I went to Gallery 25 on 2/1/25 to have some vintage baseball cards framed. I met Chris, who is a…read morevery friendly guy and will talk your ears off. Chris told me that this would take 2 weeks to complete. If by 2 weeks, he meant 10 weeks, then it was 2 weeks. No matter how many times I called, nobody EVER picks up the phone, so I had to keep going in to his shop (I live 25 minutes away). I asked to have pictures of the unfinished product sent to me before the work was completed to make sure I liked it, and everything was the way I wanted it (spacing, borders, colors, etc.) After 8 weeks, I finally got an email of the pictures, and it was wrong so the layout had to be changed. Finally, after 10 weeks, after the changes, I picked up the frame. Then, I gave him much more expensive cards ($2,000) to frame and told him that this can't take 10 weeks. He assured me that this time it would only take two weeks. I told him that this frame had to be the same size as the last one since I would be displaying them together. I called after 2 weeks to see if it was done, and as usual, nobody picked up the phone, so I left a message. I said the same thing as before. Make sure you send me pictures before you seal up the frame. Of course, nobody called me back, I called 4 more times that week, left 4 more messages...not ONE call back. Then, suddenly, I get an email that the frame is done. I went in and picked it up, brought it home and noticed that not only was this frame bigger than the first one, but the borders/frames around the cards were MUCH bigger than the first ones, so the white borders of the cards could not be seen. It made the cards look much smaller. They do not look like real baseball cards; they look like imitations and copies that I've seen online. The spacing of the cards in relation to the engraved plaque was off as well. I emailed Chris again (since there is no point in calling), and he told me that he was NOT going to redo the piece and it looked just fine to him. He didn't even want to hear what the issues were. It could have been a small fix. I would have even been willing to keep the larger frame but at least change the borders around the cards to they look real. Maybe it looked fine to him, but he is in the framing business, not the baseball card business. It was not what I wanted or asked for. You can see the difference in the 2 pieces. One has a slight orange frame around the card for a nice hint of color, while you can still see the white borders, and the other where the white borders are completely covered up and there is a dominating large gray frame around the card. The two look nothing alike. I was going to sue him but it wasn't worth the filing fees, or my time for $230, which I never even got a receipt for since I paid cash. So, if you want to wait 4 times longer than it should normally take for your merchandise to be completed, have your calls ignored, have zero communication with who is doing the work, and have them make their own decisions as to how YOUR items come out.... then this is your place.

I found this venue after googling "things to do". Being two days before Halloween it was fun to…read moreget into the spooky spirit!! The building is located in Mineola on an industrial block. I must admit, I thought the building would be larger. Two floors filled with popular monster ghouls and gals. There were also some characters I was not familiar with. Each exhibit was accompanied with trivia facts about the origin of the character. In this regard, the place has a museum feel to it. If you're looking to have the bejesus scared out of you or live characters all up in your face, this isn't the place for that. I personally didn't mind, although two of the exhibits did catch me by surprise. My scare quota was satisfied for the night! Expect to stay about an hour. It wasn't crowded so the friendly staff told us we could take our time. Although an hour should allow you to experience the entire place. I agree with another Yelper in that, this has the potential to be really, really awesome if done on a larger scale. However since this isn't the big city with perhaps more resources and space, it did just fine.

I was waiting for a family member to get out of long surgery at St. Francis and couldn't just sit…read morein the waiting area for that long. I announced I was going to take a walk, and was told by some car-dependent Long Islanders there wasn't anything out there and there were no sidewalks anyway. Man, adventure is everywhere. Not even ten minutes up the road from the hospital I stumble upon The Art Guild (aka Elderfields Historic Preserve, The Hewlett-Munson-Williams House), a museum and artists studio that has taken up residence in the oldest house in Nassau County (1675). You're free to wander around the home, looking in all its nooks and crannies. Downstairs a painting class was being held and budding artists put their creations to canvas with soothing music playing in the background. Tea, coffee, and treats are available for a modest price. Each month the art theme changes, the month I went the theme was transportation and I thought the art was very well done! Upstairs you'll find some of the resident artists studios, with their work on display as well. There are kitschy bathrooms with ornate light fixtures, creaky floorboards, heavy doors with their original skeleton keys, dimpled glass window panes, bits of original wallpaper, fireplaces, antique furniture, dormer windows, etc. The ground are also beautiful: old barns and sheds, picket fences, stone pathways, stone walls, blooming trees, a gazebo, creaky gates. On a cloudy, misty, early spring day I felt like I was exploring a secret garden in New England. Just up the road from this is Flower Hill Park, a small but pretty park that is also a nice respite from the waiting room. If you're in the area, or anxiously waiting in the hospital, this is a nice stop to make if you're looking for a calm, soothing environment with friendly people who are happy to either chat with you or let you wander the grounds solo. Shout out to Lisa whose love and excitement for the space shown through so strong. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm, it was contagious!

The Living Museum is located on the south campus of the Creedmore Psychiatric Facility. Housed in a decaying former cafeteria, it is an active artistic space for psychiatric patients that is open to the public. Thousands of square feet of art, covering nearly every surface, in this haunted, surreal, AMAZING space. You could come here every day for a year and still see something new. The art is sophisticated, creative, unique, thought provoking, and is for a good cause. This is not only a fantastic art museum, but a wonderful therapeutic outlet for patients. I connected with one of the founders, Dr. Marton, as well as Dr. Reyhani, the director of exhibits. They were both warm, accommodating, and responsive. They helped me to see this exhibit, which I have now recommended to each of my friends who frequent New York. This is emotional. Intense. Maybe life changing. Best museum in New York, hands down.

The Creedmore Psychiatric Hospital plays host to a museum of the works of the patients of the hospital and the things they do are amazing. This is not just finger-paintings of clowns crying...this is serious art and some of it really makes you think that maybe all of us who have the ability to eat dinner without sticking the fork in our forehead need to just step away from the paintbrushes and go back to our day jobs...we we don't got 'it' Imagine the kind of sculpture that a schizophrenic could do, or the kind of installation that a Obsessive compulsive could put together and you are getting it..
