My mom's first time ever going to a Lidl was at this location in East Meadow, Long Island! I don't know about the other locations in New York, but their Lidl's just don't compare to the ones we have in Virginia...lol The East Meadow is a decent size store, plenty of parking in the large lot. Inside, the store seems to be clean and somewhat organized. Prices are a tad bit higher than in Virginia, but that's to be expected. The look on my mom's face when she saw how affordable the flour is at Lidl stores; she loves to bake. We promptly bought 8 packs of flour and some other baking essentials. Got a couple of decent sized seedless watermelons for only $5 each. Checking out was the only hiccup. There were only two registers open and the lines were moving pretty slow. As per the other reviewers, it seems like this is a recurring issue and hasn't been addressed by the staff either. read more

There has been zero improvement with this store since it opened. There are still never more than two registers open at any time of day and no self checkout. You will still wait in line for 20 minutes for two items. It's ridiculous. The Food and prices might be fine, but what's your time worth? I would avoid buying meats here. It is often not stored correctly that it is discolored, the packs are bloating, and smell gross. The freezers are often left open. Unless i see them freshly stocking, i won't buy. The bakery here is great. You can get fresh breads and pastries. Fruits and veggies can be a hit or miss with freshness. Sometimes the prices and quailty are great, other times, they are beaten to hell and poor quality. Milk, various dairy items, cheeses, and eggs are a great value here, especially for big families. Those items are like wholesale prices without having to have a paid store membership. It isn't necessarily "cheap"/value shopping here though, you have to really know the standard prices because some items are more expensive here, like name brand sodas, juices, chips...honestly most branded items here tend to be more expensive than target or a supermarket. During seasonal times they do have amazing plants and flowers for great prices! As far as service goes, there's only like 3 people I've encountered that are really nice. Others are rude, and really don't care. You will get bulldozed if you're in their path. No excuse me's. No hesitation. One time an old lady fell outside in their parking lot. She was covered in blood. Two of the "managers" came out, after probably 15mins, of us regular patrons panicking trying to help her in the rain, and not one of them asked if she was ok. It was very un-empathetic, straight to business... "do you have your ID?"...very stone cold and they were on the phone with their higher ups. This woman was covered in blood, with deep gashes on both her hands, and bloody face and mouth. Her front teeth had broken from the fall. The woman was 94, and she said she couldn't afford an ambulance if 911 was called and requested fire medics instead. And the woman "manager" was so rude with her tone of "well if she wants fire department, she needs to call herself...I'm not doing that" and turned her back...the delivery was so unbelievably harsh...me and another woman had to look up the east meadow fire department number to call ourselves. Very poor customer care. Tone and delivery matters. I understand there are protocols, but have alittle empathy. It was a super traumatic situation already, no need to add to it with your rudeness. read more

The prices are great. Limited brand name goods but the store brands are very similar and absolutely worth the purchase. We like to joke about the convenience of being able to buy milk, cheese, and chainsaws in the same store. I go here first for my staples and to the larger stores when I need something they don't carry. I can see that they watch the check out lines and open new registers as the need arises. This morning I went to the grocery store along with many others in preparation of the snow storm. The store was busy and the cashiers were working hard. I had a decent amount of items in my cart, one being a Lidl seltzer. As I was waiting in line I left the seltzer in the cart and proceeded to place every other item on the checkout belt and began arranging my cart with my bags to expedite the bagging process in consideration of the cashier and others behind me to avoid holding them up. As I arrived in front of the cashier , before I even had a chance to tell her about the seltzer in my cart which she saw, she walked around to my cart not saying a word and gestured for me to lift my bags (which I complied) to make sure I was not hiding anything. It was extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing as I shop here weekly. I said to the cashier I am not trying to steal from you guys and she proceeded to scan my items extremely fast and slamming them on to the belt. The whole situation was uncomfortable. The question, why did I not put my seltzer on the belt? Because every time I go there which again is weekly I am practically yelled at to not put the seltzer on the belt and just to provide the cashier with the item # on the seltzer. So from my experience of being a loyal customer and knowing the process, I left my seltzer in the cart which left me to have my cart rudely inspected without a word. I get it, you have a job to do and if you wanted to check my cart, talk, kindly ask me to lift my bag and explain you just wanted to see if there is anything else I may have forgot in my cart, but don't make your loyal customers feel like criminals. As I am on the topic of customer service here are a couple other mentions: today before I had this encounter, I witnessed a man washing the floor with a machine and nearly ran into a woman leaving her to lift her foot and grab on to the shelving to stop from falling. Last week, I was there and a man was stocking the produce. As he was doing this he was cursing, throwing the vegetables into their spots and reaching directly in-front of an elderly woman who had stopped picking out her vegetables to get out of his way. This is just totally unacceptable behavior and treatment for people who are most likely loyal customers. Your store has great prices and some really great items which is why many shop here but people should not be treated this way while grocery shopping. I would leave a lower review if it was based of today alone but I do not want to discredit the hard work of the other kind people I have encountered there. read more

