I was standing there ogling these Kung Pao Meatballs at the hot buffet & a nearby employee chimed in that they were really good. Turns out it wasn't just any employe, it was Chef Anthony and these are HIS recipe! I told him how I am dying to try them but I wish they had them cold so I could warm them up later, as I was going to dinner shortly and didn't want to eat them hot right away. Without hesitation, he offered to grab us some that he had cold in the back ! Unmatched customer service and so absolutely kind. I am still shaking as I write this. Today, I was physically/forcefully attacked in the Stew Leonard's parking lot by one of their security guards. He cornered me and loudly accused me of stealing in front of everyone. After putting me through that terrifying and humiliating ordeal, the store manager finally stepped in only to casually say "it was a mistake" and send me on my way. A "mistake" does not cover the trauma of being targeted. I know deep down that the color of my skin had everything to do with why I was profiled, harassed, and put in danger today. You cannot just falsely accuse and put hands on innocent people because of your biases and then expect a brushed-off apology to make it okay. I am greatly affected by this and mentally exhausted. As of penning this to you, my dear reader, I have set foot in 89 grocery stores this calendar year to see which establishment has the best rotisserie chicken. An unintended side effect of this journey is seeing which grocery store has the best overall shopping experience and vibe, regardless of chicken. Stew Leonards is UNQUESTIONABLY my pound for pound #1 grocery store in the country, with Market Basket and Buc-ee's (if you count it as a grocery store) being a distant 2 and 3. I knew I was in good hands when I approached the entrance and saw huge text etched in a stone at the front of the store that read "Our Policy: Rule #1 The customer is always right! Rule #2 If the customer is ever wrong, read rule #1!" Legendary. Stew Leonard's is like if a prime Chuck-E-Cheese and Disneyland had a baby (great genetics). It's a true immersive shopping experience. As you wander through the one-way isle throughout the store, you will encounter singing and dancing animatronic robots, a banana on a skateboard that starts singing if you hit the "press here" button, a plush Goofy toy doing constant "flips for customers" as it hangs from the ceiling, an "Ashton Hall's Favorite Water" sign above the Saratoga water cases, etc. All I could think about was how I would LOVE to bring my 1 year old nephew here. There is just so much soul in Stew Leonard's. Along the path, there are stands for products including but not limited to hot buttered lobster rolls, fresh squeeze orange juice, fresh made apple cider donuts, fresh live lobsters, freshly made mozzarella, smash burgers, pizza, tacos, sushi, and a candy shop. It's like walking through a state fair. The rotisserie chicken, sadly, ended up being middywap. A whole tissi ran $7.99 and it ended up landing at 7.7/10, which currently ranks it 40th out of 79 grocery store birds I've tried, but it's way bigger than the bird. I have been a customer of the East Meadow store since it opened and have watched the quality and selection deteriorate considerably over the years. My visit today put it over the top. The management is very poor. Couldn't get a banana that was not mushy, prepared salmon was raw inside and I threw it away, very few prepared salads. Nothing looks appetizing or inviting. Cannot wait for Uncle Giuseppe to open on Hempstead Turnpike so I can say goodbye to Stew forever. read more

Bought 2 Filet Mignons from butcher dept. They were terrible so chewy we threw them out. Just kept chewing, not tender at all. Had previously bought these and they were delicious. They started out as a dairy store in Connecticut but they've branched out to Westchester County and Long Island. We walk along one aisle passing fresh produce, baked goods, meats, fish, candy, flowers, drinks & dairy products. I love their fat-free, sugar free pistachio, chocolate, & butter pecan yogurt flying saucers. Love all the samples, we eat our way through the store. There are all kinds of interactive displays which amuse all. Other Stew's have a petting zoo, bbq, and garden centers as well. At holiday time they have spectacular gift baskets & tins. Place is horrible wouldn't recommend to anyone, I heard they accept expired meat even when they know it is bad... Also the front end manager Donna who thinks customers have super powers like you should know that the register with no one or light on will be open soon. Management please be more forceful with people bringing in their non service dogs on a leash walking through the store and urinating on your displays. I love dogs and if you want to put a small one in your cart or your stroller OK I guess but this is the second time I have seen dogs lifting their leg and peeing on food displays and the owners of the dogs could care less. Just like the other Stew Leonard's except this one seems just a tad bit narrower in the aisles and in length. The butcher counter is friendly and will often help answer any questions you may have. The meats are a good quality and I often come here to get a good roast for the holidays or a big family dinner. Everything that you'll find at the other Stew's can be found here. The great soups, bakery & prepared foods, they are all here. Lately I've been particularly fond of the grilled shrimp from the prepared section. Just like the other Stew Leonard's they close up pretty quickly and even though store hours may state 10pm, about an hour before closing, the manned stations start shutting down. And I do mean quickly which I do understand the reasons to do so even if that may be the only bone I have to pick. I sure do remember my first job days closing up shop and wanting to get out as soon as possible. So get here early and avoid the late evening visits where the selection/counter service may be a little thin. read more

