I arrived for my appointment and the technician asked me if I had any other concerns which I did, he spoke with the dentist & she advised him to just take images of the teeth that I had concerns of. After the dentist met with me I went to make a follow up appointment regarding my sensitive tooth, I approached the receptionist desk where she was whispering to the receptionist. I was told by the receptionist that the dentist wanted Imaging of all of my teeth & she informed me that my insurance would not cover the x-rays and I would have to pay out-of-pocket reason being that the dentist requested only three images that were just taken by the technician. The dentist was well aware that I had not been to that office in one complete year, why wouldn't she advise the technician to take imaging of all of my teeth? When I asked to speak with the dentist all of a sudden she was busy. This is unethical on her part & quite honestly bad business, she was quite unlikable & made the impression that it was more about making money than giving great care, I will not be returning and I advise anyone to use caution when dealing with Shoreline Dental in Milford Connecticut! Every single staff member I talked to yesterday was wonderful and genuinely cared that you walked through the doors and felt comfortable and welcomed. The office looks brand new and is sparkling clean. I did my teeth cleaning - where they had TVs in each of the patient corners- even one on the ceiling - which I thought was a really fun touch. When Dr Jason came in to check on me he found not one, but two cavities - the first ever in my life! He has an opening pretty soon after so I stayed and he took care of them 15 minutes tops. I walked out the door with a smile and a great swag bag of Shoreline Dental merch. This place is the real deal from top to bottom. I first had 2 quadrant scaling sessions and then got a great recommendation for oral surgeon. Afterwards, I had two painless (after extra shots) appointments of getting a new crown and getting a deep cavity filling. For the cavity filling, he took a before and after picture using the camera and it's pretty cool to see the inside of my mouth. She accidentally sprayed me in the eye with numbing formula due to the pain I was in with a particular upper molar but after my initial surprise we laughed and joked about it! Dr. Schechter came in after reviewing my new patient paperwork and seemed more interested in the name of my former dentist (who made my dental phobia 30 years ago severe) than he was in actually respecting my begging him to stop pushing and digging around a tooth that I was already in pain with because nothing was showing on the Xray taken. Clearly there was a large communication gap where neither of 2 members of his staff shared any information I took the time to give them (unless he chose to ignore it) and how important it was-I was very clear that I have severe dental phobia. He actually got annoyed with me and remarked "Wow, you don't want me to examine this at all" (which is when I actually asked to be given gas for my anxiety). Instead he tells me his "relaxing demeanor" is enough to calm his patients (!!!) WOW. This is NOT the place you want to go if you have dental phobia, oh and by the way, they don't offer the gas to calm you down if you do. I have no idea how there are glowing reviews about this guy. Despite insurance limitations, Dr. Martinez worked with me to achieve my goals, attempting to save a tooth most other dentists would've simply extracted and looking at both long term and short term advantages to particular treatments. He made me part of my treatment plan and I never felt I had to do anything I was unsure of. When my father died, I needed to fly across the country for the memorial service. The day before I had to leave, I broke a tooth and called Dr. Martinez. Even though the office was closed, he quickly called me back and worked out a mutually beneficial time to see me. He came in on a Sunday morning at 6AM to fix my tooth before I had to get on the plane. The procedure took almost 2.5 hours and he had plans with his (then) pregnant wife for later that morning. His wife came to the office when he was finishing up to pick him up and had nothing but kind and sympathetic words for my loss. He never charged me a dime for that visit. Whenever I've had an issue where the out-of-pocket charge is more than I can afford, he puts payment on the back burner to ensure that I am healthy and comfortable. Dr. Martinez is a dentist who is a caring human being first. He has a way of helping his patients achieve what they don't think is possible in terms of care. He doesn't allow insurance to dictate treatments (he'll save a tooth instead of extracting it even if the insurance would indicate extraction as the recommended course) and works with patients on payment - both in terms of the total owed and allowing payments to be made on the patient's ability to pay. Recently I learned that Dr. Martinez is working from Life Long's Tolland office. Despite the fact that it is an hour's drive for me (instead of the 5 minutes between my house and his Milford office), I will be making the road trip because there is no one I trust more with my dental care than Dr. Martinez.
