I have tried to write this review so many times over the last decade but its so difficult to put into a writing the impact Dr. Machado has had. Dr Machado performed a double jaw surgery on me in 2012 - thirteen years ago. I really haven't been able to put into words that he completely changed my entire life. I cannot express enough gratitude and thanks for being able to live the last 13 years happy with my face, after hating looking in the mirror for my entire life prior. Dr Machado is the single most pivotal person in my life after my family. No longer having my appearance be a daily negative factor in my life is best gift I could have ever received. Dr. Machado and his office fought hard for my parents to get the surgery approved through insurance, made a critical last minute decision to go for double jaw surgery instead of having to do two as originally planned, which was so amazing. He was available during my after care and I always felt like I was in good hands and that he was available should I ever need him... which I did a couple years later. My favorite experience was a year or so later when I came back in to get a screw removed - Dr Machado looked at my face and said something to the effect of "I could lowered the top teeth slightly more" - which is something I had considered in passing. I am more than thrilled with my face, its an absolute success by every measure and by any other doctor would be considered 'perfect' - but I am even more appreciative that Dr. Machado cares down the millimeters and scrutinizes your face just as much or more as you do. He is a true artist and a perfectionist. When you undergo this type of surgery you need to have someone you can trust with your appearance, especially in the trying times when you have to wait months to a year for the final result. Dr. Olin and Dr. Machado performed a bone graft and dental implant placement for me. My first surgical procedure, scheduled before COVID-19, still occurred in June 2020 (with the whole process wrapping up in July 2021 as expected). The entire team was communicative and friendly, answered all my questions, and took all the necessary precautions related to operating in a global pandemic. I felt extremely safe throughout the process and various procedures performed and would recommend Dr. Olin (now that Dr. Machado has retired) to anyone looking for an oral surgeon. So I had to get my wisdom teeth removed, so I was looking around for a good dentist. And needless to say I've heard all the wonderful horror stories of wisdom teeth removal gone awry, So I was really paranoid about finding a good dentist. I'm really glad I came here! Dr. Machado is really awesome! He was really nice, explained everything, made sure I wasn't too freaked out or anything. And the people who work in his office are really awesome too. They're all really nice. And I think they knew I was a little nervous when I was in the chair waiting. They joked with me, jokingly offered me sedatives and to knock me out. All the tech in their office is really new too. Overall it was a really good experience. The wisdom teeth removal itself went smoothly, nothing went wrong, it all healed great. No problems. No dry socket! (was most worried about this) They were really nice at my follow up too when they were teaching me how to clean out the holes in my teeth. I would definitely recommend coming here. I was recommended to Dr. Machado from my regular dentist to get some serious oral surgery done. I must say I was able to make an appointment in a timely manner by a very friendly staff member. Everyone goes above and beyond to be kind, make sure you're comfortable and most importantly to make sure you are fully educated and prepared for whatever you may be going to him for. From the first day of scheduling my appointment via over the phone, they have been extremely helpful, kind, and easy to reach. They are an extremely office, so make sure you leave a voicemail if they don't answer the phone--they call you back as quickly as possible and leave a voice message as well. I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed and the surgery went very well. The office is very proactive-- they have give you a list of instructions to do before surgery because come on, who wants to go to the pharmacy or Walmart right after having their wisdom teeth removed. This review is long overdue, but I saw Dr. Machado in February 2016 to have my 5 (YES, 5!) impacted wisdom teeth removed. I put off having my teeth pulled for the better part of a decade and was extremely nervous about potential long term nerve damage as a result of severe impaction on my one side of my face. After going to consultations with 3 other oral surgeons, Dr. Machado was the clear choice - he goes the extra mile to make his patients feel comfortable about the process and takes as much time as needed to thoroughly explain and answer any questions. The surgery itself was unremarkable and went very smoothly. As someone who doesn't tolerate anesthesia very well, Dr. Machado prescribed meds for me to take before the surgery (and something to take the edge off the night before!) which helped considerably. His staff are also great and made me feel at ease throughout. One minute I was in the chair with an IV in my arm answering questions about my beloved fur babies....and the next thing I remember is being in the car asking my husband if we could stop for a breakfast burrito on the way home (Much to my dismay, the answer was no) I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Machado and his staff - I highly recommend him for anyone in need of an excellent oral surgeon. read more

