coffee sizes and easy access. read more
