I felt rushed, unattended and overcharged for a hair color I didn't like. I've been considering leaving this review because I usually dont like to give negative ratings but this feels like should be shared. I arrived 30 min earlier, and I don't mind waiting. Yet, for a change of color that costed me almost $500 (I had virgin hair), I didn't even receive water or any kind of drink. (I felt like I should've at least been offered something, like the other customers did.) The hairstylist was very nice, yet she was barely with me and kept running around because she was overbooked with other 3 clients. If you know you're overbooked, why would you keep scheduling people? when you wont even be able to give each customer the treatment they are paying for. I had booked a 'Consultation' to know the price of everything. They called me and asked me if I wanted to do the full treatment that day and I said sure why not. If I had known the price I was going to be charged, I would've declined. But, when she told me I was already sitting there for almost an hour, how could I have walked out and say no. I felt tricked. To top it all, the color I came out with, was not what I asked for. It was brighter than what I wanted. There could've been no corrections made because they were closing the salon while she was drying my hair, so I felt bad saying that I didnt like it (honestly, I should've). I was the last client while I had been there for 4 hours!! I felt rushed, unattended and overcharged for a hair color I didn't like. (Also, I feel like they handle the hair so roughly, especially the washing. They brushed my hair wet, which leads to breakage.) Overall, I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone who hans't dyed their hair before, be aware of the prices (Other salons in Manhattan have lower prices than this location) and the lack of hospitality is not worth it. read more

While the salon staff were very kind and welcoming, the haircut was not professional. The stylist seemed nervous and inexperienced. When I got home, I found entire pieces of hair that were sticking way out and completely missed by the stylist. I had to trim them myself. The salon has been in the neighborhood for many years, and I took my grandmother there once, and she was very happy with her blowout. My haircut was over a year ago, so perhaps things have changed. It just seems to me that more training is needed at the salon. It could be such a great local spot! Mau Sanchez is the rudest person I have encountered. I showed him a picture of the cut I wanted it was a simple V haircut. I told him I wanted the V cut to start on my shoulders, I even pointed & showed him where to start it. And he tells me "No tienes otra opción?" "If I had another option". I told him no that that's what I wanted. He then tells me to stand and that he can't do it sitting down with an attitude. So I said okay, so I stood the whole time. When I saw the results I told him it was not what I asked for and that you can barely see the V. He didn't cut any length & it didn't frame my face like I repeatedly asked. I wanted the cut to start on my shoulders I asked if he can cut it a little on the sides to fix it. He then says that it's going to look botched and that he's not cutting it more. I told him I'm not asking for him to cut the whole thing but instead just to fix the front portions. He then tells me with an attitude I'll do it for you but it will look horrible, and don't tell me I didn't tell you, okay? I then told him to leave it like that since I didn't trust him fixing it at that point. I told him how that now I have to go to another place and pay to get it fixed. He then says " Well they are going to make it look horrible, I'm just telling you." in Spanish. He straightened the tips to show me it was a v haircut. I told him that it's not what I wanted and he's like well I'm not fixing it. Oh and while he was cutting my hair he raises his voice at the sweet lady that offered me coffee and helps clean up to look for his red comb with a nasty attitude. I paid almost $700 (not including tip) to go from brunette to blonde balayage. All I got was balayage and blow out, NO cut. The girl who did my hair was friendly (Antonia). Other staff were nice too. However she damaged my hair badly. My hair was untouched good quality hair when I came in. I understand bleach weakens the hair. Professional hair stylist knows the max you should have bleach on is 30 mins. I had bleach on for over 2 hours. On top of that my hair was toned twice. Very damaging. I'm not happy with the color. Now I have to go somewhere else to get a trim cause the bottom of my hair is fried. The job took a total of 8 hours. I've been to places where the job takes 3-4 hours tops. I didn't even get a haircut with the amount of money I paid for! I've been blonde before and should have seen the red flags.If it takes longer than 7 hours run, esp if you are the only client for that day. I tipped on top of being overcharged which I felt gross by. She kinda laughed with her boss when I was being charged like she knew she overcharged. They gave eachother hi fives. This is the best hair salon in the neighborhood! We've come here twice in the last couple of months. Nestor is an amazing stylist and the staff are friendly and extremely accommodating. Reasonably priced haircuts and best to make your appointment ahead of time. Preferred language is Spanish but I get by. I don't even know where to start. I needed to trim my layers and get a blow out before a trip. I called this salon at 11:51 and asked for the latest appointment possible. I let them know I had curly hair if that made a difference, but didn't request