Steve Lever is a top notch bankruptcy attorney!!! I found him through Yelp. Unfortunately, I was in debt because of huge medical expenses. I picked up a second job on the weekends. I also started driving for Door Dash, Postmates, Uber, and Lyft at night after work. Despite all the work I was doing, I couldn't afford to buy food or put gas in my car and ended up maxing out all my credit cards within a six month period. I felt like such a failure and started looking into debt consolidation. I found out that my credit would get even worse because they have you pay into a savings account and pay each bill off one by one. In the meantime, non of the other creditors are getting paid, so you incur late fees and receive collections calls. I knew this wasn't the way to go because I couldn't even afford the monthly amount they wanted from me. Besides, you can negotiate with the creditors yourself and not pay their hefty fees. I was so nervous and scared to claim bankruptcy. Steve made me feel so comfortable about it and made the process so easy. I paid him a flat fee in monthly installments for four months before my bankruptcy was officially filed. I went to his office only three times for approximately two hours each time. During those visis he explained the process and taught me how to manage my money better so I don't end up in this situation again. I did have to go to court approximately one month after filing to meet with the trustee. The meeting went smoothly and was over pretty fast (about an hour waiting my turn and approximately 10 minutes for the meeting ). I received my discharge a month later. The whole process took about six months to file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. If you are in a bad financial situation like I was, I highly recommend him!!! read more

Let me start off by saying my partner hired Steve for her bankruptcy and everything went pretty smooth with her. However, I had doubts with him and confronted her during the process. Once my partner sees good in someone, she doesn't look back. I had asked Steve during her process what he thought about my credit with out running it and if it would be a value to file. I explained my situation to him regarding past due bills and having $xx amount of debt. Of course he stated it would be, but I wasn't sure I wanted to file at that time & have BK on my record. After debate for close to a year I finally decided that I wanted to look further into. I wanted my credit checked to make sure it was worth it, which he did for my partner before any payment was received. I reached out to Steve via e-mail, his response threw me off, but I continued to seek counsel with him. "Hi Tiffaney: This got sent directly to me--which is fine." We spoke over the phone and Steve asked, "what made you change your mind" I explained to him that I was ready, I wanted him to run the credit and and make sure it was a value. Steve explained that he can run a report that is $33 and if I choose to continue it will be included in the fees, if not, I would be responsible just for the report. Here is were it gets weird again,..... "Are you going to have to make payments like your partner had too?" Steves's tone was not pleasant. I explained to him, I wouldn't need to make payments I will be paying the bill up front. We scheduled a time for consultation and that was that. SOOOO I THOUGHT!!!! Noooo!!! I received a retainer letter, along with e-mails and phone calls to make payment. Last phone call I received was from Felipe asking if I was going to sign the retainer and make payment. I explained to him that I wasn't going to sign anything until the appointment date. He said he had to check with Steve to see if that was okay. I received a call back but missed it, VOICEMAIL stating that Steve would not be able to see me unless the payment is made on the day of or before. WHAT!!! I called and spoke with Steve directly and his comments....OMG.. "my time is valuable" and payment needs to be made. I'm sorry when you advise a potential client we are Running a $33 report and we will go from there. Why on earth will I pay you the BK amount before making a final decision? His attitude was sooooo RUDE, I expressed how I felt and mentioned it makes me feel that I should seek elsewhere. His response, "then you should go."
