We were craving spice in Quebec City and set out looking for Asian food. That search led us to…read moreMadame Phan. Both of us--coming from different parts of Asia--were hopeful. The food? It was okay. It gave us the spice fix we needed, but it wasn't authentic. I wish I could rate it higher, but I feel a responsibility to be critical when it comes to Asian cuisine. Too often, Asian food is watered down for Western taste buds. It's a disservice to the cultures it represents. Quebec City already feels deeply European, and I would love to see more pride in showcasing Asian food as it really is. Here's the truth: authentic food usually outperforms the "tailored-to-locals" version. People rise to the occasion when they're given the real thing. Sadly, what I often see--here included--is the opposite. Local diners leave thinking they've "experienced Asian food" when, in fact, they haven't. The first red flag was in the description itself: "Asian." Asia is vast and diverse. Expecting one restaurant, or one chef, to represent it all is impossible. It's like walking into a place that claims to serve all European food under one roof. Unrealistic by definition. So, no, Madame Phan isn't authentic. But it did serve its purpose: it gave us something spicy when we needed it. I just wish more restaurants here leaned into authenticity rather than compromise. Because authentic Asian food deserves better than this.

The interior is your typical no-frills Asian restaurant--simple and straightforward. Service was…read morequick, and the food came out fast. Quebec City isn't exactly known for authentic or high-quality Asian cuisine, so it's best to keep your expectations in check. This place is about as close as you'll get. The pho wasn't authentic--the broth tasted more like beef bouillon, so I'd skip that. The Thai chicken had a good kick of spice, and the General Tao's was actually pretty solid. Overall, there aren't many Asian food options in the city, but this place gets the job done.

Pick up order in downtown Quebec. More of a fast food joint…read morein terms of quality and taste but would still recommend it. We had the green curry chicken with rice, pad see ew with beef, and the chicken Pad Thai. The Thai green curry chicken with rice was great! A lot of flavors swirling in the sauce and didn't have a lot of heat which is what I wanted/ very mild! Green peppers and onions dotted the taste and added crunch to the dish. The Pad See Ew with beef was generous in size and came with vegetables as well. It would be better with more basil added but still was a good dish. The Pad Thai with chicken was just okay - although lacking in egg and more veggies ( bean sprouts, scallions, etc) that usually comes in Pad Thai, and the sauce could've used more oomph because the tamarind was very strong. No peanuts and the noodles were not flat but looked rounded. Overall this is a good take out to stay in during winter time and if you are at a hotel just wanting to stay indoors, as we did. Prices were decent and affordable. Service was good/ can be more focused on orders , we paid an extra $0.80 as per their website if we wanted a bowl instead of a take out box but 2 out of 4 dishes came in a takeout box.

The owner, upon noticing my profound disdain for the slop he'd just served me, rushed over to our table to offer a replacement for my meal. I'll give him credit for that. Unfortunately, his recommended replacement was only marginally better, a stir fry of peppers, onions, and breaded beef chunks served over rice swimming in several ounces of diluted hoisin sauce. The food here is definitely 1 star, but I'm giving a 2 star rating to my review for the owner's attempt at customer service.

We were craving some comforting ramen on a cold night in Quebec city. There isn't much in terms of…read moreramen in QC so we headed to this spot as it had pretty solid reviews. However being from Vancouver where ramen is plentiful and so damn good, this left us feeling pretty underwhelmed. We waited about 40 minutes to get a table - I guess we went on a really busy evening (which oddly enough was a Sunday) and people ahead of us said "it's worth the wait". Unfortunately for us it wasn't. So where did it go wrong for us you ask? While the staff was really kind, it was a bit slow going - I had to ask for my drink order twice for my sister and I. It finally came with my soup. We had a salad to start called the Wafu salad - a Japanese chefs salad with Wafu dressing. While the dressing was the best part, there wasn't much on the deconstructed salad of corn, bell peppers, crunchy noodle, daikon, and lettuce, the salad was also served on a really awkward dish where the contents falls off the edges as you try to grab a bit of everything. Up next were the ramens - I got the Miso - Shallot, bean sprouts, nori, naruto, pork chashu and 1/2 egg and corn - I also got a 1/2 egg added for $1.50. If you're going to serve ramen for nearly $20 - you need to supply a full egg, that's just silly to only give a halfer. The first thing I noticed about the ramen was it was lacking broth - by the time I started getting into it, the noodles had soaked up a lot of it and I was left with mostly noodles - not great. The broth itself was flavourful so if it just had more of it, it'd be a better ramen. The corn was also odd for me and I didn't love that addition. My sister and moms was worse - my sis got the Vegetarian and my mom got the Yasai Miso. The vegetarian had so much stuff on top that again it takes away from the broth (which was also non-existent). My mothers was the same - the vegetables were just a bunch of cabbage lobbed ontop. Unfortunately I can't recommend this spot for ramen - the mediocre food is not worth it or the lineup to get it. The restaurant also looks much cuter in photos online than it was in-person - it lacks character in the decor.

We walked over and it wasn't too busy on a Sunday night. It's not a big space - maybe enough to seat 30 people. It's simply decorated, and some specials were written on blackboards on the wall. We basically both the miso and the shoyu ramen, and they were both good. They were a good size, and reasonably priced. Service was friendly and helpful. Why am I giving 3 out of 5 stars? It was a good meal, but nothing memorable about it. It's very similar to other ramen places I've been to, so in a few weeks, I might not remember much about my visit other than it filled me up, and there's nothing wrong with that. It would be dependable place to get a meal.
