This was a big portion, but I'd only give it 2/5, simply because the sauce itself was very plain and tasted mostly like creme fraiche with a squeeze of lemon. With lots of salt and pepper it became better. Main Dish: Tartiflette au St Marcelin. If you have no idea what this is, google it now. This on was the best I've had, the bacon bits and the St. Marcelin created this gooey delight. Better in the winter, but great for a hangover. Dessert: Flan with Marrons or chestnuts and cream. Super squishy and wonderfully flavored! I definitely plan to come back. It's a cheap restaurant for some good food and a happy server.. terrace or indoors, it's definitely on my top ten.

In general, the dishes were under-seasoned, badly balanced and unimaginative. Apart from the disappointing food, the service was harried and badly coordinated. When my table had finished our mains, two tables had barely had their starters cleared away. The waiters also seemed very stressed and were inattentive. Altogether, this was an extremely disappointing restaurant experience in what I expected to be a city where one would be hard pressed to find bad food.

First, I will preface this with the following story. Despite asking my French friend to make sure the restaurant knew there were two vegetarians in the party while making our reservation, he failed to do so. However, when we arrived and the chef was told, he said it was no problem as long as we ate eggs and mushrooms. We both agreed that we did and the show went on. The chef comes to your table to explain the day's menu to you. That's pretty cool. He even speaks English so he can explain it to you in multiple languages if you ask nicely. You select an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert or cheese plate. The total cost per person is 26€. They also have apéritifs, digestifs, and wine that will, of course, raise your tab considerably. My appetizer was the vegetable soup sans whatever cephalopod was normally added at the last minute before being served. (The chef said it was like squid but not exactly the same.) This was pretty boring. I think I make a better vegetable soup at home. Next came the main course, which for us vegetarians, consisted of a lightly scrambled egg with mushrooms and fresh herbs and all the sides that the other plates received: pureed sweet potato, a turnip stuffed with a tomato and cumin mixture and some chevre, roasted red peppers, scalloped potatoes, and two blinis. The least interesting part of the meal was definitely the egg mixture as it just tasted like egg with a few herbs and chunks of mushroom. The other components were all tasty, though I felt there was too much cumin in the turnip as it bled over to all the other parts of the dish. For dessert, I chose a mango cream option served on a thin sponge cake with a raspberry sauce. This was very light and not my favorite dessert. I didn't even finish it, which is rare as I love sweets. My husband and most of the table ordered the cheese plate and seemed quite happy with it however. Maybe that's the way to go at Le Tibouren. I may be willing to try this place again later, making sure the chef is aware of my dietary choices when we make the reservation. I'm not sure if it would make a difference or not but I would certainly give them the chance. If that happens, I'll be sure to update my review.

Atmosphere - Located on a small street that was filled with restaurants. Rustic, this single word describes the place perfectly. Maybe tight does too, we had to move the table to get in and out. Food Drink - Carlsberg beer from a bottle. Dinner - Gratin d'andouillette du "Pere Fillion", or in English Chitterling's pork sausage in gratin with mustard sauce. I have to say I never had this before. When I received my meal it was really not what I was expecting the potatoes where shredded and made into a pie. I single slice sat in the middle of the hot bowl. The pork and mustard combo was poured in around the gratin. It seemed more like small slivers of pulled pork than sausage. I love a good mustard but in this dish it was over powering. Dessert - Chocolate mousse, very rich but that is how it should be down. Service - Two men were running the front of the house. It might be small but the place was packed. Neither spoke English but we all managed to get by. Future - Sure.