I remember being so thrilled to hear Stew Leonard's was coming to my neighborhood several years back. It is still a treat whenever I shop here. It is a maze walking through the store, kinda like Ikea. Great selection of baked goods, fresh meats, fish and cheese. There is also ready made foods available for takeout. I usually come during the week but there were samples available on this Saturday which was cool. I came to take advantage of the lobster roll sale this weekend. They set up 2 kiosks, one for the lobster roll and another one for hamburgers outside the market. They take payment at the kiosk. I was expecting the lobster roll to be filled over the top like in the NYT Cooking video but it wasn't. Maybe that is just a Yonkers location thing? In any case, the lobster roll was excellent! One can watch dancing singing bovines, joyous avocados and other fun creatures while perusing the aisles. Helps make the shopping experience breeze by. While the store's layout is bit of a maze, there are shortcuts enabling customers to get to the checkout counters quickly without visiting every aisle. Prices aren't low, but one can score nice bargains by checking out their app or online circulars. Lately I've been purchasing more of Stew's cooked items like pistachio crusted salmon, chicken breast asada and chicken pot pie for easy heatup at home. Fresh salad bowls are very good as well. The only way that my review is going to mean a dam is next time you are at Stew Leonard's in Yonkers, NY is to look at the customers and then look at the workers. the customers are all rich white folk, and the workers are all black and Spanish. why is that? Well stews prices are ridiculously high and the only ones that can afford their prices are the people who have money and don't care how much they spend at the supermarket. stew gets their products from the same places everyone else gets there produce meat dairy etc. from but they charge double the price. If you need a place to bring your toddlers and little children, this is the place to come. The store is laid out differently than most supermarkets. Down each aisle you'll find an animated character where u press a button and they sing and dance. There's a cow, a cuckoo bird, duck, singing bananas and many many more. I went out of my way to come here for the first time and decided to take my son with me after seeing how cute the place looked from pics. I honestly never heard of or been to a Stew Leonard's before but my cousin always go there so I'm guessing it's gotta be good right? My son was so fascinated by the decor at this place with the animatronic monkey & other characters swinging to the singing avocados and mooing cows. It was a bit crowded when we went around 10 am on a Saturday and it felt like we were walking through a maze around the market going in a one way direction with all the others. Luckily we didn't miss anything and was able to get all the stuff we needed. They got practically everything you need including a doggy bar, fidget toy section, butcher, full service florist, liquor, deli and pizzeria as well as fresh meats, seafood, produce, dairy, hot food section, sushi and a whole lot of snacks. The prices are about the same as Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. They also got a coffee bar & ice cream station on your way out. We couldn't help but got some chocolate ice cream and vanilla milkshake plus $100 worth of groceries. Highly recommend checking this supermarket out and bring the kids! read more

Anyway my dad supposedly told us about this place years ago and our son would like it, but it wasn't until my hub's coworker told him about it did we say lets go! Took our son and y up he loved it. Came by on 8/4 to pick up rib eye steaks. We found a full rib or half, good healthy looking beef at a reasonable price. We had visited costco early today but no beef on sale. So my wife decided to check the specials and we got lucky. We purchased a half size beef rib, which can render about 7 -1-1/4, ! Good size and generous size portion. We are excited because we are planning on bbq for next week. The beef is very good quality and the butcher was very friendly and attentive during our visit. Went to this location today it's super spacious & they have a lot of things available. I was in a rush so I didn't get many things however I did get the lobster special for $4.99. I also loved the cooked meals that they had they had quesadilla with chicken and cheese, spaghetti and meatballs, cheese lasagna and once my mother heard that she wanted it! I also got some pistachio muffins which is also my mother favorite. They looked great very fresh and they were all a great size I had to get her 8! Yes she really likes these lol. I wanted some watermelon and they had that in a bowl already cut. They also had a large variety of fruit salads available I just wanted this one. Btw all of the fruit looked fresh! Not mushy or discolored! I will be back to visit. I started my relationship with this store in Yonkers as a friend was running errands and advised to come along for the experience! The store is layed out like an ikea where you walk through sections and have to see every department even if you don't have anything on your list! ( Yes you can cut through if you know your way around.) Through the last few months my favorites were the pizza dough, vodka sauce, the super fresh mozzarella, and seafood from mussels, salmon and any shrimp! I started making my own pizza at home with their vodka sauce and the fresh mozzarella. Then top off with some fresh basil and enjoy! Last weekend I decided to get very creative and decided to use the dough for pigs in the blanket. OMG never buying these frozen again. Worth the extra work. The mussels, shrimp, salmon, cod is so fresh and you get to pick how much and which piece. The selection is incredible! No i did not forget to mention the meats . Tomahawk steaks, steak burgers and all cuts of meats are locally farmed and they even carry Amish products as well! Best part is when you sign up for their app, every hundred bucks you spend you get a reward. You can get a coffee or just go straight for the pistachio ice cream! Stew Leonard's always has good quality food, prices are reasonable, always clean and up to date, well organized and has some animated figures for the kids which makes it a good shopping experience, it's like no other. It's located in East Meadow in the shopping center just south of Hempstead Turnpike by Eisenhower with ample parking. I don't usually shop here because I don't do the food shopping. I work nearby and we needed a small cake for my daughter's birthday during the week since it was just for 4 of us and we are having the family party another day. She likes the Red Velvet cake and sure enough Stew did not disappoint, there is was a 4 inch Red Velvet Cake for $5.99. Just perfect. Had it that evening it was really good and fresh. Overall, I love Stews concept and business model!! The moment you walk in you smell those delicious apple cider donuts, popcorn and get that country farm shopping vibe which is so nice in my opinion. Super clean and the staff is attentive. We love Stew's dairy! Especially their fresh soft serve ice cream.. you can't beat it! Even the soft serve yogurt is good. I also love the meats and prepared food, including the breads and cakes. The only thing I'm not a fan of is their cheese refrigerator. Any cheese I buy has a "I've been in the fridge too long taste." My favorites are the meat and seafood department as everything is really fresh and they have a huge selection of meats and seafood. I also love getting their cranberry walnut fresh baked bread. Although the buffet has a huge selection, I wasn't a huge fan. We decided to get 3 meals for about $45 because it's based on weight. I didn't think it was worth it but this is usually the case with any place that prices based on weight. For this I will minus one star.
