Tax time! Ick! As…read moremany of you who know me can attest, I am pretty DIY. I don't like to spend money on things that I don't have to. With this philosophy in mind, I did my own taxes for many years. It was a bit tedious, but things like TurboTax eventually helped remove some of the sting. However, a few years ago, my partner and I embarked upon the adventure of creating a shared LLC. In addition, we had been doing freelance gigs here and there -- things that don't fit as easily into tax-figuring as a standard jobby job. When we went to set up our LLC, friends who ran a small indie record label referred us to Jeff Stefforia. He was exactly the right person to work with. He is extremely knowledgeable, but also gets to the heart of the matter and is efficient in terms of time/meetings. He's worked with other indie and small businesses, and so seems to understand the quirks of that sort of client well. I also honestly appreciated that he didn't judge us on the fact that we had a business together but were not married. That sounds odd, but believe me, other people (who I feel have no right to judge my personal decisions) have questioned why I would have a business with my partner who is not my legal spouse. It was so refreshing to not have to deal with that! My own taxes this year were pretty straightforward, though I had to submit some extra info. for a housing credit. The very first workday after turning in all of my paperwork, I received a friendly email from Kim, one of Jeff's associates, asking for follow-up and a few pieces of information I missed. It was simple enough to find and send her the information, and I can breathe a sign of relief knowing that taxes are now out of my hands, into expert hands, and almost complete. With how insanely busy my partner and my own respective schedules are, Jeff and the rest of the crew at Stefforia & Associates have been a god-send. Saving us time, and ultimately, some money. I'm very thankful that our friends steered us in the right direction!

We have always had excellent service from them, including in some complex situations, and they have often found things in the tax code that I would never have learned if I lived to be a thousand. The fact that I have not gone crazy yet is partly due to these guys' work. ------------------------- 2018 update: We are using them again this year, and also for my elderly parents and our daughter. We got in just before the tax-time flood, and they got all three done in One Day. (They are no doubt geared up for the flood.) All the works looks good. Still very happy with this service and still not crazy, after all these years.

I had tried to do my taxes myself and had completed everything except one serious problem with inputting and coding one of my 1099-R as a refund of Basis I prepaid on an annuity product that I cancelled and the Basis was refunded to me, not to be counted as income. The program I was using included the amount refunded as Income instead of refund of Basis adding to my gross income. Struggling with the program, I could not get this resolved and could not finish my taxes. I called Wolverine and John Eaton answered my call. I explained the above to John. John actually listens. John came up with solutions. He said I did not need Wolverine for a simple return because of the cost. John proposed that he recommend a tax preparer to do my return and file it. John made 3 phone calls on my behalf and consulted with his staff members to find a person out of office qualified to do my returns. John called me back to keep me informed of his progress. John consulted with me about my tax problem on his time and with no compensation. John Eaton is extraordinary, capable, smart, kind and generous. Wolverine CPA Company is exceptional in the field and I very highly recommend Wolverine CPA. No other company made any effort to talk to me and guide me. John Eaton is a pleasure to work with and I am grateful.

I've been going there for the last 6-7 years and, as a testament to my trust and confidence in them, my daughter now goes to Sasena's. That should pretty much say it all. There are more inexpensive places, but the folks at Sasena's are professionals and not part-timers or new in the tax and accounting business. I will pay for accuracy (vital for IRS tax submittals), expert advice, and availability year round if necessary. Mark, the principle, is also an enrolled agent (I hope to never use his service, but am glad all is available under 1 roof!) and his son, Ty, is the professional both my daughter and I work with. There are lots of choices, and I'm glad to have found Sasena's. They have earned my strongest possible recommendation.