Different shopping experience from what I'm used to, but not necessarily in a bad way. On the plus side, Lidl is kept clean with nice wide aisles. I perused their website before entering to reduce wandering time and found what I wanted quickly. Shopping carts were new and abundant so I didn't have to stalk a departing shopper to score one. Low prices and the produce I got was very fresh. Minuses: Lidl doesn't carry all of the familiar brands, and some advertised items were out of stock at 10:00 AM on a weekday morning. There was only one register open but when a line formed they did open another one - something the former tenant Best Market didn't do. I saw some interesting flavored hummus and veggie pizzas that I'll try next trip. While I wouldn't do all of my shopping at Lidl my first experience there was fairly pleasant and productive so I'm happy they're in my nabe. read more

I am glad that Lidl came to East Meadow and very excited that they will be coming to Garden City Park soon where they will be taking over the old Waldbaums. Lidl is not a new concept as it looks a lot like Aldi. This is a big-bright-spacious store with wide isles and plenty to choose from. We've been here a couple of times now and managed to buy a fair amount of groceries. Remember... This is not a King Kullen or Stop and Shop. It is not the place to come for all your name brand items. This is how they're different. I have tried a couple of the both frozen and refrigerated fish and both were tasty and fresh. They move a lot of product here. They have a very comprehensive supply of meat here too. There are no butchers, fish counters or bakeries here. All the food is packaged in refrigerators and freezers. Most brands are house brands, hence the ability to save some money on your shopping bills. Bakery items are all packaged and in the glass enclosed cabinets. When we were there the shelves were packed and other shelves were being restocked. Nothing fancy here... They cut the box and put it on a shelf. Again, just another way to save us some money on our grocery bills. They also have a fair amount of housewares here. Hey, you never know when you're going need one of these products. I have posted a fair amount of pictures that really show a little of everything. They will definitely become one of my "Sunday Shopping' spots. Remember to bring your own bags, they are not supplied by Lidl. I do like the idea that there is an employee stationed outside with sanitizer to wipe down your cart. I think they'll do well as people become accustomed to their methodology and I definitely recommend this store. read more

Great new grocery store added to this neighborhood. Opening day was yesterday and the lines were very long. They gave out nice reusable canvas shopping bags. LIDL is similar to Alda and Trade Joe's with their own brand of items and limited commercial brands. Prices of Lidl brand items are low so you get more for your money. Weekend specials are great bargain and big savings. Parking lot is big. The entrance could have been designed bigger. read more

