New Vistas School - Lynchburg, Virginia - VA
My daughter attended this school for two years and thrived. I wish I could afford to send her back as E.C.Glass has been hard for her. Helpful (0).

They need to take support of high functioning autism off their web page. If you have a child with this diagnosis, they will deal with it no better than any public school has to offer. They do not understand, and very clearly displayed, that they have no interest in truly understanding. They treat anxiety and peaceful shut downs with threats and disciplinary action instead of following an established IEP. Worse, they will make you believe, especially the assistant dean, Tom Powers, that they understand and have a grasp of the issues, and give you hope after a long road. Only to do no better than your average public school system. Which is actually worse when you and your child think you may actually have found a safe, supportive space.
I'm a mental health therapist and mom, with experience and education in working with autism. And I spent a considerable amount of time at this school. Much of the staff have beautiful hearts. But judgmental of what they do not understand and do not seek to understand. If your child has high functioning autism, look elsewhere, or if you give this a try and your child is struggling, it is not your child. This school is simply not equipped or willing to be equipped and educated in order to understand and act accordingly and appropriately in your child's best interests.
