Really upset with my service. I had asked the woman to cut a half an inch and she took it upon herself to cut about 2-3 because my hair was dead, which yes it may have been but that's not what I'm asking you to do. Not all hairstylists are like this but when will some learn I'm paying you to do what I ask, not what you want to do. I love this place!! Anastasia knows hair. Period. I have thick, wavy, frizzy hair, and she makes it look great. My first experience was my wedding day. Anastasia transformed my hair into a work of art. It was GORGEOUS!!! I got so many compliments on my hair - more than my dress. It really was amazing - a work of art. It wasn't exactly cheap, but it was worth every penny. Seriously. If I had it to do over again, I would do the exact same thing. I would recommend her to anyone. (I'll see if I can upload some photos - if I can get it, I'm the redhead.) I just had my hair cut by Anastasia a couple of days ago, and I absolutely love my new 'do. I should have written this review a long time ago because it is more than well deserved! Envee has been my hair salon for the last year. I first went to them when my mom recommended them after I had a horrific experience at a different salon here in Astoria. I went in with my hair burnt and looking terrible, I spoke to Kathy she was so professional and recommended me waiting a while before doing anything else to my hair and to come see them in a few months. I went back about 6 months later and to my amazement she remembered me right away! We set up an appointment for the next day with Sylvia! Sylvia is seriously the sweetest, kindest, most professional and amazingly talented hair stylist and colorist I've ever encountered ! Her balayage technique is something that should be studied! She is educated in the field and experienced ! Whenever my hair grows out it always still looks amazing, it grows out so beautifully, is blended so well and most importantly it's never been damaged or dry after! This is my fourth visit, 3 times getting balayage and a hair cut (she just always knows what I want, my cut is always so perfect for my face ), I also went in once for a blowout (my hair looked amazing) The prices are also extremely reasonable for a high quality salon, you won't have to drop half a months rent for a hair appointment! My mother has been going here for a couple years and gets her hair done here when she comes to visit me from Boston! It's a long review but I truly feel very comfortable, welcomed and treated so well by everyone at Envee. I have been to envee salon a bunch of times for various services (updo, haircut, color), and I'm always happy when I leave. Recently I went and got a cut and color from Edward. He did a Beautiful job! And so professional and friendly. Also, the owner is wonderful! Always so nice and helpful. I hate choosing new salons because it's hard for me to trust people with my hair. I read a lot of great reviews for Orsola and seeing her work, I felt she could accomplish the look I was going for. I hadnt gotten my hair done professionally for 6 months because I have an extremely busy schedule and kept procrastinating finding a new stylist. The hair stylist I went to before, did an amazing job dying my hair blonde but it was too expensive and far away from me. Upon meeting Orsola, she was super sweet and down to earth. I immediately felt comfortable and was so excited. I showed her multiple pictures of the look I wanted. It was a very light golden blonde. She glanced at them and said no problem. I assumed this was b/c she knew what I wanted and had experience doing this. She did a full head of highlights using Olaplex (another main reason I chose this salon so it doesn't ruin my hair). She then decided to dye the rest of the hair that wasn't in foils an extremely ASHY brown. Her reasoning for this was so that my hair color will last longer since I hadn't been to a salon in awhile and because I showed her my hair transformation from last year. My last hair stylist transformed my hair from a faded red dye job to a beautiful natural looking blonde. She said since I had red in my hair before it would come through again and that it would look bad if my hair was all one color blonde and pointed to another person in the salon. I didn't really understand what she was saying but she was already doing it. She didn't tell me what color it exactly was but I assumed it would be a very light golden blonde to blend the bleached hair since I showed her what I wanted. While I waited for my hair to turn, I used the bathroom. I saw the hair that wasn't in foils had dark brown dye on them and I almost had a heart attack. I asked her how dark this was going to be but she said to trust her. Eventually, my hair was ready to be washed. She cut my hair and blow dried it straight. She asked me if it was what I expected and I guess my face said it all even though I smiled because she kept trying to convince me of her reasoning for doing the brown and how it'll wash out within a week. I went to the desk to pay, and it came out to $310 without tip!! Way more then I expected to pay! The estimate I received on the phone was no where near this. Although I know thats a very rough estimate but I have shoulder length hair and not thick at all. I received a full head of highlights, a hair cut, and style. Im assuming I was also charged for the brown dye that I would have never asked for. But my bf waited the whole time and I was frustrated and in a rush so I paid and ran out. My bf's face said it all. My hair looked GRAY because of the white blonde highlights next to the extremely ashy brown. It was a nightmare and I cried in his bathroom later that night when I saw it again. I texted her with the reference picture and what my hair looked like and she said it was because of the