I was referred to Dr. Machado by my dentist. I wanted to remove my last wisdom tooth (lower impacted). I had been told by dentists and oral surgeons that my roots are very close to a nerve and that I should have the tooth monitored until I decide to have it extracted. I waited a long time because I was worried about long-term or permanent tingling or numbness. My dentist mentioned that Dr. Machado could perform a coronectomy which would leave my roots intact and hopefully prevent any of the nerve damage that a typical extraction could cause me. So, I went to Dr. Machado to learn more. My consultation went smoothly and I felt reassured by Dr. Machado's explainations. I asked him about any studies on the technique and I appreciated how he tailored his response for my curiosity. At home, I was even able to skim through some research articles about coronectomies (I was only interested in the results and discussion sections, haha). It was the same as he had said, but they had some cool pictures. I felt comfortable before and after the surgery. In the past, I had a surgery elsewhere where I had a painful and bloody recovery due to nausea before we even left the parking lot. I shared this with Dr. Machado during my consultation and they made sure to prescribe me an anti-nausea drug to take home and in my IV as well. Needless to say, I was a lot more relaxed this time around. (Also, don't forget to get your parking validated by them!) The surgery went well. I only have little root tips left behind in my jaw. To correct a collection of bone deformities, Dr. Machado completely restructured my face 20 years ago, realigning both my upper and lower jaw in a surgical procedure that lasted seven hours on the operating table, five days in the hospital, and a year of at-home recovery. This was a -major- undertaking, with very real risks of permanent nerve damage, ongoing pain, and dissatisfaction with the look of the final product (which was my -face-, by the way). You better believe that I did my homework; I consulted with over a dozen oral surgeons before I selected Dr. Machado. I liked his educational background, his certifications, his reputation in the medical community, and what the hospital staff had to say about him. I even went so far as to interview five former patients, all of whom were very pleased with his work. The recuperation went as well as could be expected for something so major (and icky). Dr. Machado did the best he could to prepare me mentally for the process (really, how can a 20-year-old wrap her brain around the concept of being swollen for a -year-?). He was friendly, kind, and generally pretty darn awesome, and I will always be appreciative. Now, 20 years later, my face is completely bilaterally symmetrical, pain-free, and there's been no permanent nerve damage. This office is great! I was looking for a dentist that was affordable for students, but also good at what they do. I found Dr. Machado's office on Yelp and from recommendation from a co-worker. I highly recommend this place if you are a student like myself without dental insurance! They also gave me a discount b/c I didn't have dental insurance! They offer free CT scan of your mouth for the wisdom teeth through Yelp as well as a coupon if you buy it on here. The office was nicely decorated and the whole staff was welcoming and professional. After I had the CT scan, which was like 1 minute, they show you the image on a TV screen. Then I watched a video about wisdom teeth and Dr. Machacho discusses what I should have done (he is really nice and does not make you feel pressured!) After that, we went over questions I had and I was good to go. On the day of the procedure, it actually took ~45 minutes to an hour (I had 3 taken out with anesthesia). I had no pain at all and am very happy! Definitely recommend this office for wisdom teeth removal!!! read more

Of all the Doctors and surgeons I have ever seen Dr Machado is not only the most skilled but also the kindest. It's incredibly rare to find a surgeon who genuinely cares about you and your recovery. I had been looking for the right place to have 4 of my teeth extracted that offered sedation. (I wanted to be completely asleep) See, my current dentist doesn't offer that. In fact, they chuckled when I asked for that. When I was a toddler, I had to have ALL of my teeth extracted due to baby bottle tooth decay. I'm not sure if they attempted to sedate me or have me under laughing gas - but needless to say, it failed. I felt every tooth being pulled and remember screaming so loud that the dentist got aggravated with me. Traumatizing. That's why finding the right oral surgeon was so important to me. I need somewhere to feel completely comfortable. Dental and orthodontist offices scare me enough, eek. The place wasn't hard to find, though