Great selection of food. Prices are fair but TBH I've found the same products for lower prices elsewhere. Store is pretty spacious. But the service...Oh No.... We had a manufacturer's coupon from a loaf of bread we were purchasing. At the checkout we handed it to the cashier and with a rude tone she replied with, "you need the Lidl app to use this". First of all it's a manufacturer coupon, not a Lidl coupon, so why do we need the app? She repeated the same sentence three times and a line was forming so I decided to let it go and leave. As I finished packing my items, I noticed she held onto the coupon without offering it back even though again it's NOT a Lidl coupon! She also couldn't be bothered to share my total with me and instead made me look at the screen. I hate to be "that" person, however, there is a way of explaining things to customers and if this is indeed the policy then Lidl should be ashamed of themselves. I could easily take that coupon to any store that sells that item and use it, if you know, the cashier had bothered to give it back. I've been curious about this grocery store for quite some time now. Best Market sold the Lidl brand of organic ketchup which is where I first found and tried their product. The ketchup is excellent. But there were no Lidl stores nearby until this lovely one opened up! With much fanfare in the local community, the Lidl grand opening was a success. There were large signs leading the way as you approached the shopping strip complex. In addition signs were posted by the exits and entry ways, including those in the back entrances where the cargo is unloaded. There was a line to enter. As you entered the doorway sanitizing wipes were available to clean your cart. The immediate section you encounter are the fruits and deli area. Fruits were well stock and fresh. They even had some signs indicating from which local farm they were grown. It feels good to support local farmers. The bakery bread was behind plastic doors easily accessible but away from immediate contamination. Their naan is affordable and tastes comparable to the stonefire brand! The supermarket is a good size and there is plenty of parking. I picked up some frozen macarons, pulled pork in puff pastry, and frozen peas. This supermarket carries home good items such as storage shelves, slippers, various men and women's clothing, and dry erase boards to name a few things. These items are in a section toward the frozen foods aisle and the layout reminds me of the Aldi supermarkets. Here you won't find your typical brands like you do at other chain supermarkets, but that's okay with me. It is refreshing to see other brands being offered here and to try new products. The seafood area tells you exactly where the item came from. I picked up some Salmon that came from the Faroe islands. Lidl also has an app that you can download for free. When you sign up, you van receive a coupon for $5 off a purchase of $30 or more. Their new circulars are released on Wednesdays, making the middle of the week your prime day to visit. Overall I was happy with my purchase and would visit again. It's a chain German supermarket that is slowly making its mark in the US. Round 2. Fight! Okay, no fighting. Perhaps shopping makes more sense. That's exactly what my mother and I did at this brand spankin' new East Meadow Lidl back at the beginning of August. For me, this was only my second time (hence the start of the review) setting foot in a Lidl (the first coming a couple months earlier out in Center Moriches). For mi madre, it was her maiden voyage into this originally German-based store. We had both visited Aldi (a very similar setup to Lidl) so there was some expectation between us regardless of past visits/experiences. My expectations were perhaps, a little high as the Center Moriches location had brought much intrigue and interest after purchasing plenty of Lidl-based products that I had deemed either "great" or "good" in quality. You see, Lidl predominately focuses on its own brand of goods and products which can be awesome, and can also be problematic. Looking for a certain sauce, yogurt, fabric softener (etc.) brand? Chances are Lidl doesn't carry it. But they probably have something very similar which could suffice...for those not picky. My mother found this to be her dilemma as she looked for a few name brand products that she couldn't find, though she was impressed at some of the produce prices. An interesting note was that she decided to bring her Best Market shopping list to see how well it matched up (as Best was bought out by Lidl and all Bests will continue to be morphed into Lidl markets). She did well, but there were things that just couldn't be obtained here. Back to me and my own second experience. As stated, I do enjoy Lidl for its eclectic ability to create similar yet also unique products (at good prices). I found a few cool items (crispy jalapeños for salads, garlic stuffed olives, cucumber cilantro dressing) as well as a huge score on a nicely-priced bag of shishito peppers (which can be hard to come by). Having said that, some of the original luster of my first experience at Lidl wore off. Despite the store being larger in size, it didn't feel like they were carrying anything more. In fact, they were missing some items I noticed at Center Moriches (like their own beer!) which didn't seem to even have a spot. Many of the purchases I had previously made were in stock, but nothing I had originally tried (even the "great" items) seemed worth buying, at least in that moment. A lot of other items looked appetizing, but I did begin to notice more of a problem with variety. Beyond that, the crowds and line confusion in having people stand down aisles in front of products didn't entirely help the feel or flow of the place and your comfort in shopping, especially in a Covid world. Plus now knowing it's only a matter of time before Lidl consumes Best Market of New Hyde Park, I'm not as excited as I once was for this transition (even though it sounds like the Lidl location might have moved spots to Waldbaums). Overall, this East Meadow Lidl shouldn't be viewed as a negative. There's plenty of cool/different products and decent prices to warrant a trip. Though you probably won't find the need to visit weekly (maybe once every month or so?) as the uniqueness will only take them so far. Trader Joe's easily beats out a place like Lidl in originality and Best Market's produce and selection tops Lidl's. So perhaps there is a quarrel on our hands as Lidl may need to fight its way to sustainability on this lengthy island. We shall see... read more

First of all, this does not come up when you go to check in. Very odd. So I came home to see if I could add it and even when I searched for Lidl stores on Yelp, it did not surface. With a bit more effort, I did eventually find this spot. This was my second visit to the new East Meadow Lidl, taking the place of the Best Market that I had relied on for fruits and vegetables at a fair price. I was not a fan of my first visit to the Plainview Lidl and swore not to visit again. Until this store came to town and I remembered the gorgeous yellow roses that were a steal at 7.99 and lasted for something like 10 days. Our first visit last week was with similar disappointment..lots of unfamiliar non name brand items which my daughter likened to "shopping at the dollar store" and I could not disagree. We left with some nice roses and when I needed new ones this morning, I decided to head back and I am glad that I did. I tired to have an open mind about the unfamiliar products and non grocery items like a chain saw for $99.99 placed next to some paper plates and toothpaste. I took time to look at the writing on the products and turn the boxes and bags over to learn that the items were largely from Europe or Canada..I did not come across one item that was made in China. When I visited Holland some 7 years ago, I found these European brands interesting and accepted that they wouldn't have the typical US big brand names in their stores and their products were top notch, so why should't these be as well ?. So today, with this new consideration, I meandered around the store and arrived home with 2 bags filled with some great new items..and gorgeous roses for 7.99....but not a chainsaw ! read more

