Wrap me up in this burrito everyday... the sequel!…read more As we knew we'd be driving through Childress, we planned our timing around making sure we could stop here for breakfast. Again, we opted for the combination burrito which had sausage, chorizo, bacon, potatoes, cheese and beans all wrapped up in a HOMEMADE tortilla. The tortilla is one of my favorite parts as it's chewy, soft texture and slightly earthy, mildly sweet taste complements the filling to a T. You have the option of red or green (or both) salsas on the side. They are smaller containers of salsa so I'd get two of the kind you want. Fair warning, the green is a one-two-punch with heat! Again, it was BURRITO-FUL! As I stated in my first review, the staff is just the kindest! We had a great little convo with them before being handed our breakfast burritos. (: It's still the best road trip stop we've found! Can't wait to visit again... and again... and AGAIN!

My search for quality Mexican breakfast in Plainview is over. El Girasol is the place. Some months…read moreback I come here but was half an hour past their close and made it a point to come in the next time I was passing through town The location is just near the Amigos grocer on the north side of town. It's a small dated building with ten or so tables. When I came in there only one table taken and it seemed they were finishing up. The individual who I presume is the owner greeted me and followed me to the table of my choosing. Before proceeding further, I asked the most important question for a Mexican eatery, 'Do you make your own tortillas?'. I was very pleased to hear that they do. As he went to get my beverage I scanned the menu. The menu is in Spanish and English, I made it just before close but hadn't had breakfast yet What I wanted wasn't on the menu so when he returned I explained what I was wanting to eat and if they could accommodate my request. I requested 'migas rancheras' but got 'migas a la mexicana' and it was absolutely delicious despite not being exactly what I requested. It seems even in the same town one Mexican spot calls it different from the other so I accepted that it was as close as I would get to what I wanted Took around ten minutes for the food to be delivered to my table. It came with homefries, bacon, and two beautifully cooked flour tortillas. I enjoyed every bite and just had to request a couple extra tortillas. The homefries could have used a tad more time to crisp up but were still fully cooked through and the bacon was cooked just right. The tortillas were soft, fluffly, and had wonderful flavour. The total was just under nine dollars, was and still is the best Mexican breakfast I've had this year. I will be returning here every chance I get

The parking lot was completely full but I found one space to park in. As we got to the door, several groups of people came out and we were able to get a table in a few (like 3) minutes. Leslie J got us started with chips, salsa, & cold draft beer. We ordered the Chef Plate and the chicken mole. My wife said the mole was good and a little sweet (every Chef makes it a little different). My beef relleno, cheese enchilada, & guacamole we're excellent. The decor is pretty average Mexican restaurant decor: bright colors, flowers, paintings, etc. An escape. I'll be back next time I'm in town. And I found out there are 5 more locations.

The crust batter on outside is so different, and the cheese sauce on top makes it unique. You can have a cheese Chili Relleno as an option if you don't like ground beef. The Avocado Relleno has the option of chicken or beef. It's worth checking to see if serving when you drive by. Only serves dinner currently.
