This spring trip break with my girlfriends, I just want to try something new, something small and we foudn Rocca Family Vineyards. Since they just moved their tasting room to this new beautiful Victorian house off of hwy 29, I thought we were driving to Dexter's house. There's no sign, no way anyone would have know this is the tasting room. Well, we later find out that they are not officially open to the public yet till next month. This beautiful home got renovated nicely. We got invited in by John, he was tall, nice, and passionate about what he does here at Rocca Family Vineyards. He poured us generously wines that we can remember. For $30, you got to taste estate wines which most of the wineries around Napa, you have to pay the arm and leg for it. Rocca Family Vineyards only produces red, their pride is Cabernet Sauvignon and they were all quite good. My GF Tara loves the 2008 Merlot Grigsby Vineyard, Napa Valley; while my other GF Karla loves the 2008 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Grigsby Vineyard, Napa; my FAV was the 2007 "Bad Boy" Red Blend, Yountville a Bordeaux style blend - However, we all agree on the 2007 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Collinetta Vineyard was the winner of all. I ended up order 2 cases to share with my friends at Sent Sovi Wine Lounge on Wednesdays. So if you want a taste of this 2007 "Bad Boy" Red Blend, Yountville; come by Sent Sovi Wine Lounge, you will be happy, I promise! Their wines run from $32 to $90, reasonable and well loved. We all enjoyed our experience very much and looking forward to return on our next trip. He shared the winery's rich history in such an engaging way and made our tasting feel personal rather than rehearsed. Rob was a huge part of what made our visit so memorable. We especially loved learning that Bouchaine is the oldest continuously operating winery in Carneros and sits along the southern edge of Napa Valley, overlooking the beautiful vineyards near San Pablo Bay. We were also impressed to learn about the remarkable women helping lead the winery: proprietor and president Tatiana Copeland and president and winemaker Chris Kajani. The setting is gorgeous. We relaxed on the beautiful patio, surrounded by vineyards, and enjoyed the peaceful Carneros scenery while tasting some exceptional wines. It feels tucked away from the busier parts of Napa Valley, which makes the experience even more special. Rob also told us about the new wine cave currently being built into the hillside. The tour in 2026 only went to 3 wineries. Two were just ok and one was not good. I don't think anyone on our tour purchased anything here. The time at each winery was like a typical tasting with some information on their winery. But no real information on Sonoma and Napa and the history of the area. At the end our driver had no clue on our discount and kept telling me he would get in trouble for charging me less. He insinuated I was making it all up. In the end he did honor the discount but seemed he did it as a favor not that it was a program that Platypus participates in. All in all I was disappointed in this wine tour and would no go on a platypus tour again and would not recommend them. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day.
