I hate to be the bearer of bad news and follow the many bad reviews that Liberty University has on this site, but "If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck"...Then you know the rest.
Just to clarify my credentials, and my wifes', we are both white collar professionals in the Richmond, VA market working for Fortune 500 companies. We have lived in this community for the majority of our lives and have very strong relationships with highly regarded professionals such as doctors, lawyers , and upper level managers. We are strong believers in the old saying, "do as to others, as you would have them do on to you", and this is just not the case with Liberty University. I have never written an online review in my life, so here are some highlights to be aware of:
1.) They will request an academic transcript - not that this is a bad thing, but they are so desperate to get online enrollment into that system, if you have a check or credit card, I'm fairly certain you will get in. (My wife was "accepted" into their Masters program, even though her GPA did not meet their standards)?? Red Flag all the way and not good for the future of that school. If my wife's GPA was not good enough, they should have rejected her application and moved on. (and trust me, I wish they had). Bottom line, enrolling into a school that is lowering their standards to accept students is a lousy business decision. Moreover, getting a degree from a school that is willing to lower their standards is a much worse business decision.
2.) "Students earning their master degree online have the flexibility to complete assignments any time during the week, day or night.....
Sounds great when your researching colleges and this is one of the main tag lines on the Liberty University website, but very far from the truth. The very first online class that my wife attended, she was put into a group format with 5 students total. Let me make this clear, she was not able to complete her assignment on her own watch. My wife and I have a busy life. When we read a line from a Christian school that says we can complete assignments on our own time, then that's what we expect. Nothing more, nothing less!!
3.) After experiencing #2 above, I made the call to complain. This is where the nightmare really began. I can truly say that given my position in the business world, this school is living in a cartoon land. My complaint was pushed from one cubicle to the next, and I'm fairly certain they used the same playbook as my local cable company. They have a system in place that I can only describe as "all words, and no action". I have spoken to at least three supervisors at the University, and not one of them had the authority to make a decision. In fact, when I demanded that I speak with someone in an upper management level position, who had the authority to make a decision, they refused my request.
4.) Last, but not least. I was told by an academic advisor to have my wife fill out the proper paper work to withdrawal from the class. I made it very clear at that time that anything less than 100% reimbursement was not acceptable. I was unfortunately mislead, and we later received a call that our request would not be fulfilled.
Overall, I cannot say anything good about my short lived experience with Liberty University. Maybe I should not be judging a book by its' cover, but I really do not think the content found within is worth the time to get involved. I just wanted the University to do the right thing, and they failed in every aspect imaginable. Unfortunately for Liberty University, we have no future intentions of ever promoting this school to any worker or subordinates within our organizations.
Sincerely,