lighting and that the brown would wash out to what I wanted. She said she could put a golden glaze on it to make it look more golden and so we did the next day. Orsola was being very accommodating about this and didn't make it an awkward experience for me. If I hadn't paid this much, I would have never said anything because its just never a comfortable situation. Funny though, as my hair was being washed out, I heard another woman with another hair stylist have the same problem. How the lighting in the salon is SO different then outside or other lighting and how it looks so much better there then anywhere else. This woman had to get her hair color fixed as well. Fortunately, Orsola did the golden glaze free of charge. The next day at work, one kid in my class said I looked like Elsa! Every time I looked in the mirror, I hated my hair even more and I was so upset that I paid $310 for something I hated. I waited a week though and washed my hair EVERY DAY so the ashy brown would come out. It did lighten but no where near to the look I was going for. I spoke to the owner about this and Orsola texted me almost immediately to resolve this. I came in the following weekend. She added more highlights, redid roots, and put a gold glaze on it again. She didn't do close to my roots the 1st time and said my hair grew quick in 2 weeks b/c her hands touched my hair. My hair has grown 2 inches in a year, she just didn't put bleach close to my roots. My hair felt horrible after this whole process again and I lost a lot of hair. It looked better but still was NOTHING like I asked for. It's the 3rd time and Im SO fed up for wasting my time, money, and my hair being damaged. She did what she wanted and not what I asked for. This is just my experience and unbiased opinion. She has a great personality and I was excited to have a new stylist but unfortunately its not for me. Had come here for a deep conditioning treatment, it was eeeh ok. But liked how cheap it was. Came back for lowlights, showed a picture of exactly what I wanted, didn't get anything close to that. The lowlights were far away from my hairline, looked like I had got them done months ago, and whenever I straighten my hair I can see how sloppily they were done and I can see spots where they bled, looks like little cheetah spots on my hair. The lady insisted a get a haircut which I really didn't want and didn't like and a blowdry which I told her I didn't need and $220 later (which I totally wasn't expecting and really ticked me off) I was Not satisfied at all, and when it comes to my hair I'm not picky at all. I am a 23 year old male, so my opinion is naturally going to carry less weight than your basic single woman of 35 who has been both getting her hair done for years and is still attempting to look critically attractive to men. I like this place. I can understand if I was a woman who had to get a dye, or highlights, or some kind of perm, that I might have issues with this place, but unfortunately I don't review as my alter-ego Donna. For a grungy, low-maintenance guy looking to not have a mop on his head, this place is superlatively fine. The ambience is fancy. It smells like the synthetic components of shampoo (clean), everything shines, they have thoughtful seasonal decorations, and they always play appropriate music. I enjoy waiting for my appointment because I get to sink into their leather couch, go to town on their free coffee and candy bars, and enjoy the fact that I'm the only male there. I do love the fact that they offer full-sized Reeses candy bars, M&Ms, and other stuff. Having free candy bars at my disposal makes me feel like I'm in a much higher income bracket. Service is not excellent. The women who've cut my hair have always been somewhere between routinely professional and cold. But they probably see me as a small tip, a basic haircut, and as the only straight male in the place at any given time, so I can't blame them. Price is about $5-$10 more than I'd like to spend ($30), but it's worth it for a salon. They do give generous markdowns for men. The receptionist is intensely rude. Any reluctance I had about the haircutters are blown out of the water by the nastiness of the woman taking the cash. I would've given this place only one star off, but I gave them two more stars off because their employees are spamming this page. Not cool, ladies. The honeymoon is over, I guess, because I've been less than thrilled with my last few experiences at Envee. My first haircut there was great, but subsequent cuts have been dull and school-marmish. The frustrating thing is that I know Anastasia is capable of doing better, but she doesn't treat her clients equally. Some she likes more than others, so she give the ones she likes more care and time. She never took to me, never bothered to learn my name, and before I knew it, I found myself doing the fake "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing" of haircuts that didn't suit me. Sure, they eventually grew out and started looking a little acceptable. But that's not the point, is it? What's more, the last time I was there, they made me wait an ungodly amount of time, despite my having an appointment. No apologies from anyone. Since she was busy with another client (whom she seated 20 minutes after my appointment time, as I continued to wait), she asked me if I was OK to have her assistant start the dying process, which she said she would mix. But she didn't mix anything; her assistant did it. The dye was fine and the assistant was lovely, but the coverage wasn't as thorough as when Anastasia had done it in the past. And then I ended up with the same dyed-skin problem around my hairline that another Yelp reviewer had. And then when I paid, the receptionist let me know that the stylist would have to pay taxes if I used a credit card instead of paying in cash. Um, what? Is that supposed to be my problem? Shouldn't they have to pay taxes anyway? It's a freaking business. I don't want to be a party to this. And I don't want to pay this much for sub-par work when I could get better service elsewhere for the same or just a little bit more money. read more

