I champion all libraries and we should be flooding them to take advantage of the clubs, panels, classes, and other resources. Today I checked out the Carmelo Anthony exhibit which has been extended to the 19th of January. It's completely FREE! It was truly a great exhibit and so amazing to see and relearn about so many pivotal points in his career, community impacts and soundtrack to his life and career. You also can sign up for a Melo library card (limited edition)!! I think this is a great initiative to get people into the library again and reintroduce why the library is an amazing place to be!

I come to this library primarily to use the study rooms which are nice, spacious and comfortable. They have a white board inside of them as well. My favorite part of this library is the display of African American baseball artifacts on multiple levels. It shows how important, valuable and the great contribution African Americans players made to the sport of baseball. Park on the garage level.....maybe on floor 3 of the garage which had a small bridge to enter the library directly. Also, The community college shares the upper floors of this library as well which includes larger study rooms and an entire computer lab. The staff is really helpful as well. I didn't get exactly what I came for because you…read moreonly see a limited number of rooms in the house and you can't take photos on the first floor (to protect the artifacts) . . . but it was still a worthwhile trip! First, call ahead (there is no online system so you do actually have to call) to make sure they are giving tours and at what times (only certain days of the week, last tour usually starts at 1 PM). This mansion is another relic from the gilded age, however this one isn't completely stuck in the past and is a living, breathing arts venue. The last residents (she died in 1956 I think) had no children and left it to Johns Hopkins University with the specification it be used as an art museum. And there is a lot of interesting and attractive art, though it's mostly art by European white men. That's just what the owners collected . . . but our docent told us they are trying to diversify the collection by purchasing pieces by artists of color. The libraries are actually part of the Johns Hopkins collection and students can make appointments to come read them or use them for research. There are some nature books and some Audubon books that are so large that they require two people to move and turn the pages. There is also a reading room for students. It was previously their bedroom, which they didn't want displayed. There are some fun little quirky rich people things (if you dissociate from today's capitalistic hell). A 23K gold bathroom. The second wife who lived in the residence was obsessed with herself and had multiple paintings and busts of herself around the home. And her bathtub was surrounded by mirrors, including a mirror on the ceiling. A bowling alley that was turned into a display space for all their expensive artificacts. A lot of Tiffany glass. Antiquities. My admission was 10 dollars with a AAA discount. I think regular admission is 12 dollars.

Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and explained a lot about each room and answered all of our questions. There are a lot of beautiful and unique objects, even though unfortunately photograph isn't allowed in the good rooms. The sheer amount of books they owned and how they present them is pretty inspiring. The Garrett's having their own performance/stage area is pretty unique, and you can even rent the space out if desired. At the end, there's a great display of their Asian art collection, and then suddenly you are back in the gift shop where you started, which has some good items. The tour was more than an hour, but it was really interesting, and all the employees were excited to answer questions, so you could see their passion. It's a great tour and worth doing if in Baltimore.

It's quite small but packed with the best items and it mainly attracts children as there's a school next door. But the staff is always super friendly - I never have my physical card but they can find me or enter in my number. The library also does a summer reading challenge (I just learned about this). If you sign up for the challenge in June, you get a free book for three months. I only signed up in July so I got my first free book and I will be going back in August. They also do a reading challenge so you just tell them how many books you read that month and then they enter you into a raffle I will for sure be signing up early next year and I just recommend everyone do this. It's amazing!

Parking is really hard in this area because it's on a very busy street and in Fed Hill. This is very close to Cross Street market so you can grab a bite while you stop at this library branch if you wanted. I do think their selection is more focused on the youth because there are a lot of families and schools nearby but glad I finally got to go in because I've seen it for years.

They have many activities during the week, and sometimes during the day they hold events for the kids in the community, which I think is awesome. This means that at times the kids section of the library (all on the same floor) can get a little noisy. There is a small, glass container/room where you can hold group meetings. Parking can be a little tricky in this part of town, but that's a price I'm willing to pay for a library in a great location.

While the location itself is relatively small, there is still a great selection of books on the shelves in each category and of course you can easily log on to the library's webpage with your card and reserve any book in the system (or request books through MARIANA) to be transported from any library in the state of Maryland to be brought right here to Hampden. Now that's what I call service! And while I'm on my soapbox of loving the library, your card / account gives you access to Libby, Kanopy, and Hoopla (and I'm sure much more) and audio books, e-reads, and streaming of shows, movies, documentaries are all possible - for free! I've always been fond of my local libraries. I've come here in the past to vote, but this visit was…read moreto utilize the library tools. I needed to print some documents. My printer was down and I had to have them quickly so, I knew I could do that here. I dealt with two librarians who were very helpful. When I couldn't log onto the computer one of the librarians checked my account and made a change that allowed me to sign on. Then, when I needed to print, she instructed me on the procedures. You can't just print directly to a printer. Once you print the items you want, you'll head to another computer, log on there, and your documents will be in a que waiting to be printed. You can choose color or black and white, then print. The first 20 pages each day are free to print. Cool! The computers were packed. Luckily I found one that was available, but keep that in mind. It was a calm, welcoming environment. They also have security on-site. That made me curious, but I suppose it's better to have them there and not need them than need them and not have them. Check out your local library!

The…read moreelectronic hold process via the website was easy and the staff was helpful when I arrived for pickup. They introduced me to Summer Break Baltimore, a summer reading initiative. With enrollment you receive a free T-shirt and a new book during the months of June, July and August! They also have prize raffles when you complete a book or participate in an event. I visited this library for the first time yesterday because it is finals week at my school and I…read morehave to cram in a lot of work by next week. I arrived to the library around 12:30pm and sat upstairs at the large table near the teenage book section with my assignments and headphones to start working. As I was finding my seat, I saw a sign on the quiet study room that said no elementary or middle schoolers were allowed in. I didn't think much of it l because there were no children around. Sometime after 2pm, multiple kids (elementary and middle school age) showed up and the library turned unintentionally into an aftercare program. They were very noisy and the librarian constantly had to remind them of proper library etiquette. I was glad to see kids use the library's free resources so I give 4 stars. The library is beautiful, was clean and maintained very well but the children made it difficult to get my work done. Next time I'll visit earlier and/or go in the study room. I didn't notice until I was going back to my car that there were so many schools located right next to the library so definitely come earlier in the day to avoid the ruckus.