Could be great with some changes. First, it's like a slightly upscale Aldi so if you're familiar with that style of primarily no-brand branding, you'll feel at home here. Some things are cheap, produce is fresh, and overall it's not a bad place to conduct a full weekly grocery shop. The aisles are wide, the store was relatively tidy, and it was well stocked. That said, the following areas could use work: Every worker we came into contact with except for the sanitizer girl outside hated life and it showed. The stockers blocked aisles and didn't care, didn't talk, and didn't make eye contact. The cashiers (both the trainer and trainee) at our register didn't bother greeting us, didn't respond to MY initiated greeting or MY thank you and basically only spoke to each other. Nice. Way to make us feel welcome. The checkout line process is a mess. The register number lights are barely visible so you have no idea what line is even open and then, you have no idea where to stand. EVERY AISLE had a line of people in it with nobody directing traffic to half as many open registers, understandably leading to some huffing and puffing. The sanitizer girl outside, though nice, is kind of pointless. I guess the point of a miniscule squirt of sanitizer on a paper towel is to wipe the cart but really it would be more effective to just do one's hands on the way out of the store. Still, I'd return in the early morning to see how it is with fewer people. read more

Biggest complaint is no self service check out register. That's a true head scratcher. You wait online for 15 minutes for two items. Many people I know. Avoid this place because of it, when I do stand on the line, others that I don't know say same thing. the vegetables and the fruit seem to go bad quicker than that other stores. They also removed the deli, which was a big moneymaker for the previous store. I know they sell cold cuts here at Lidl, but they're not good and are thick cut. read more

I don't like doing this, but I must be honest. All of those wonderful French snacks in their opening week sold out and aren't coming back. Same with the excellent Irish butter. Likewise, the European beers. The most prominent sign in the store is "While supplies last." The needlessly long wait to check out reminded me of the old Best store on this spot. They swept some areas and left the pile of debris in the aisle. Not only visually dirty it also smelled bad. My review is based solely on the awful cashier I encountered tonight on register #6. I stopped here for the first time. I was content walking around. Prices are pretty good here. Some things don't have a name but..... so i put my stuff on the belt and as she rings, she's throwing my stuff. Her disposition was terrible. She rings everything up but doesn't say the price. I got the price by looking at the register. Transaction done... she walks away. I get the whole no bag thing but say something. Instead she just walks away. When my BF ask about a bag, she says in a nasty manner, "you didn't ask" "it's 5 cent". When I tell her about her throwing my stuff , she rambles about her being alone, it's late , blah blah blah. I was excited to see a new store coming to my town, and I will definitely be going to this store once in a while but it won't completely replace my trips to other stores. A lot of their products they sell are their brand only, and some are really unique and specialized for the season. I definitely plan on trying the apple pie hummus and snickerdoodle hummus!! The store is organized well and almost reminds me of a smaller version of Costco since the center aisles are dedicated to things you wouldn't find at a traditional grocery store, like sweatpants, for example. Also, unlike a price club, everything is the traditional and average size so there's no need to buy 10 pounds of mozzarella, but that does sound good right about now. I digress...If you're a vegetarian, I noticed a wide variety of products that would be perfect for you! Oh, and I realized I missed sharing about the pumpkin pie hummus...yes please!! Check your receipts before you leave the store. First time I was overcharged by 5 items of one item I actually purchased. This time I was charged the regular price for cat litter, $5.49. Do these cashiers not pay attention? Last week the cat litter went down to $2.99, this time it was $3.99 which is fine. I don't care about price changes, but for the love of god, charge me the CORRECT PRICE. The cashier was in lane 3, I was there around 6:00 checking out. She disappeared so I couldn't even go back to her. I went to the manager and he took care of me. The cashier that refunded me, apologized. But seriously, some of the cashiers need to get their act together. Not all. Some. I learned my lesson, I check my receipt before I walk out that door. My sister told me about this place, she said I have to try their coffee pods, so I looked them up online and discovered I could get groceries delivered to my door- THAT DAY!! They charge a $10 delivery fee which I thought was totally worth it to not have to shop for an hour wearing a mask! (They also had different membership options, which I just might do in the future) but after my first order, they gave me a free pass for my second, which I used today. Their service is on point. They actually text you while shopping to let you know if they're out of something and if you want a substitution! Today my driver was running late and he texted me to let me know, which I thought was totally awesome. They have very few name brand things, but every single thing I've gotten so far, has been just as good, if not better than the name brand. We got fresh bakery bread, dairy, ground beef, pork roast, cold cuts, produce, laundry detergent, & paper goods. But we especially love their coffee pods. We've tried just about every one so far, and they exceed even some of the pricier brands! Plus you definitely can't beat the prices! I still can't believe how much stuff I got for 100 bucks! Yesterday, I went to Lidl in East Meadow and had a very unpleasant encounter with the store manager, Scott, who was working a cash register. As many of you will recognize the check out scenario in Lidl supermarkets is often chaotic and disorganized. I was on a line for registers 1 and 2 and when my turn came to check out, the cashier (Scott, the manager) told me that he was taking the people from lines 3 and 4. Whe, I objected he told me that I had cut in line and that I had to go to the back of the line for 3 and 4. I could not belienve that he was being this rude and the people in lines 3 and 4 starting yelling at me and one actually threatened me verbally. This manager made no attempt to either quiet the situation down or to listen to my explanation that I had been waiting in line. He actually started talking to the people who had come from lines 3 and 4 and he amping up the situation by calling out about how some "people" will do anything to get their way. I did not cut the line. I am a doctor and would simply not do that. The manager's response was totally inappropriate. When I confronted him about his behavior he looked at me and said I could do whatever I wanted and then he turned his back on me/ I will be reaching out to LIdl's managment because I am sure they would want to know how a manager treats the customers that use their stores. read more

