Ran D Shine is amazing and everyone needs to go see him.

My husband and I had such a great time seeing Ran D Shine at Liberty Magic. We went a month ago and enjoyed Henry Evans. We thought Ran D Shine was even better. Ran D was such a great storyteller. Everyone really enjoyed all the stories and him explaining how he got into and learned magic. He also got the audience involved in all his magic. I was happy to be involved and do the dice trick. Everyone was amazed by so many cool things that he did that you could see but couldn't explain. He took cards from one girl's pocket and transferred them to a guy's pocket. He made coins disappeared. He took off his thumb cuffs quickly and easily and took a guy's credit card. The people who work there are very nice and welcoming. The guy in the entrance was a good magician too.

Jon Tao's Road Signs was mesmerizing. Part humor, wisdom, emotional, & pure magic. I literally left the performance speechless. I didn't desire to know how he did it & that keeps the magic alive for me. Tai's storytelling is engaging & phenomenal. I noted a quote of his which says "Maybe to be nothing it's possible to be anything." I found that statement to be profound. We are all connected in someway & Tai showed us how. Great performance w/awesome & willing crowd engagement. Because of Jon Tai....I believe in magic :)

Went to the magic show last night and saw Henry Evans! It was an amazing experience and I would definitely recommend! The show was very magical, fun, and interactive. The staff working was very nice as well!

This Sunday we attended the family-friendly performance at Liberty Magic - Mr. Messado's School of Magic. I'd love to tell you everything that we learned, but I think you all know the number one rule in magic school.... Here's what I CAN tell you. Liberty Magic is located on Liberty Avenue right next to the Harris Theatre. Just look for the guy hanging upside down by chains. You can't miss it.... Walking in to the building my kids were mesmerized by the magic that surrounded us. Jon Tai, a magician (whose performance at Liberty Magic was amazing BTW) at the front desk, greeted us and instructed us to pull a magic card. The kids took a card and looked around wide-eyed in wonder. This facade of this speakeasy doubles is a magic shop with an abundance of delightful tricks and treasures on every wall. Jon motioned for us to take our seats. In order to get to the theater we had to sneak through the doorway behind the front desk where we ran smack into a fully functioning Zoltar machine. Walking in to the theater, there's not a bad seat in the house as this intimate performance is to an audience of about 60 in 4 rows cuddling the stage. The kids were each given their own composition book to take notes of the lessons they were about to endure over the next hour. Mr. Messado was comedic, highly entertaining, and truly nailed this family-friendly show. Can't wait to see what Liberty Magic pulls out next!

    Magic show!

Wow! What a magical time! This place is amazing - it's super intimate so there is truly not a bad seat in the house. Hubby and I attended yelp's event last night: Lee Terbosic's In Plain Sleight show. He had the whole place in the palm of his hand. It was a really entertaining show - he's funny and everyone was amazed by his act- he made a table levitate! How I have no idea but it was something to see. This is a theater that was built especially for close up magic shows - we're one of a handful of cities that have that which is really cool. The space is cool and interesting and BYOB (only $5/person drinking corkage fee). We had a great time - a night full of laughs and amazement - thanks Yelp for an awesome time. We'll be coming back for sure to see more acts - apparently they have 6-8 week runs. It's only been open for almost 2 months - I can't wait to come back!

We have been to Liberty Magic numerous times (we were season subscribers before the pandemic and afterwards), and just about every time we come here, we see something new, something amazing, something that makes us wonder . . . how did they do that? Usually, there is a warm-up magic act in the lobby as doors open 30 minutes prior to the show, and then the headliner performs. Last night, the amazing Jon Tai warmed us up with some card and coin tricks, and then Mr. Messado took the stage as the Master of Ceremonies, and introduced us to featured performer, Ran'D Shine, performing "Evidence of Things Unseen." Ran'D dazzled us from the get-go with numerous tricks including a deck of cards, some coins, ball and cup, thumb-cuffs, and many more that I don't want to spoil . . . it was a very fun show, and Ran'D was an amazing performer. If you get the chance to attend, you should go, his show runs thru December 30th . . . Cheers!!!

What a great evening.. Lee Terbosic is amazing and very talented. Ok I will say it ... "How does he do that!?" He sure knows his magic. I liked the intimate seating and really felt we were part of the show.. then again we kind of were! We will definitely be returning. I haven't stopped talking about the show!!! The Plain Sleight Show by Lee will run for several weeks. Definitely check out the website if you are interested. This show is good for adults (young adults too). Tickets prices aren't that bad either. Liberty Magic is located on Liberty Avenue just blocks away from several great restaurants. Parking garage located just across the street. Its nice that BYOB is offered with a small fee but the time went so fast I wasn't even thinking of drinking.. I was so into the show! Thank you to yelp and Liberty Magic such a "magical" evening! It's very much appreciated.

Thursday evening to see Billy Kidd! Thanks @Yelp!
    Spencer S.

Really enjoyed our evening watching Billy Kidd perform her magic tricks! We were on the edges of our seats the whole time! She was very engaging and the audience was similarly engaged. The space is relatively small (4 rows of chairs that sit roughly 30-35 people) but that's super nice considering how close up and intimate everything is. The venue itself is also really nice! The lighting in good, the decorations are fun, it feels clean and the wood accents behind the performer look nice as well. 11/2/19 Update: Been here four more times and it gets better every time! Love this place, the staff, and the whole experience!

So much fun! Great curb appeal.

