It has fantastic new changing rooms and showers. The club offers a great mix of competitive tennis and social tennis. It also caters for all levels. I myself was a beginner in 2006 and thanks to great coaching I now love playing league. The club is genuinely very friendly and it is very easy to meet people due to the many tennis events and coaching that take place weekly. I have been a member of a few other tennis clubs over the year due to house moves but this is the friendliest club that I have been a member of. Drop in a on Saturday morning at 10.30am and have a hit and meet some players. Then stay for tea/coffee/biscuits and a chat afterwards. The club also runs regular 30 euro per month trial offers. The club has 11 outdoor synthetic courts that are very well maintained.

Those who pay the bills? Each time I've come in here, I've had one gripe or another. Either they are too busy chatting amongst themselves to say hello or goodbye, or they're just not super arsed in being friendly. I get that they're busy, but this is not a cheap gym by any stretch of the imagination so it would be nice to be received with a bit more courtesy. I arrived today at 1.42pm to register for spinning class at 2pm. They say that registration opens 15 mins before each class, so despite being there and ready to go, the receptionist turned to another spinner and I telling us we'd have to wait to register. Now this isn't some high tech scenario on a computer that literally doesn't open til the set time - it's jotting your name down on a piece of paper. I would like to say in full disclosure that the receptionist was tending to someone else at the time, but if she had enough time to turn to us and tell us we'd have to wait til quarter to for signing our name, surely she'd have had enough time to pass us the registration paper. Thankfully which is what another staff member did, once he heard the comment from his colleague. It took him about 0.2 seconds to pass us the sheet. A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray in situations like this. I'm still a major fan of this gym and most of the staff so far have been great, but it would be great if there was a bit less of a "Computer Says Noooooo" attitude in here (What an episode that was!)

I need to update this review with major news!…read more After a hard training, I usually go as far as the shower and don't even take the time to dry my hair before I go home. This time I felt like pushing my boundaries, wearing my bikini in public, and going to the spa. 1* For the spa: It's called spa but it's basically a huge swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, a jaccuzzi, and tropical showers - meaning different water temperature. The place is warm - not too warm ! - and clean. I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to hygiene and this place has my stamp of approval. 1* For the sauna: Dry heat as you would expect. The interior is made of wood and the heat place is made of stones. There are 3 different levels and - of course - as the heat goes up the highest seats are warmer. It's not too hot so you can have a good sweat. Don't stay too long though and do not wear jewelry - you will get burnt. 1* For the showers: I love to alternate sauna / medium heat shower to cold / steam room. Some people like to take a cold shower right away but I don't appreciate the extreme change in temperature. I go for medium heat shower and possibly cold after that, it has to be step by step. 1* For the steam room: What a great sensation to be in a steam room! The heat and humidity is no overwhelming and that's a plus. You can't stay very long - as per usual - but you can still handle a good moment. Also there is an ambiance music played in the room to help fully relax. This place is a treat ! You eliminate the bad toxines in your body, you work on your breathing system, and you relax all at once. I haven't tried the swimming poor nor the jaccuzzi but that should happen very soon. 1* For the hair dryer: OMG Those hair dryers are so amazing it only take a few minutes to get my hair completely dry. And my hair is long to my waist. And not easily cooperative when it comes to drying! I need to take a picture of how everything is set up, but in short you can find 4/5 hair dryers and 1 hair straightener along a long mirror. You have space to put your brush or other hair/make-up products and get ready. Even when it's busy girls always make space for one another. Very friendly changing room ! 1* For the free trial: I asked for a few trial tickets for my boyfriend. They couldn't give any because this gets sent from the headquarter. At first I thought it was a bummer but then I remembered that a couple of months ago I received free trial tickets by post and a 5 day pass as well ! Should I remove a star ? It's true there should be more flexibility on that aspect but on the other hand they send a lot of incentives by post. I leave this star for now :D 1* For the beauty centre: Today I noticed a new poster in the entrance promoting a new beauty centre. Opening soon facilities for waxing, semi-permanent make-up, manicure, and pedicure. There was something else but I don't remember... Which you could maybe go to afterwards... In a quest to find some cool shizzle to do over the summer that won't leave me regretful and full of fear, I thought I'd give this SUP thing a bash. I tried it last year in Dollymount on one of the most amazing days, and it was sublime, as would anything be in that unexpected heat. So back I went over southside this time, on a not so amazing day, to see if stand up paddle boarding is still as fun when the sun is playing hide and go seek. I can now say, actually, yeah it is. We went for a bit of a cruise just around the jetty area, in and out of the boats, and along the inlet. We had the pleasure of seeing a massive seal dip in and out of the water next to us, and I even went for a few dips into the water (perhaps accidentally..!), but with the super-warm wetsuits we were given, I really didn't mind. Aboveboard itself is hidden down a bit of a higgledypiggeldy laneway just up from the Dun Laoighaire DART. It's been done up to be really super cute. They have a decking area on top of the building that you can sit on and look at the sea, and there are lots of little touches like artificial turf in the changing rooms, super cute bathrooms, and even a blistering hot heater that will blast you if you need it. As I said, the equipment is all top of the range - I've never been given wet suit shoe things before, and they're deadly. You hardly feel the water at all! The instructors and owners are all lovely, friendly, patient and fun. Just what you want when you're undertaking something like this. They also do kite surfing which I'd love to try, and I think I may like more than SUP to be honest. My problem with SUP is that it's a little too... calm for me. It was so nice to be out in the water though and I'll definitely do it again, but kite surfing will be next on the agenda. They do group sessions and one on ones. If you're looking for something different to do with your longer evenings, I'd highly recommend giving them a shout.