Walked in and was greeted rather tersely and waited about 15 minutes even though there appeared to be free stylists. As soon as i sat down in a chair, my whole experience changed. Ursula took one look at my hair, asked what I wanted, clarified, and went to work. 30 minutes later she was praising my hair and promising to cut it again any time i wanted. I left only $30 poorer (my old stylist in CT charged at least $50 for a similar appointment) and my head about 30 pounds lighter. Absolutely love the cut, and highly recommend this place. This review is long overdue....but here it goes: I was referred to Envee Salon and Dina by a friend. When I called to make a 7:30pm appointment for a Friday a few weeks in advance, I was told that I wouldn't be able to come in at that time. However, the receptionist was able to fit me in to see Dina at 7:15pm. Great! Unfortunately, I got caught at work in a late meeting and didn't arrive at the salon until 7:35pm. As a first timer, I felt extremely horrible that I was running that late, but Dina fit me in and actually had the salon stay open an extra 30 minutes so that she could take her time with my hair. I'm so glad she did because she gave me the perfect haircut that I had asked for; a flirty and fun bob a la Katie Holmes circa 2008. Love it! Dina did an amazing job! This is my go to spot for quick $20 blow outs. All the hair stylists do a wonderful job- it normally takes me about 30 minutes to get my hair blown out. Love the products that they use - Moroccan Oil. I always call before walking in - they seem a bit busy during the weekends and that's when I normally get my hair done. Friends constantly assume I'm spending $100+ on haircuts, and are always shocked to find out how reasonably-priced they actually are. I'm not the biggest fan of the front desk at this place, as they seem very indifferent and uninterested in providing any real customer service. John himself, however, is a hidden gem. He knows exactly what I want and takes the time to clarify if there's any uncertainty. I've referred both my mom and my dad to him and they've both become loyal customers. Oz is so very talented. I don't trust anyone w my hair color, I have naturally very dark hair w a soft curl. Oz does an amazing balayage ombré, a technique that requires true skill. My hair has never looked and felt more healthy! He also cuts my hair - I have a short haircut and many other stylists have butchered my hair bc the curly texture can be challenging to work with. Even stylists in prominent NYC salons have left me w a frizzy mess, not Oz. He understands texture which I attribute to his 26+ years of experience working with hair. I highly refer his services. Get there, told to sit. 10 minutes go by. 20...30. The woman who greeted me is doing a blow out oblivious to me. No one at the front desk. I'm watching clients leave. A couple come in and are taken back. Um? When the woman steps back to the counter I inquire and am told I will be washed in a minute. 5 minutes go by and I leave. Now, I get salons get backed up. But how about a heads up that I'll be waiting 40 minutes which is longer than the blow out should have taken? Customers have other plans too. Never again. read more

I have been going to Envee for a couple of years and was never really totally satisfied, but kept going back. The place itself is ok,but the stylists are mostly snotty and think they are too cool. The prices are high for the quality of work they do, so i finally got fed up and stop going.The thing that broke the camels back was my highlights(mind you i only wanted a color,never asked for highlights!!!), they were an inch from my scalp- as if i had them done a month ago!!!!!!! and not totally blonde, but reddish and yellow and not processed enough. And all that came around $200..so you would think you d get decent highlights for the price..ohh and i only get half the head anyway..im getting upset just writing this, but i want to let other people know about the treatment customers get there. I made an appointment with Virginia for the first time and I was pretty disappointed. I had to wait a while because the stylist was really behind. Someone washed my hair and then I sat in another chair for 20 minutes. This wouldn't bother me too much if the haircut had been killer, but it wasn't. I tried to explain what I wanted but she just started chopping. She was almost done cutting my hair when she asked "curly or straight?". It worried me that she never saw my hair dry. I cannot tell you how AWFUL the experience was in this place. I went in for a blow out, and asked for some curls. I ended up with a hideous updo that my stylist did not even ASK my input on. Not to mention the fact that she told me my hair was thin and that I couldn't have the updo I wanted because my hair had "no shine or color." The kicker?! They charged me $88!!!!!! You cannot charge someone that much money for an updo without getting approval yet. Also, the woman that washed my hair got myself and my friends soaking wet. This is a 100% honest review. When I called to schedule an appointment, they quoted me 25 to do blowout and waves on the bottom. That's exactly what the woman who washed my hair said. I recognized her voice because my friend and I had stopped by days earlier to ask her as well. Now my friend was running late and I'm sure that annoyed the stylist, but I came on time and that shouldn't affect the service provided to me. But as soon as I sat in the