The Rabbit Hole is a Social Enterprise set up by Aberconwy Mind to provide real work experience and training for "people who are experiencing or have experienced mental health issues" All profit is put back into the charity to continue delivering valuable support, training and mentoring for their trainees. It has a lovely atmosphere and being down below street level it is like entering into the world of Alice with its clock wall paper. You can either sit at the tables near the kitchen or in the wonderful lounge with its rather comfy sofa and walls decorated with book wallpaper. The staff in the Rabbit Hole are lovely and polite, willing to help and explain the drinks and menus to you, also letting you know which of the foods that are available are gluten-free, suitable for vegans and if they have nuts in or not. As this was a "light" lunch, we had a lovely soup and then coffee and cake but the menu looked inviting.. The choice is great and it was very helpful of the "Rabbit" chef to explain what each cake was and what was in it. It has free wifi and I embarrassed myself somewhat by asking the guy on the laptop how long he was going to be, only to discover it was his laptop and not for general use. He was great and let me use it and I gave him the name of a website "Food that doesn't hurt" as he was looking for good recipies. Both of us happy chappies. We stopped here as this is the town where Sue's mom was born. After wandering around on a Saturday morning we sought out a place that we might find a proper Welsh breakfast. We came upon the store part on the bottom floor and while inside I noticed a sign for a cafe just up the stairs. Mentioned it to Sue and we took a look. Cute little place. Busy on an overcast Saturday morning. We saw that they offered a Welsh breakfast and we were sold. The breakfast consisted of good toast and Welsh butter, sausage and bacon (you read that correctly), mushrooms, tomatoes and sunny side up eggs. It hit the spot after a long flight from the states. A good way to start a trip.

Take a Break sells the usual Cafe fare, from toasted sandwiches, cakes, Jacket Potoates and hot meals. It also has a Takeway service which I've used many times when I've just wanted a Quick Bacon Butty on the run! The staff are really friendly and chatty and many have worked their for years so they know the regulars and make them feel welcome. Great for a Quick Snack or Lunch after a hard days shopping in Llanduno, or a good place to meet up with friends for Coffee and a chat.

There is a pay and display car park situated very close by so this cafe is reachable even if you only want to do a quick and easy walk. There's mini golf and a decent sized play area to keep children entertained as well. Prices are a little steep but due to its location, I wouldn't really expect to find a bargain.

Unfortunately we got there just after a tram had arrived as well as a minibus tour so there was a huge queue and all the tables were taken. We decided to give it ten minutes for things to quiten down then tried again. Having got into the queue alarm bells started to ring as we passed a display of cakes. The cakes looked very nice but were priced at £3+ each!!!! I looked up at the price list on the wall and saw that small fizzy drinks were priced at £1.70 each!!!! Now this might be ok if the premises didn't have the same ambience as a works canteen or at the very least offered the same sort of views you get from standing outside. Unfortunately only a small number of tables are adjacent to the windows so most of the tables only offer views of the other mugs queuing up to be fleeced. I decided I didn't fancy paying £3.40 for two small cups of pop when I could head back into town and buy two 500ml bottles of pop for a quid in Poundland so we opted to give the Captain's Table a miss. I'd very strongly advise visiting the Orme summit (just pick a clear day) but I'd also strongly advise taking a picnic unless you really want to have to take out a second mortgage just to buy a cup of tea.