I suggest taking your parking ticket inside for validation. I stupidly didn't think of taking mine inside and was charged $1. The front desk woman, Veronica, was sweet and helped me fill out all that was required for my consultation. Eric (who I assume is one of the dental assistants) kindly informed me on the before / after care of my procedure. He knows his stuff. And, the man of the hour - Dr. Machado! He was simply warm-hearted. He made me feel very cared for in the office. I'm sure he has taken care of many other patients such as myself, who all have anxiety with anything pertaining to teeth. He was informative and explained everything to a "t". I'm so glad I found his office through Yelp. You have to imagine that for an dentist, much less an oral surgeon, to get five stars, something must be going right. I was referred to Dr. Machado with a cracked molar that needed to come out. Having had my wisdom teeth taken out by the military, I was prepared for the worst. On my several visits for this procedure, I never waiting more than :10 minutes which is a great improvement over most medical appointments when you're told to arrive at a certain time only to wait an hour. Dr. Machado and his staff did a great job explaining the full procedure. The wrap-around X-ray was the fanciest I've seen but even better, the image on the uber-large computer screen really help understand exactly what was going to happen. Lastly, even though this is a fairly busy practice, I felt like I had Dr. Machado's complete attention when meeting with him to discuss what we were going to do. I never felt rushed or ignored, also refreshing. I sure wish the Marine Corps referred me to a doctor like this when the wisdom teeth came out. I had the remaining 3 of my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Machado. My first experience, over 10 years ago, was pretty horrendous. Dr. Machado was nothing short of excellent. Being an extremely anxious person when it comes to anything dental-related, Dr. Machado put my mind at ease by explaining the procedure during the consultation, and discussing the details of the anesthesia and aftercare. I had four of my wisdom teeth removed, two were impacted. The surgery went by quickly and smoothly. I was a little anxious before, but Dr. Machado and his team went above and beyond to make me feel better, calm, and relaxed. Of course the first few days are painful but not as painful as I imagined it would be. Numbness was gone the night of surgery, and swelling was not that bad. It barely showed for me! First I would like to say that the bad review on Dr. Machado MUST be a mistake, there is no way that she and I had seen the same Dr. I do not have a bad thing to say about my entire visit. The worst thing I can think of was that I had a little trouble finding the office itself, but once I was in there the office was extremely clean and modern. All of the equipment was up to date and the exam room felt like an exam room, spotless, and it even had a nice view! The other great aspect was all of the staff, you could tell that everyone actually enjoyed doing what they do. They all were friendly and even took a personal interest in who I was. Dr. Machado and I talked restaurants and he gave me some great advice on being new to the city. But also everyone gave me great advice on how to recover quickly and painlessly. I even left with a bag filled with just about everything I needed to recover from an ice pack, to a gel to help bruising and swelling, to a protein shake to take with my medicine. It was amazing, i honestly can say I have never been treated so well in similar situations. The best and most surprising part was that this morning just one day after getting my tooth pulled I received a call from his office asking how I was doing? Finally a doctor that didn't forget about me as soon as I paid the bill! Which leads me to another great aspects, I have never experienced in any sort of medical office is that they were very upfront and reasonable on the price of the visit. First of all, let me tell you how gorgeous the offices and waiting room are. From the moment I entered until completion of my procedure, I felt comforted in knowing I was in the hands of a top notch, world renowed Maxillofacial surgeon. My surgery went quickly and I was sedated which calmed my anxiety. I woke up in the recovery room with the nurse and my husband by my side. Making the appointment was a breeze. Dr. Machado met with me and we discussed my treatment options. It was decided that fully removing my top two wisdom teeth while removing only 90% of my bottom two wisdom teeth would be the safest and most fruitful approach. Apparently this kind of partial tooth removal is called a coronectomy - who knew! I would recommend getting the surgery done on a Friday so you can take advantage of the friendly anesthesiologist that comes in on that day. I got a combo of laughing gas, general anesthesia and Novocaine and I didn't feel or remember any part of my procedure. Recovery is the least fun part of the whole procedure but it's not too bad because they give you lots of advice and equipment on your way out the door. It's been a week since I parted with my wisdom teeth and I feel almost completely back to normal! 