chair, I felt rushed. I understand they were fully booked, but I came on time and yet, everything about my experience was terrible. I said I wanted "volume and wavy hair." She confirmed with me again, "do you want wavy or curly?" I said "wavy." She understood well. And I knew she understood because she asked the assistant for the heating iron saying wavy. But that is not what she gave me. I literally had curly hair from top to bottom. She asked how I liked it. Before I can respond, she said "a little poofy?" I said yes. And then she had the nerve to say these exact words "you asked for poofy. You said poofy and wavy." I was in shock. I told her "no I never said that. I asked for wavy." Then she made an excuse saying the reason it looks so poofy is because I have thick hair. That is something I think an amateur or careless stylist would say. I've gotten my hair waved at many salons and they never make some excuse like that. It was obvious she was annoyed. She blow dried the top of my hair a little. And tried to wave it the other direction. The reason I didn't ask for hairspray is because I did not want the awful curls to stay. Thank God it was humid that day because the curls loosened up a lot before my event. When I got off the chair, she clapped her hands and said ok next. When I went up to pay, the bill was 51. Basically double what I was quoted. I was pissed, but I was still going to tip her on card because it was still time she spent on my hair. But they didn't let me tip on card and I thought this is BS, I'm being too nice because she did not give me what i asked and literally put lies in my mouth saying I asked for "poofy" hair. Who goes into a salon asking for poofy hair? You cannot treat customers like that. She knew exactly what I asked for and even confirmed. And then pretended like I asked for something else. I paid my bill because I am not one to make a scene. I would never recommend this salon to anyone. The stylist should be ashamed of herself to make something like that up. I visited Envee 2 years ago, but still feel the need to give an honest review considering how poorly my hair turned out. I requested my hair to be dyed a light brown, but what I ended up with was a streaky mess. Orsula insisted that she had to put in blonde streaky highlights in order to brighten my hair since I had previously colored my hair. My hair ended up being like 4 different colors and definitely not the single process light brown I was hoping for. It literally looked like a Hannah Montana wig. I only do my hair once in a blue moon so this time around I wanted to find a really exceptional hair stylist. I decided to make an appointment with Oz based on his stellar online reviews. I have had less than satisfactory experiences in the past where stylists would either badly damage my hair or where I would have drastically different results from what they initially claimed they could deliver. So this time around I wanted to make sure I went to a reputable stylist. I'm so happy I found Oz because he really is the best! He is a consummate professional with unparalleled technical skills, a sharp eye and excellent taste. I could tell right away that he could interpret precisely what I wanted despite my kind of vague description. He analyzed my hair carefully and helped me customize my vision to ensure optimal results. I wanted a more blond, less brassy color which I have been told in the past is hard to achieve with my darker hair color but he was able to get it just right. I really trusted him right off the bat. There is something about him that instills confidence and I felt reassured that I was in good hands. He is very honest and I totally appreciated all his advice. The space he uses in Envee Salon is also clean, airy, comfortable and conveniently located. The other stylists there were also doing amazing hair from what I could see. Make note that if you want Oz specifically, let the salon know and they will give you his direct line so that he can book an appointment for you personally. When I called he was pretty fully booked but he made sure to accommodate me, and assured me that he wanted to make sure we had enough time so he wouldn't have to rush. He is the most committed, hardest working stylist there is! Really a stand up guy. I know his clients adore him and I can see why. I'm finished with Envee, or at the very least, with Orsula. I liked Anastasia while she was there, but she has since left the salon. I thought I'd be fine with Orsula because she has given me two decent cuts in the past, but clearly I was wrong. One time I let her talk me into a style that angles down along the jawline, and while I've seen that on others, it does not work on my hair at all! One coworker asked me if the haircut was "a mistake". This time around, I was a bit unsure what I should do with my hair, which was my first error. She tried to talk me into the same cut. I told her absolutely not, it doesn't look good on my hair. I asked for a little of the length off and to frame the layers around my face. What does she do? She gives me a bob. NOT what I asked for! Apparently I need to go to beauty school to learn the language of the haircut. Going to this salon was convenient when I lived over in Astoria, but since I've moved back to Manhattan, it's been a pain to get over there. I brought my two daughters there to get their hair done for my younger daughters sweet 16 party. It was a mistake. They were having difficulty coming up with a hair do putting her hair on the side because her hair was very long. I got the feeling they don't have experienced staff to work with long hair or the staff was not offered to us. Before we got to the venue both of their hairdo's were a mess. What a mistake. I should of never went there. I will never go there again. read more