Great store with the best prices on dairy. I come here for dairy, produce, bakery items, some health/beauty items, and pantry staples including canned goods and condiments/sauces. The aisles are wide and easy to shop. They have interesting ethnic foods that rotate out routinely. For instance, if it's German week, there's a section of real food from Germany. I've seen Italian week, UK week, Greek week, etc. We've tried interesting foods this way. read more

With low prices, it's easy to look past some major issues but didn't realize how bad this store was run after visiting the location in Merrick, which is light years better. The store is dirty (garbage on the floor) and quality and selection of produce is abysmal...good luck finding a staple fruit or vegetable because there is a good chance it is either not available or the only ones that are are rotting. Just left the store to make a second stop because they did not have half and half!? But they did have about 30 boxes of flavored creamers. The woman behind me was upset because they didn't have cinnamon. How is this possible? Overall, this location seems to be bringing down the brand and vision of Lidl, which is a shame. read more

Today was my first time in the store. Different from traditional supermarkets but I found it to be interesting. My only complaint is the sound system. Background music is ok to have, but when you have to raise your voice to have a conversation with the person next to you then the music is too loud. Shopping should be a pleasant thing. I really don't know what all the hype is about. Went in there the other day and was completely underwhelmed. About 15% of the shelves were empty. There's no butcher or seafood counter that I could see, everything was prepackaged and in coolers. There's no self checkout. Yes the aisles are wider then they used to be but at the expense of selection of products to purchase. Not an abundance of variety. And as a matter of fact I saw a few products I've seen at Dollar Tree. Thank goodness they were also a dollar here! As far as I'm concerned a real step down from the Best Yet that used to be there. LIDL is a German international discount supermarket chain (like ALDI). Their concept is not overwhelming you with tons of brands but finding basic products filling up your shopping cart for a fraction of what you pay in other places. You'll find when available: frozen cooked twin lobsters, frozen oysters, frozen octopus, waffles from Liege, daily fresh bakery, fresh local veggies, and so many other products from Europe usually super-hyper expensive in other places. They stopped selling dry dog food ray or any dog food although they sell the same in cat food.there prices went up and they stopped selling lidl coca cola bottles. I always get sick from there cold cuts which are bad and there chicken salad along with my husband too . read more

The store has items that are great value. I thought I was lucky to come across dozen of extra large eggs for only 73 cents each. I bought 2 packages along with other items. But when I returned home, I realized the eggs were missing. Thinking back. I watched the cashier put the eggs next to the cash register rather than on the belt after scanning them. Maybe he didnt want the other items to crush the eggs. And in the end, he never put them on the belt while I placed my items in the the cart. read more

First visit for her, second for me. Fresh meats included Lamb Chops that were delicious. Tried their clusters of oats and honey cereal and their four fruits fruit spread imported from Germany. Prices for milk, eggs and butter were very reasonable. Seasonal products also fun to try. read more
