Small theatre with a very selective programme of events. Have had some really interesting nights here. Worth a visit.

They explained the past and made sure we saw all the features of this landmark cathedral. The cathedral dates back to the 7th century. Originally built with sticks, the current Gothic cathedral was re- built in stone between 1195 and 1340. During the English Civil War in the 17th century, the cathedral was heavily damaged and later restored in the Victorian era. This beautiful cathedral features 3 spires. The central spire and two western spires are a distinctive feature, earning the nickname "Ladies of the Vale. The inside boasts over 100 statues of saints and biblical figures, and truly is one of the most elaborate in England. The stained glass windows from the 16th century are beautiful examples of fine Renaissance glass.

I cannot do the history and the story justice so let me share this link: https://www.lichfield-cathedral.org/ Make sure that you visit to admire the beauty, the architecture and the history. If possible visit while the choir is singing (either in practice or in a service. As a family with US visitors we attended a Christmas Eve service and it was wonderful - the choir (spoiled only by us joining in ;-) ) and the service itself. The reverend was very down to Earth (started by asking who in the congregation had already had a drink that evening - I, half or more of the congregation and he himself raised our hands!! Lichfield itself is a really fun, small…read morecity in the West Midlands, home to some great history, and coincidentally, a very couth and moneyed demographic, which means going out in the city centre isn't as fraught with danger as it could be. The George IV attracts a great crowd, from 20s to 40s, all usually well-dressed and -behaved. The drinks are nice and they have more wine than a typical pub. But the best thing about this pub is the live music, which happens every Fri and Sat, and many Thursdays. But it's not just live cover bands, it's the best indie, alt and upcoming bands the area can find. The first night (of many) we went here, we heard an amazing blues/funk band that rocked our socks off. There's not really a place to dance, though people do try their best, especially one regular known for his colourful, flamboyant shirts (and dance moves). The beer garden is spacious, with lots of tables and benches, and a nice, relaxed vibe with pretty flowers climbing up white washed stone. The crowd is super friendly, and easy-going, and it's a great way to spend a low-key, music-filled Friday night.

If you're looking for nice, home cooked food, then it is very pleasant to eat here, although they really need to expand the menu and although the chips are home cooked, I don't really 'do' chips, so there isn't much choice if you're not a chip fan. Their home made pies are great. The chicken and leek pie, well, I have never seen so many leeks in a pie, I was very impressed! The rooms are nice, with comfy sofas and tables to sit at if you're dining. Children are welcome and there is free wi-fi available, which is great if you have a smart phone and you want to check your emails. The staff are friendly and if you're dining, will serve everything (including drinks) at the table, rather than having to order or pay at the bar, like you would do at most pubs. Apparently they also put a film on in the back room (I think it's on a Sunday afternoon), which I think is a good idea. A pleasant place to stop for a pint and platter in the centre of Lichfield.