Thank you to Pittsburgh Yelp, and Liberty Magic for a fantastic evening! Going to see Mark Toland the "mind reader" was something that was definitely out of my comfort zone. I have never been to any type of magic, or mind reading show and I have to admit that within minutes of being there my mind was seriously BLOWN AWAY! The things that Mark knew, and the way that he worked the audience was something that I have never seen. I was very impressed with everything that he knew. I was also extremely grateful that I wasn't pulled from the audience, but I did love watching everyone else be put on the spot (evil laugh) :) The space itself is small and intimate. The seating is lovely, and the bathrooms were extremely clean. Please note there is a BYOB fee of $5 per person. I loved knowing this in advance, so I could bring my favorite bottle to the show! 5/5 stars, highly recommend Liberty Magic (And especially Mark Toland's Mind Reading Show)

My grandma bought tickets for her & I to see the show, so I didn't look much into it prior to going. Being completely honest, when she said "magic show" I was expected something a little hokey and lame. Liberty Magic was none of the above! This felt like a very upscale venue that could be great for a date night or even just a trip out with your family. I saw Robert Ramirez (it sounds like different magicians rotate through every few months) and he was amazing! Most of the tricks I had never seen before and he was also an outstanding performer who was really good about interacting with the audience. When you arrive, you stand in a small lobby where a guy is doing card tricks. You're allowed into the small theater about 30 min prior to the show. They provide complimentary sparkling water. The earlier you arrive the better seats you can get, but for the most part every seat is a really good seat because the theater is so small. When the magician does card tricks on a table, the theater has a nice HD video camera that projects the close up magic onto tv screens on the side of the stage-- really easy to see everything that's going on. I can't say enough good things about this place. The venue was VERY cool & the magic was legitimately amazing. I will definitely come back next time I'm in Pittsburgh to check out some other magicians!

Yes . . . She is young and maybe not as polished as some of the other acts we have seen here, but still, we enjoyed her performance. Cheers!

I've been here for a variety of events (and that is one of the cool things about the space). There are resident companies that use the space, but various organizations and companies can also rent the space. Which means there is a nice mix of programming available. There are seats around the stage (which aren't always used for each performance) and upper and lower level seating. One thing to note is that their seats are not that wide, so if you are a larger patron or have a wider bottom, it will be a tight squeeze. Sight lines are great from everywhere and it is easy to hear. Parking is available for free in the garage right near the theater. A great place to catch a show!

With a partnership with AHN, they direct you with ample signage and the lot is simple to enter right across from the theater! The area is beautiful and very safe! Tree lined sidewalks and clean areas around. The theater is a little outdated in entry. For a small capacity, you stood outside in line for an extended time due to a single ticket taker with a clipboard list. This delayed the performance by 15 minutes as he struggled to check people in. The lobby is centered around a bar for refreshments. The tickets are sold per section (A-D) without specific assigned seats. We set in the mezzanine and entered through the second floor. Some of the seats are "dangerous" with small catwalks and seats perched with no floor behind them. My friend actually lost her shoe mid performance as it fell through the opening. The productions are limited in set design and technology due to the theater size but there are plenty of plays and shows that don't require as much. If you have a chance to check out New Hazlett, I'd definitely recommend it.

There is a variety of programming offered from cabaret style solo performances to smaller scale musicals. This review is focused on the service aspects, which are less than optimal. We attended on a Thursday night when we saw an excellent 1-man play of Die Hard. The entertainment was highly enjoyable, but the food and table service were frustrating. We came an hour early with a plan to enjoy dinner before the show. They don't have anyone who will wait on you - they force you to use their QR code at the table to order. Most of their dinner options were marked as "out of stock", so we were corralled into ordering a burger or a pasta dish. Those items were very good, but we didn't like the railroading aspect. Post-delivery service was limited, to even get extra mayo - the food deliverer dumped and ran in a flash. Trying to talk to the nice elderly ushers was fruitless with no satisfaction involved. When we had questions about the food, ours even amicably acknowledged that we ''couldn't talk to'' the waitresses. Worst of all - the invoicing included an un-changeable 20% tip! So if you ordered a 2nd drink, 20% was also added on top of that. (To have some sense of control, I went to the outside bar to get our 2nd drinks - and did tip, but not 20%). The frustration factor of how the food service is run and charged for inserted unnecessary challenges into the otherwise pleasant mood for the evening.

The musical performance in and of itself was phenomenal and could have stood by itself as it's own performance. I especially enjoyed the voice of Aja Wiltshire who sang in traditional Cambodian style music. We were amazed how she could throw her voice across the entire audience as a soprano. The pitch of her voice paired with the power behind it and the unique sound of the entire band and flashing lights is quite the spectacle. Greg Watanabe, who played a protective father with a tough past, gave an unquestionably powerful acting performance as he was showing the horrors of a very dark past that comes to light only until later in the play as the plot mysteriously unravels. The emotions and energy he puts into the many difficult encounters he faces throughout the play with his tears and sweat pouring down his body reminds one of the humanity of Cambodias difficult history. Overall, they did an excellent job of tackling heavy subject material with humor and the personal stories of the characters. There were millions of other lines they could have chosen to reference Rock N Roll culture. Why choose this line? Why have white actors say that line? Regardless of who Lou Reed was referencing in the song, describing people as "colored" has a very specific meaning in the context of the United States history. Furthermore, he has omitted the word "colored" from the song and has other questionable songs in regards to race.
