As mentioned in other reviews, there's not a whole lot to do within Perth, so it was nice to find this museum on a day of exploring. It's pretty grand when you walk in, and has various rooms tucked away. Loads of Perth history as well as a pretty neat glass collection towards the entrance. There was also a room of the local rocks and animals, which was fun. We were able to listen to the sounds various animals in the area might make. Towards the end of exploring the museum, they had a room of kids art displayed which was nice. I like it when museums, schools and businesses display kids art. Gives me hope for the artists of the future. Nice place to check out if you're in Perth and looking for a bit of knowledge on it's history.

There was a bit of a line to get in, but was moving fast. Carpark is close to the palace and included in your entrance fee (for the grounds only or the combo with the palace). At the time we visited there was a happening going on. Some fitness celebrity meeting kids and parents. Along with a "Mini" promotion. A long line for both of that...but no bother for us. No line for the palace, which we were interested in. It is worth going inside. The history of the Scone Palace is long and colourful. As the centre of the Scottish realm, Scone became the focus of struggles for power. Macbeth and his mortal enemy, Malcolm, whose father had been killed by MacBeth's forces, both ruled here in the 11th century. I'm very much hooked on the history of Scotland, especially the history of Robert The Bruce. In 1306, Robert the Bruce was dramatically crowned here with the blood of his rival, Red Comyn, whom he had killed in a church, still fresh on his hands. There's too much to tell about Scones history here. Best to read it or come visit. In 1803, the 3rd Earl of Mansfield began rebuilding the medieval house as a gothic palace. The Mansfield family continue to live here today, preserving the Palace of Scone and its surrounding estate as a unique living testament to Scotland's heritage. It has very interesting rooms and exhibits and helpful staff with more information. Really worth a visit. The grounds are wonderful. There are busier areas like the Stone of Scone and the chapel. And then the small but tricky Murray Star Maze (big fun). If you head south from the maze, you will find a nice little trail that makes a circle (across the street) back to the palace. Pretty, easy and very empty and quiet. We - and our Bulldog - loved it. Souvenir shops, restaurant, toilets. All on the grounds as well. All in all a very nice visit. Perfect to learn more about Scotlands history and to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet on the grounds.

As we came in the Winter off-season we didn't have the opportunity to go inside since they weren't giving tours. Even with that fact, it was still so scenic and so magical that it was still worth the stop. I guess since it was free admission to just walk around that is okay too! After a hazy, rainy morning the skies opened up and a rainbow appeared over the castle. We couldn't believe our eyes the sight of this beauty. The photo I took doesn't even begin to do it justice. The grounds were pristine and we loved seeing the highland cattle with their long mops of hair covering their eyes. I would love to come back when I can actually see the interior as I'm sure it'd be beautiful as well.

My bf is a huge transport fan so it was yesterday on a sunny sunday that we found ourselves taking…read morea drive out here on one of their running days. The museum is open every sunday but when you have a running day it means you can get a chance to go a wee ride on some of the vintage buses. Entry is £7 per adult and includes access to the bus rides. There were loads of really well maintained vintage buses there and it was fun to go out on them and get a wee tour of the fife countryside. Most of the staff that work there are volunteers and are happy to explain the history behind all of the vehicles. If you are into collecting models of buses,trains etc theres a big indoor space with a good variety of stalls to browse and my bf assured me that the prices were really reasonable. Lots of public toilets and a cafe and the usual burger van selling hot food etc. Whilst this is not somewhere i would go usually I actually quite enjoyed it and my bf did too.

Right, so I was in charge of finding a place. To be honest, there's not much Yelp help in Perth, but I did find this place, which seemed reasonable (and cheap), and could probably take the six to eight of us who were going to go to lunch. (As the location I tried before was unlikely to be able to fit us all in). The pub is very nice! It seems like it's not really going to be there, but all of a sudden you happen upon it. It's also a pub that does table service. Which is a bit odd, but also kind of nice when you're waiting for people. Four people had pies (fish, steak and ale, and chicken and ham) and they all really seemed to like them. The other half and someone else had the Balmoral chicken (chicken with bacon and haggis), and they both raved about it. I had the tex-mex burger (a chili burger with onion rings, cheese, and a spicy sauce), and I was very impressed with how spicy everything was (one of my pet peeves is seeing "spicy" on the menu and the food not being at all spicy). The pub itself is quite spacious and has an outdoor seating area (if that's your thing, which in November, it's definitely NOT my thing). If we're back up for the band competition next year, we may have to stop in again.

