Oscars Taco Shop - Inside of fish burrito

I love Mexican restaurants so I really wanted to like Oscar's, but after trying it a few times I…read moremay have to call it quits. I called in my order and ordered a fish burrito because I was traveling and wanted to get back on the road. They said I had to pay over the phone but I noticed the price was higher than the menu price on the website. I figured there may have been a price discrepancy or a to-go fee or something. When I pulled up to get my food, the cashier handed me a bowl. Somehow, she thought I wanted to order a fish burrito bowl instead of a fish burrito, after I clearly stated I wanted a fish burrito. That explained the price difference. I was in a hurry, so I was disappointed that I had to wait for them to remake my order once I got there. The burrito itself had plenty of crispy, fried fish and cabbage but the pico threw off the taste. There was a bitterness from the tomatoes that made it difficult to eat after a few bites. I tried to cover it up with their self-serve salsas, but those weren't great either. One of my favorite types of salsa is an avocado salsa, but not Oscar's. Not enough flavor and too runny. Almost all of their salsas were too runny. The burrito also contained cilantro, which i love, but it started to taste like soap towards the end. I've tried their bean and cheese burrito as well, but i wouldn't order it again. There was a lot more beans than cheese, so the ratio was off. I also had an issue ordering rolled tacos online. Under rolled tacos, there is an option for cheese-only. I ordered it and paid for it, but when I got there they were confused by what I ordered and said they don't sell cheese rolled tacos. I asked for my money back since they couldn't provide what I ordered but seem hesitant to give me my money. Even when they overcharged me by giving me the wrong order, I had to request a refund of the difference. There is 1 more item that I'd like to try on their menu, but I'm thinking that it's not worth it. Especially since there are other, more authentic restaurants in the area with better food.

We ate lunch on October 21, 2020. I ordered the Baja 'Tiger' Shrimp Tacos with their excellent…read moreChipotle Crema sauce. My wife ordered the Traditional Chimichanga with shrimp. Both came with rice and refried beans. with tea and coke, the meal total was @$22.00. The meal was GREAT. You order at the counter and they bring the order to you. Non-alcoholic drinks are self service. They do have a bar to order beer. The local COVID rules have been relaxed, but spacing was adequate and (there at lunch time) it appeared masks were worn. The shrimp tacos can be in gringo style, Baja style, Traditional style, Del Fuego style, and Diablo style. All with a slightly different mix if ingredients on the taco with the choice of shrimp, chicken or beef. I consider this the best Mexican style in the area. They have caused the other "Mexican" restaurants to change their menu. The shrimp used is Tiger Shrimp and in marinated in beer. I really like the shrimp. They have Tilapia Fish Tacos and Banana Leaf wrapped Tamales, both also are personal favorites, but I wanted 'Tiger' Shrimp Tacos! Now what makes the food so good is their variety of Salsa. They have 6 different one and if you mix a couple, it makes an even better salsa. I like the Tomatillo salsa, the regular salsa, and the chipotle salsa. Their other ones include hot and super hot salsa are EXTREMELY hot, so I stay away from them. I have seen a pinapple one in the past, but not recently. Any way they do supply chips and with the salsa...the chips are heavenly. I also put salsa on the tacos, and the addition is fabulous. It is worth the visit and it will become you go to Mexican stop.

The…read morereviews really helped seal the deal as many of the patrons took their time to describe the quality of the food and the service. I agree wholeheartedly. I was there before closing and despite that I was given time to look over the menu and ask questions. I love that I could select my proteins and starches to build my platter and a good variety of sauces were offered. I wasn't expecting the ambiance of a fast-food "joint" and bar but everything isn't always as it seems so have fun and just go with it.
