I recently left Levenson Eye Associates after I moved and made an appointment with a large group of eye specialists on the Southside. They recommended cataract surgery within a year. I cancelled the surgery and went back to Levenson Eye Associates for a second opinion. I'm so glad I did! Dr Schmidt said it looks like the beginning of cataracts for me and probably I should have the surgery 3-4 years down the road. I had both right and left cataract surgery in December of this year a few weeks apart. It's been so wonderful to be able to see again. I didn't realize just how bad my vision had gotten. I had me surgeries on a Thursday and by my 24 hour checkups on Friday I had 20/20 vision. i called on 7/8 & explained my reason for call. i fell face first on tile floor at Target. prior to 7/5, i had been treated fot 16 months by dr Levenson & last 5 by retina spec. i had a bleed behind RT eye. i wanted to know if dr Levenson needed to just check my RT eye. Guy said he would send my question to trama area & they would contact me. NO called me back! i think my eye is ok but thought it best to run by him. Just called & explained & said I never got a return call. Girl did "heavy sigh" which I said her sigh was not necessary as I was being polite! Silence... then she said, flat voice, I'm listening!!! Dr. Curtis Schmidt prescribed my contacts so I can finally see perfectly after 7 eye doctors in the past 7 years! Other eye doctors pushed me to soft lenses after not being able to get my Rx correct ... have't seen well since the change from semi-permeable lenses in 2014, which I had worn for 30+ years. Dr. Schmidt worked with me for 2 months to get my prescription just right ... and my near and far vision is crystal clear with my new hard lenses that I have begged others to give back to me (I have astigmatism)... i went to the Levenson Eye Group, Dr, Smithwick fora Second opinion after a traumatic eye injury, and I am so very pleased! I was given every courtesy and a thorough exam, and the evaluation of my condition and the minor surgery to come were such a huge relief! Dr. McDonald did my cataract surgery. Then Covid happened and I never received my post cataract appointment and measurements to obtain eyeglasses. Today I attempted to receive my post cataract appointment and they demanded insurance; which I have but I don't appreciate liars. I am loyal to honesty and when someone shows me their dishonesty, I avoid them; forever. My Wife and children were patients as they will also avoid dishonesty. If you choose to do business here; I recommend you get everything in writing; which I have and I was still disrespected. I will pay an honest Optometrist where I can trust what I receive. After discussing with Dr. Levenson that "Local" aneth. does not work on me and I'd need to be put to sleep-- I assumed he fully understood. 3 weeks later on the day of surgery, I am told that I'd be sedated but not fully asleep. After having a heated discussion with Dr. Levenson and his staff, the procedure was cancelled. I must also make note that his nurse was rude. I wasted a "day off" from work . read more

My mom has been a patient here for years, so when my uncle needed an annual exam for his cataracts I recommended Levenson. I was able to schedule both he and my mom for an appointment close to the same time. Awesome, I think, because he can also drive her to the appointment for me. This was my mistake in trusting they would treat someone right without being closely watched. When I called to make the appointment, they asked for my uncle's insurance information and verified he could go there. I actually asked so there wouldn't be wasted time. Well, guess what? He gets there and all of a sudden they don't take his insurance and they will need to charge him over $500. To make matters worse, they lost his Medicare card and did nothing to assist him in getting it replaced. This, my friends, is how Levenson seems to treat their senioor patients when left to their own devices. After this experience I thought back to another time when I had to leave my mom in the office and they charged her for a vision prescription she did NOT need. Fool me once, fool me twice... I will say that we have been happy with Dr. McDonald. However, if the administrative staff are so careless that also impacts the doctor's reputation. read more

Dr McDonald did both of my cataract surgeries. He and his staff are the best very professional at all levels, surgery, office tech, billing, scheduling, reception, all of it. I searched out a new surgeon because my eye doc of 7 yrs was unrealistically expensive. I am so glad i changed to Levinson. Dr. Levenson is outstanding! No pressure to buy some service you don't need. Very professional and gives you all the information you need to make an informed decision about what to have done. His cataract surgery is smooth and quick and you get a personal call that evening from Dr. Levenson to see how you are feeling. We decided to wait six months before I had my eyes done. When I had the first done it went so well I did the other eye the next week. Wow! What a difference. I went for distance vision and now see 20/20. The doctor did not pressure me to upgrade to the fancy lenses for both distance and close up. Now I just use reading glasses. I could have had one eye distance and one near and your brain seems to compensate for the difference- but my nearsightedness is so mild, plus it's a bit freaky sounding to have one of each. Anyway I'm a happy camper and see great! Dr. Levenson gives back to the community with a number of free surgeries to people who are desperately in need each year- very nice writ-up in the Jax paper about a really nice guy. Had two cataract surgeries done by Dr. McDonald. He and his surgical staff were phenomenal. Five star for them. However, the billing office leaves much to be desired. While always pleasant to speak with, I have had to keep on top of them for a refund due me for a substantial amount of money (at least to me). They were VERY quick to require that I pay "my portion" up front before the surgery, but are going at a snails pace to return my over-payment to me. So far about a month and counting and still no refund. read more