We decided to make a night of it one night, and ordered food and drinks while waiting for a band to play. We were able to book a table and asked to be seated close enough to the stage so that we could enjoy the band. The band of the night was a band called Tunna (pronounced Ton-a) who were a Celtic band. My boyfriend is pretty particular about his music, but we quite enjoyed ourselves, even though we only stayed for half the set. It was a really loud set up, and we decided the next time we make our way to Perth and happen upon this place, we'll ask to be sat a bit farther away. The food was pretty spot on. We ordered some chicken wings to start which were absolutely delicious and it came with the best BBQ sauce I'd ever had. I meant to ask what kind it was, but forgot. For the mains, he ordered a burger with haggis on it, which came with chips and I ordered the gourmet chili dog, without jalapenos which also came with chips. We also ordered onion rings to share, which I thought were pretty gross. They reminded me of the frozen ones you can get out of Morrisons that are basically minced onion in a battered ring. Yick. All in all, the staff was pretty amazing. Very tentative and waited on us at our tables. That's the first time I'd ever been in to a pub and had table service. We had two different people wait on us, and it was pretty great. They had one of my favourite ciders available (spiced apple) and we also had a voucher for a fiver off, just for joining their email on their website. There is an outdoor patio area with loads of seating for eating and drinking. Pretty great once the weather gets a bit warmer! If we're ever in Perth again, I'm sure we'd stop back by Twa Tams! Yes, this place offers so much too so many! Inside, the building is warmly decorated making its enormity seem meagre. It has a cafe and the theatre can hold a couple of thousand people. The theatre is like all other traditional theatres but has been updated over the years so more events can be put on. My main memory of this place was when I went to see the Singing Kettle when I was younger! It was sold out, very noisy and I did not particularly enjoy it! Well, maybe theatre would have been better!

It still has very good pantomimes at christmas and does show movies from time to time to which tend to be re-runs of classics which I think is a good idea, giving kids and adults alike a chance to see great movies once again on the big screen.

I used wifi in the parking lot, walked around the grounds and even got to sneak inside (as I usually do at the smaller grounds, and it's not too hard. That's what she said). It's a decent new stadium (new-ish, opened in the late 80s), and I took pictures and imagined what it would be like to see STJ play here at some point. One of these days, I will. I'll be back here, that's for sure. I think if the stadium gets upgraded and expanded it will be more likely to be a four star, though. It just looked a little small and incomplete when you get in there. So when I was doing my first tour of Scotland in 2011, I also hit up every single stadium in the country. My obsession with footy (soccer to Americans) is the reason. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are based on first-hand personal experience, usually from multiple visits. We weren't really sure what to expect, but when we walked in, there were about 8 men standing around the bar with one guy behind the bar. I'm always a little intimidated walking in to a pub I don't know, that kinda looks like it would be an old mans pub, being a woman, it's just not something I do. But with my boyfriend by my side, I can do anything but walking in to Auld Hoose, I felt the most comfortable I've felt walking in to a pub in a long time. The guy behind the bar was super friendly, served us our drinks and was very chatty with the patrons. He was cracking jokes with everyone and it just had an overall feel of being part of something. This pub was definitely my favourite out of all the pubs we went in to while in Perth. It had the feel the mix of Ben Nevis in Finneston and Three Judges in Partick. All wood, loads of windows, sports on the TV and loads of old mirrored signs about the place. Definitely a must see if you're in Perth, we will for sure be back next time we're in town.

The highlight of the whole visit was the silent disco included in the extortionate Night Fever club culture exhibition and the equally extortionate gift shop. Despite this I really enjoyed the exhibition learning about raves, techno music and studio 54 and all the interesting audio and visual exhibits was fantastic but apart from that, there really isn't anything else to comment on. I expected more of a WOW factor and I didn't get that unfortunately.

I have to say though, I was a bit disappointed with the use of space inside. The vast atrium takes up most of the building, which means there are really only two main exhibition spaces; one of these housing the temporary (paid) exhibitions, the other the more permanent exhibits. The temporary exhibit on ocean liners was really great; we loved seeing the history of (mostly) Scottish shipbuilding, and there was a good selection of artefacts illustrating just how sumptuous and decadent some of these grand liners were - although once it got past the 1930's I mostly lost interest (I was never a fan of 70's design at the time and I'm still not!). We particularly liked the video wall recreating an ocean view off the deck with renowned ships like the QE2 sailing past (good photo opp!). Of the other exhibition, the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Oak Room was the main attraction for us, and the main reason we came. But it felt like the rest of it should have been about three times the size it actually was. We actually spent some time looking around for a third gallery that isn't there. The restaurant on the top floor had a reasonable menu, but the prices were rather on the expensive side so we gave it a miss. The cafe on the ground floor didn't draw us either so we went elsewhere for lunch. The whole visit took us two and a half hours. It was worth a look, but apart from the architecture, we found it slightly underwhelming.