Its slightly hard to find at the back of a car parts yard but well worth the search. We tried the stand up paddle boarding and I loved loved loved it. We received a friendly welcome and demo on arrival, all very straightforward. We then had a short walk down to the west pier in our wet suits. Its quite nerve wracking as a first timer but once your in the water its really chilled with great views across the sea. The instructor is extremely helpful at giving you tips to not fall in, I wasn't in the humor for a swim that day..... (yes!!! I didn't go in haha). Give it a shot, will defo be back.

It is an absolute joke! They never ever answer the phone, and yet when you go into the gym there are multiple staff at the reception. If you email them, they will take over a month to respond. If you ask one of the receptionist for anything (the most basic of requests) they haven't a clue and direct you to call the number for Westwood, to which you will NEVER get an answer. The gym itself is nice and all that, but I actually miss Flyefit now and regret paying the amount Ive paid on a membership with them due to the terrible customer service. Also just something to watch out for, the day you visit the gym with an interest of joining, you will be shown around by a staff member who has all the time in the world for you and will dazzle you with all of the perks etc of joining Westwood, but don't be fooled by this ! There is a lot of pride in this gaelic club for both the football and the hurling teams. you will often see a ball soar up into sight above the walls of the pitches as you drive by. the club house is a nice spot too and well worth having a drink in after watching a game.

I've…read morebeen a swimmer on and off since I was about 5 years old (ON for most of my teenage years, OFF when I discovered beer and women, ON again when I took up triathlon to set myself a new challenge), so I have a good idea what makes a good swimming pool, and a fair idea what makes a good gym. Let's start at the start - this is a private members gym; you can't walk in off the street unless you're signed in by a member. You can sign up for some classes by themselves (spin, pilates, etc) as a non-member, but most of the people here are fully paying members. That being said, the membership packages are very flexible - it's basically €230 for an individual for a year of a basic membership, plus either pay-as-you-go, or whatever package you want to put on top for gym/swim/etc. I've been a member since February and I could not be more impressed to be honest. The place is always spotless, the staff are always friendly, the other patrons are always grand (no steroid junkies here!), and the classes are very good; particularly the spin classes which come as part of your full membership. Every facility you could want is here as well: gym, pool, football pitches, tennis and badminton courts, sauna, leisure suite... you name it, it's there! Now onto the pool itself. It's a standard 25 meter pool with a small viewing gallery. The 'adult swim' sessions are the best to go to if you want to go for a proper swim - three lanes will be marked out and most people stick to the slow, medium & fast lanes (it's a pet peeve of mine when they don't!). All in all, a great job in a handy location, and you can customise your own package or pay-as-you-go after the initial membership fee. Only negative is that you have to pay up-front rather than by Direct Debit, but it's not enough of a grievance to deter me from awarding the big 5!