5 stars for both the immaculate operation and the hospitable staff. I was recently informed that I needed a dental implant by my dentist. I have never had an implant, and was pretty shocked to hear I had to have one now. Felt a little guilty thinking that maybe I should have been more diligent with my flossing. Anyway, my dentist gave me Dr. Machado's info and it was up to me to schedule the appointment. I did just that, and now months later have my implant and a great experience behind me. Getting an implant is a little bit of a process, and requires several appointments, but with the help of Sarah and Jane and of course Dr. Machado, I felt like I was in great hands. They really did help ease the process by their kindness and experienced personal touch.They even entertained my daughter while I was having the procedure. Dr. Machado is a very kind man. He even gave me a hug goodbye when he knew it was my last visit with him. The office is located in Hillcrest. On the corner of 5th and Washington. It is really easy to get to. They also validate parking. Any type of dental work is unsettling, but if you want great care AND excellent results, you have to see Dr. Machado! I have done my wisdom tooth extraction here. The experience was excellent. Dr. Machado is very professional and skillful. The entire process from he picking up the tool to extract my tooth to finishing the surgery only took 10 seconds. Smooth and sweet. Not much pain. I did not know that I was that lucky until talking with my friend afterward who told me that her dentist spent half an hour messing around in her mouth to extract a tooth and the wound had been swelling for a week after the surgery. They were amazed by how quickly I was recovering and how normal that my face looked like. Today is my fourth day after the operation. I do not have much bleeding after the first day and has minimal swelling that my friend could barely notice when we handed out yesterday. The wound is recovering smoothly. I am following the doctor's instruction to take the pill regularly to prevent infection. So far so good! On last Friday, the nurse from Dr. Machado's office even called me to check-in and see if everything is doing ok. They are very caring! One last thing, the price of this operation is very reasonable. Dr.Machado has a very high consultant rate, but in terms of the wisdom teeth surgery itself, it is actually 100$ cheaper than another dentist I have consulted in San Francisco. Ignore everything I just say about the money if you are in Delta dental PPO because the insurance covers 90% of them and you just need to pay a tiny to get all the thing done! In summary, Dr. Machado is a very professional and skillful dentist. His can conduct the wisdom teeth extraction operation in a smooth and fast fashion. Not much pain throughout the entire process and you will recover very quickly. The team is very caring and thoughtful in helping you recover and prevent any infections. I contacted Dr. Machado's office through email regarding a wisdom tooth extraction. The office responded promptly and they were able to set up an appointment right away. They had a special for a free consultation and a 3D CT Scan, which was a huge help, since I was not insured at the time. I went in on a Wednesday and the staff was friendly and everyone made me feel welcomed and safe. Dr. Machado and his staff were very thorough in explaining the steps and complications of an extraction, which put me at ease. After reviewing the scan, Dr. Machado made one extraction on a partially erupted and compacted tooth which was infected. He was very honest and discussed all of my financial options.I was nervous, but Dr. Machado and his amazing staff made sure I was comfortable. There was no pain and I was in the chair less than 20 minutes. I was in and out of the office in less than an hour. I highly recommend Dr.Machado and his office for any oral surgery needs. He gave me so much information for pre-procedure to make sure healing and recovery was simple. When he recommended Arnica I knew he was the real deal. I was recently referred to Dr.Machado by my daughter's primary care physician to treat an issue with her jaw. I called the office and left a message in July 2, 2020. I did not receive a call back. Called again today, July 6, 2020, only to have reception tell me they are changing their contract, they don't treat my daughters issue and don't take my insurance-- funny because I never told them what my insurance was. So, I can only infer they did receive the referral (which is not needed for my insurance) and failed to call me back because they don't need my business. Who knew that getting a wisdom tooth extracted could be a pleasant experience? I had a wisdom tooth removed a few months ago by Dr. Machado and I don't even know how to start this review because there are so many good things I want to say. Dr Machado was very patient answering all my questions before and after the surgery. All of his staff is very nice and friendly and they make a point to remember you. Also, he is using top of the line technology such as a brand new 3D scanner machine. My wisdom tooth was highly impacted but Dr. Machado did a great job.