a specific stylist as this was my first experience here. The lady who took my appointment confirmed with the stylist and told me she would see me tonight at 7pm. Perfect! I showed up for my appointment at 6:40. The owner greeted me, appeared to not see my appointment so he walked over to a woman getting her hair done with the appointment book and she seemed to nod knowingly. He came back to tell me my stylist was busy but to have a seat and he'd be with me ASAP. I knew i was early and happily took a seat. My appointment time of 7pm came and went. 7:15 came and went. 7:30 came and went. All the while, the employees were filing out to go home and the remaining employees all but completely ignored me until one girl approached me and asked who i was waiting for. Confused, I explained that my appointment Was at 7 and I was greeted and seated and told to wait. It's now 7:40 and the girl tells me that I'm not in the appointment book. I explain that I called and what exactly the appointment taker said and a man walks over, PICKS UP THE BOOK and puts it in my face to show me I'm not written in. I then open my phone log and show him the phone number of their establishment along with the time and duration of my phone call. Explain that i wouldn't have taken an Uber to this place had I not had an appointment and that if I had known there was an issue I would have made an appointment somewhere else. The woman now begins to ask the remaining stylists if they would take me (even though they were now closed) and they all said no and addressed her about how they were leaving soon. They all continued talking to each other in Spanish(which I'm sadly not fluent in) and not a single one said anything to me. No apology. No explanation. I had to literally say "can someone please talk to me? I sat there for an hour and not one person spoke to me or let me know I wouldn't be seen. Now I'm being told I'm out of luck and not a single one of you can even apologize or even acknowledge the mistake?" They all stared blankly at each other. Still no one said anything to me. Finally a man finishing with a client said "if you wait I'll do it." I've already waited an hour and 10 minutes so at this point, it's my only option as I have a flight first thing in the morning. I get seated at about 8 for my TRIM and blow out. I ask for long layers, nothing off the length,into a V. At 9pm and $62 bucks later (I told them one tip and they charged me for a top $5 higher) I walk out with a complete hack job. I can't even explain it but the picture speaks for itself. Knowing there was nothing i could do about it at this point, I left. In hindsight I shouldn't have paid a single cent. Just please beware of this place. I've always come here for myself & I always see Leo. He always does a great job. For mother's day I referred this salon to my mother & getting her hair done was her mother's day gift. While browsing on Yelp for a quick 5 minutes...on a hair salon nearby me, I saw that this place had really good ratings and it was walking distance from me. I had been doing my hair here and there and turning it from a reddish brown to a light orangey blonde. I was looking into the new trend of having silver hair...and when I walked in for my appointment with Carlos, they had suggested that it would be damaging to my hair since my hair was already dry and processed previously. However, Leo (the owner) walked over and examined my hair and they told me they can get close to the color I wanted without trying to damage my hair. I was all up for it. Overall, the process of bleaching my hair plus toning it down...and the little haircut and blowdrying...took about 4 hours. The place was amazingly clean and they offered coffee, water and tea while you waited. So, overall...I was impressed with their final product in my hair and their customer service. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend this hair salon to everyone who wants a great fix to their hair color and also to those who need makeup for a night out. I came to this salon a total of 5 times, 2 out of 5 they did a great job, but the last 3 they did horribly. The first time I came because of the thriving reviews back then, I got my first appointment with Graciella, I told her I wanted lots of layers (sort of of stacked like stairs from top to bottom) and I wanted the bottom to stay straight instead of a V shape. She did it exactly how I wanted and I couldn't be happier! I thought my goodness do you know how hard it is to find a good salon and hairstylist in NYC that can click with you with just the right chemistry, I'd never go anywhere else. Then the second time I came (about a year later), Graciella wasn't there so I went with Igor Santos. I asked for the exact same cut again like I did the year before and he too did a great job! I thought again-- wow this salon really have some of the best stylist, I'm never going anywhere else. The third time I came, Graciella or Igor wasn't there so I went with this guy with lots of tattoos and thin (unfortunately I forgot his name‍) I told him what I wanted (yes I know I may sound like the most boring person cause I kept asking for the same haircut but my hair is very precious to me, plus I when I was younger I used to try different haircuts and would color my hair every few months until I realized the damaged it's costing my hair so I stopped and now I'm super super careful, even with haircuts too) but this third guy did it horribly! He did the V shape end, opposite of what I wanted, he only did 2 layers when I asked for way more than that, I came out of there all angry and frustrated. The fourth time I went I got Graciella again, I