Their…read moretarget audience is retired baby boomers, so they seem really oblivious to the fact that all my friends under 30 listen to it regularly. It's probably because all their music has been vetted by decades of time, which means they're digging up some real oldies gold. Be prepared to discover a world of classic pop that will blow your mind. Impeccable song writing and performances that far exceed that British Invasion of the 60s. They're tagline is "smooth and easy." Their talk programs are really funny to listen in to, although a bit too commercial-oriented in my opinion (they really want to sell old people some stuff!). The promos for them are hilarious though, hearing people with thick accents talk about how old people have NO IDEA how to save their money. I also regularly perform karaoke songs I hear on this station for the first time. All hits!

Christina Aguilera - Your Body For what it is, this isn't a terrible song, but I'm started to get a sense of what this station is going to play. Goo Goo Dolls - Iris I take it back, I had no idea this was coming. This one is an old school shout out to the old Z95.3. Ian Carey & Rosette - Amnesia I could have sworn this was going to be some new cover of the Supremes "Keep Me Hanging On". It's not. The hook is a blatant ripoff in this monstrosity of a song. DJ comes on for some "fun" banter". Katy Perry - Wide Awake This song must be popular because this has come up before in my radio reviews on other stations, but I couldn't tell for the life of me why it is. Deborah Cox - Who Do You Love You know it's times like these that you really miss a guy like Phil Spector that could really pair great singers with great songs. Cox sounds like she has a great voice, but the music is bung. Advertisements (5-6 min) So just like that 30 minutes is by in a flash and I feel like this radio station caters to people that don't really like music. It reminds me of when I would go to parties in High School, and the host doesn't have any music except for a few that she ordered from Columbia House. The ladies aren't so bad, but Kid, true to his name, is like listening to the class clown who constantly interrupted the Grade 10 English teacher. This morning they were trying to convince the single people of Vancouver that they should pay $60 to go to Pop Opera (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/pop-opera-vancouver#hrid:r2CPtB9SNfVEe6h3wnjppg) for some singles night to hook up with a "snuggle buddy" before Valentine's day. Gag. Do people listen to this crap? Really? They followed up by playing some top 40 dance anthem. Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyonce, Britney Spears and Kevin Rudolf f/ Lil Wayne are the current "Top 5" on their playlist and Miss Spears features twice in their Top 10. I do have to give props to the staff member who has to decide what's going to make "the worst of Kid Carson" clips. They have a LOT of bad commentary to review.

Apparently this station doesn't play music. 2:20 Finally some songs: David Crosby - Long Time It's been a really long time since I've heard this song. Pretty cool. April Wine - Roller Pretty standard classic rock, kind of dated. Journey - Don't Stop Believin' A song that almost everyone on this planet knows, but surprisingly don't know who sings it. Steve Perry is a great frontman. I once saw a 12 year old boy belt out this song at Talent Time, it was amazing. Odds - It Falls Apart Local boys, which obviously is the obligatory CanCon. Kind of stretching the classic rock boundaries. 2:38 Back to advertising. I'm going to have to stop, the ads are hurting my ears.

CiTR is operated by UBC students and community volunteers under the ownership of the Student Radio Society of the University of British Columbia, an entity closely affiliated with UBC's Alma Mater Society. Shortly after high school I started contributing directly and indirectly to CITR. I have them to thank for really pushing me into writing about music and exploring what is beyond mainstream. I met some awesome DJ's, participating in working with some of the most awesome people, and even worked on air a few times. It was a very welcoming club on campus that allowed me to be a part of something that wasn't a sport. I did write for Discorder before branching out and doing my thing.

Ever since the Harper government got rid of the late night new music/alternative programming like…read more'Brave New Waves', and replaced it with bland fare with no hosts, and axed Jurgen Goth's Disc Drive in the afternoons, and replaced it with programming that sounds like a dull adult contemporary station, it just isn't what it used to be. The AM side in the afternoon with Stephen Quinn is preferable to me. I went online to BBC 6 Music after the death of Brave New Waves. It reminds me of what the indie/alternative music programming used to be like on CBC Radio 2, with live bands in to play and the on-air people programming their own music.
