There is little to NO parking, NO access to a microphone, restrooms are literally right there in same room as event. The LCD access was a no go, and the heat over taking the AC. The "catering services " recommended was horrible. They provided food but no warmers to keep it hot so food was cold and the two "servers" were dressed in street attire and actually left before they were done. Not very professional at all. Catering services didn't even provide drinks. The pictures you see are from what people who rented the place have done, other than that it looks like a warehouse. Not my cup of tea. It's on the corner of Howard and Mulberry so all you heard was loud ambulances riding by. Again, thanks to us it turned out nice, but not a classes place at all.

We get it. No one with a modicum of common sense or a basic understanding of history thinks slavery was a good thing. I don't need to be hit over the head with it every other exhibit. I took my family to the FAM because we love history and appreciate the amount of it that happened in this area of Virginia. My recommendation: Go to the ground level floor and stay there. The food is phenomenal for being festival food (but then again I love Polish food). For fair prices you can get potato pancakes, pierogies and imported beer. They have musicians and dancing for entertainment, though I suggest if you're interested in that kind of thing going later on, since that's when the bulk of it happens.
