Barrels of good times to be had here…read more Everything is barrel strength at Whiskey Thief, so the five sample tasting is quite the gauntlet. I found the high proof points to be draining, and so I can't recommend buying a bottle with my own money. The chocolates are a must pairing. Service, however, is super chill and friendly. The bar is a chill place to hang out afterwards, and the bitter blend for their Old Fashioned is stellar. I also bought a couple bars of soap. Earthy and aromatic!

One of the things they offered in this distillery was a chance to tap right into a whiskey barrel for a flight of 5 different barrels. This was a really cool option but I knew I had a long day and evening ahead of me so I did not give it a try but definitely will be back to give it a go. They also had a chocolate pairing you could purchase with a selection for each barrel. They had a nice little gift shop and we perused what they had to offer and purchased a Glencairn glass for our collection at home. We sat down at the bar to order our cocktails. Valentine's Day (my birthday) had just passed a couple weeks prior and they still had their V-Day special on the menu so I ordered that cocktail. My cocktail was the Crushed Velvet, Whiskey Thief Bourbon, Creme de Cacao, Vanilla liqueur, Luxardo juice, chocolate bitters, and egg whites. It was a fine cocktail although not my favorite of the day. The hubby ordered a Maple Smoked Manhattan which had Whiskey Thief Bourbon, sweet vermouth, bitters, and maple syrup and he said he enjoyed it. Sitting at the bar was nice because they had a huge window open to the outside and you could feel the warmth of the day and a slight breeze. We will definitely be back to try the barrel flight and the chocolate pairing. Nice little place.

We love city tours. Walking tours, bike tours, food tours, bus tours. With limited time in a city,…read morethey're a great way to get a feel for the area and to pick out places you'd like to revisit. Heck, we've even taken tours in our own city! Very fun. This tour was no exception. We had a very enjoyable afternoon, got to see a lot of different things, learn a bit about the history of Louisville, and try some delicious foods. The format of this tour is as such: the bus drops you off at a location for 30-60 minutes, giving you time to explore while City Taste runs off to pick up food from a local eatery. When you get back on the bus, there's a taste (and a drink) to be eaten as you drive on to the next stop. The benefit of this is that you get to experience AND taste bits of Louisville, instead of one or the other. The drawback is that there is sometimes a bit of waiting around for the bus to return. On our tour, we stopped at Schimpffs candy shop, Churchill Downs (where we took a tour), Old Louisville, Louisville Slugger OR NULU (we were given an option), and the Belle of Louisville. Our favorite stop was Old Louisville by far. What a BEAUTIFUL area with such rich history! The food we had was fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, hot brown pizza, pulled pork and potato salad, and Derby Pie. All were delicious, but the particular favorites were the hush puppies and the hot brown pizza. Alongside came a variety of drinks... we weren't huge fans of the flavored beers and wines (vanilla, strawberry, etc.) but we liked the bourbon tastings, the bourbon coffee, and the mint julep at the end. For reference, the food quantity was enough to keep us mostly satisfied but not amounting to a full meal replacement. I wouldn't eat a huge lunch before you go, but I also wouldn't show up hungry. City Taste Tours was extremely accommodating and gracious to our family. I realize these tours aren't geared toward kids specifically, but they went out of their way to make it enjoyable for everyone on board. If you're looking for a tour that's a bit of everything, a "taste" of all tours, this is the one for you. It's quirky, fun, and a great way to spend an afternoon in Louisville. **One last thing I'd mention: we booked a private tour, mostly because we just didn't want to take away from anyone else's experience by bringing 6 kids along. We were surprised to find out after being picked up that the bus was picking up other riders as well. It honestly worked out TOTALLY fine - it was a great couple that came along with us - but I just mention this to warn someone who actually cares a lot about it being a private tour... you might want to double check that they don't somehow overlook your private reservation and add extra people to your group.

Becoming an executive bourbon steward has been on my bucket list for a bit. So happy that I was…read morefinally able to do this! I attended the executive bourbon steward class at Moonshine University on Friday. It was a day filled with bourbon, bourbon science, bourbon tasting, bourbong smelling, bourbon history and more. While I know I have much more still to learn, this class left me feeling like I can make my way through a bourbon tasting -- even creating a tasting flight of my own! -- and talk about bourbon like I know something about it. And more than anything, it left me with even more appreciation for Kentucky's native spirit. The day started with a tasting and that set the tone for the rest of the day, which included classroom time and time in the miniature distillery that's connected to the classroom. Each student also took home a sensory kit with 30+ smells to learn so that we can better pick them out during a tasting. This was my favorite part of the whole experience. It's much harder to pick out something like banana (even though we've smelled and tasted them hundreds of time) than you think, much less more complex smells like leather. I liked how our instructor talked about assigning a sensory memory to each so that we can remember them more easily. Maybe it was the bourbon we had enjoyed that day so far, but I feel like about halfway through the sensory section I could start to better pick out these scents and flavors. And our instructor, Colin, kept everything informative and entertaining. You can tell how much passion he has for bourbon and was engaging throughout the day. The facility is great in that it has the classroom and distillery right next to each other. The executive bourbon steward program has a hefty pricetag, but if you have the means and passion I would definitely encourage it. I'm honored to now be a member of the Stave & Thief Society.

Absolutely loved this place, the course and the people who put it together…read more I must say I didn't really know what to expect at a place like "Moonshine U". But these guys have professionally put together a wonderful curriculum that would teach a monkey how to make booze. And it's much more than that. This place really has an all star cast of teachers and speakers, all very willing to help any one out. All the speakers had decades of experience in the industry. Most of which Wer enjoyable to listen to. But I can't stress enough that if your thinking about going into the spirits industry, educate yourself. If your wondering where to go, look no further. Moonshine U lays it on thick in all the right places. Branding, business, finance, blending and mixing, and much much more. And the best part is they really know what theyr talking about. The speakers talk from honest trials and tribulations through their own experiences. I cant say enough how wonderful these people are. Truly delightful people here. I made some wonderful contacts and learned so much, I definitely got my money's worth. Not to mention all of the food was delicious. They were not skimpy in any way what so ever. Seriously folks, this place changed my life. In business and personally. I thank you all at Moonshine University for giving me the opportunity at a better chance in the spirit industry. Till next time, Cheers!
