It's no-frills shopping: items are placed on shelves in the same cardboard boxes they were shipped in. There's no music and very little in the way of helping customers out. In exchange, prices are noticeably lower than anything you'd find in another comparably-sized store. They have almost everything- food of all types is covered, a big frozen section, cleaning products, a bit of pet food, health and beauty, and other bargains are taken care of twice weekly with the Special Buys. Cash or laser card are the only payments accepted. Given Tallaght's reputation, I found this Aldi really civilized, but I could see evidence of not-so-nice customers - broken pieces, smashed chocolate Santas, cracked-into six-packs. Still, I was happy to see some special offers from many weeks ago still available. All in all I had a pleasant experience, though I did feel a little bit watched over by the security officer. Was that because he suspected me, or because he wanted to make sure my armful of groceries wouldn't topple?

In the grand plans sold by planners, the estate would be served by a row of amenities, anchored by a Dunnes Grocery Store. These days, it seems Dunnes is the only business open in the tiny shopping park. As a stand-alone facility the shop is excellent. The aisles are clean and navigable, and though the fresh vege section is woefully under represented, there's plenty to choose from on the pre-packaged shelves (as well as a wine and spirits area around the back). The prices are competitive and there's always a few items on sale, but try to get your shopping done in the daytime as it's just too quiet here at night.

Customer service desk (and a till that allows up to 5 items to be bought, no weights, tho) is by the entrance and on the other side from the checkouts. I find this bit confusing, but it's alright. Shop is clean and tidy, has a big variety of products. Moderate parking lot. I saw a Pay&Display sign there, so also got confused where am I allowed to park as a Tesco customer and not pay.

As well as salad vegetables, dried fruits, nuts, seeds, it offers a Mediterranean selection bar of olives, sun dried tomatoes, sauces, pesto, oils and cheeses. A healthy deli section of cold cuts, cheese and spreads. A dried food area of pasta, noodles, rices and the like. Lots of pulses and beans and different types of flour and grains. But my favourite bit is the rich, sumptuous, organic HEALTHY chocolate bar selection! The owner is very friendly and works in the store and is seen polishing his apples and carrying creates of fresh produce which arrives daily! Yes for some reason it's confusingly designed, but perhaps that's just because I've gotten used to the rigid layout of LiDL! The fresh fruit and veg here is particularly good... like fragrant strawberries that smell so nice you think about buying them instead of chocolate (ok not for long!) They also have an range of fresh breads and quite good fresh cakes. Although I didn't buy any despite looking at them for a long time. Another great thing about superquinn is their sausages. No matter how much Denny try and posh themselves up they're just not going to match these babies. If you haven't done so already give them a try. As mentioned by others this supermarket is pricey, so I held back on buying too much... still the few items came to the same price as a far bigger shop in Aldi or LiDL would have... but still you have to have a bit of luxury now and then. They also seem to have this weird self-assessment buying system where you can take your own barcode scanner around with you - I think you have to be a clubcard member and they randomly check a few people. Weird but I can see how it would make shopping much more efficient. I don't have a clubcard, so I didn't try. Yes the crazy car park freaked me out too... don't go at peak times!

Despite having the worst carpark in Dublin, rules of the road out the window here. Superquinn used to be the closest thing Ireland had to a relatively posh shop, although thats all changed now with even Dunnes getting in on the act. They still like to think of themselves as a cut above the rest. Translation; expect to generally pay more. Other then this and the prices its well stocked if a little confusing in layout or maybe thats just me? Very well stocked wine and beer section, bakery (great cakes to order) butchers and fish sections.