thought-- finally!! But unfortunately I don't know what happened that day, maybe she doesn't quite understand what I was saying cause her English isn't that great, or maybe she had had a long day, or maybe cause it's been 3 years so maybe she doesn't remember, who knows. I came out of there looking like one of those grandma that's been spending the whole day at the salon using a curler or had just gotten a perm. Even family was shocked to see the result! The fifth and last time I went, I got Graciella again. I thought I was gonna give her one last chance because I still remember what an amazing job she did the first time. I even provided her with a picture this time cause I also wanted to color my hair as well, so that she'd have a visual of what I wanted my hair to look like. Because she doesn't speak English very well, she called on her co worker (a guy) to translate for her. The guy looked at the picture too and asked if I was sure I wanted that particular haircut like in the photo because it has a lot of layers. I firmly said yes, but if Graciella can't do it please refer me to someone who can, but Graciella said (with confidence) that she can do it, and so I stay. With coloring, haircut, blow dry, etc everything would come up to about $400 or more, I was like whaaatttt?!?! But I mean I get it, this is New York after all, nothing is cheap and my hair was extremely long (up to my hips) and thick too. But since I don't have the budget I asked them for just a single color (not twice like they wanted to do cause they said if it's not done twice, the color won't come out since I have dark hair, but I don't care) but even for a single color it would still cost me around $250, you know what-- I decided, no. Just the haircut, no color. So with that picture I gave Graciella as her guidance, she started cutting my hair. Halfway through I knew she done a horrible job, I could tell. But I kept trying to keep my cool, not complain too much, etc... then before blow drying she asked if the haircut is to my liking, I couldn't see it clearly because it was still wet. But I mentioned once again, lots of layers and a straight bottom not a V shape. So she went in again the second time to snip here and there nothing major. Then she blow dry my hair, I paid the bill which came to $87 plus tips, I tipped the lady who washed my hair $5 and Graciella $10 which came to a total of $102 for a haircut! BEWARE!!! My hair was severely butchered at this place. I walked in with long layers down to my waist and walked out with an old school hair style - it resembled a rat's tail! I explained to the hair stylist that cut my hair that I recently had a baby and didn't have time to go into the city to see my regular hair stylist and if he could help by given me a trim, following my current layers and style. He disregard this and did whatever he wanted. I walked out with choppy short pieces of layers on the top of my head and a very long piece at the bottom. I was shocked and beyond disappointed! He saw the disappointment in my face and basically said that the short pieces was to give fullness to my hair and this was done because of "my hair type." I didn't ask for this!!! I immediately made an appointment to see my hairstylist so she can fix the disaster that was done to me. She was beyond disbelief and the only way to fix my hair was to give me a "bob" I haven't had short hair since I was in grammar school. I cannot complain about the way my hair came out, I loved it! However it is a little pricey. The thing that is the biggest turn off of all is the wait. I do my hair with Leo the owner he is great BUT he works with way too many clients at the same time! There is a reason why there's appointments. I sat on the chair for 20 min before he started working on my hair. He has about 3 other clients who are waiting for something or being washed. A client who randomly walks in starts asking him questions. I understand you are trying to take in business but you have like 3 other clients waiting plus me ! You never know what time you'll leave here because he works with way to many people at the same time. Once I stayed here for 6 hours! It takes up your whole day. I've been going to this salon for a year now and am still impressed by the price and quality of this place. From the minute I walk in, everyone greets me and is very friendly. Ariel is my hair stylist and is very professional but someone I call a good friend now. He takes care of me. I have platinum blonde hair and get my roots retouched every 6 weeks. The cost is $65! You can't get that anywhere in Manhattan for this quality job. Ariel is very careful to not damage my hair and my head never itches! This was a major problem at the last salon I was at. Ariel has also colored my hair silver and done my makeup a few times. Both always looks excellent. They have designated people who put you in a red silk robe as soon as you walk in, offer you a beverage of your choice, and shampoo and condition your hair which includes a relaxing head massage. This all creates a luxurious atmosphere. Leo, the salon owner, is always buzzing around the salon making sure his customers are being well taken care of and getting the correct hair treatment. He is very friendly, passionate about his salon and it's success, and has done my hair a few times as well and provides top quality service. Looking around the salon, everyone is always in a good mood and I've never seen a customer not satisfied with the outcome of his or her hair. While everyone in the salon primarily speaks Spanish, they also speak English. I would HIGHLY recommend this salon to anyone looking for a top quality yet affordable hair cut or color.
