The store on 14 Mile in Troy near Oakland Mall is shady and crooked. I went in to buy prescription sunglasses and the saleslady showed me very expensive frames on the wall. I told her I wanted the cheaper frames shown on their website and she said they didn't have any of those frames in the store. When I accused them of bait and switch, she went and got her manager, who came out with a key and unlocked a cabinet with the cheaper frames shown online, right after the saleslady said they didn't carry those frames in the store. I chose one of the cheaper frames. Then she purposely screwed up the order so when the glasses came in, they were clear glass, not tinted as sunglasses. She said the lab made the mistake, but then she proceeded to ask me what color tint I wanted and how dark, which she didn't ask me when I originally order them. The order wasn't sent in with the tint information and I believe she did it on purpose. I had to wait another week for the glasses to be remade. She was curt and dismissive. I hope nothing goes wrong with the glasses because I don't want to have to go back there. read more

I called to make sure they were in-network and was told they were, only to find out after the appointment that they were not. They didn't even ask us what features we wanted on our glasses. They just added every single bell & whistle which resulted in a ridiculous bill because they were not in network. We also told them we wanted slim lenses which they guaranteed would be and charged us extra. When we got the glasses, they were they as thick as our old ones. They explained to us that that was the thinnest they could make them due to the prescription and the frame type----then why the hell did they assure in that they'd be thin during the ordering process??? - oh yeah, to charge us for it. The employees that work here are AMAZING and I feel so sorry for them that they have to work with the older blonde manager with the accent. She was an ABSOLUTELY NASTY WENCH,to put it nicely. She was yelling at her workers in front of customers telling them what they're doing isn't important (literally talking to us & getting us checked in) and that someone else would deal with us. I recently got a new pair of rimless eyeglasses from an online-only retailer. If you don't know, rimless means these glasses don't have frames. The bridge and temples screw directly into the lenses. Rimless also means these things are delicate so, of course, it was only a matter of time before I messed them up. It took me only a couple weeks after receiving them before I slept with them on and got them all bent out of shape. At that point they no longer sat properly on my face. The retailer didn't have any repair options so I visited LensCrafters thinking they'd be able to send them to Ray-Ban for repair. Well, after checking in at the store, I was asked to have a seat and wait while the tech took a look at my glasses. After a short while, she returned with my glasses all magically back to normal. I was amazed and extremely grateful. My next surprise came when I was told the repair was complimentary. I later realized that they offer minor repairs for free but I gotta give LensCrafters props for great, talented employees and for running a smooth operation during lockdown. The manager, blonde lady, lied straight to my face about how pupil distance measurements work and told me she couldn't provide it because it varies depending on the frame I select. I'm aware they don't want people to buy their glasses from other locations after getting your exam there and exclude this number from prescription sheets presumably for that reason, but spreading around misinformation and using fear tactics to make sales is not cool. read more

My daughter's only pair of glasses was broken at school and we hurried to LensCrafter for a new pair. Staffs (Jerry and Betty) were awesome! Jerry helped with the glasses search, adjustment and measurements, and Betty helped with the finalization of the glasses. She waited patiently for us to get the most comfortable structure for my daughter even though it is close to her off time. We got the glasses within an hour. We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend the shop at Troy, MI for everyone. read more

I tried LensCrafters for the first time via Somerset in Troy. First, my eye appointment was for 3:30 and I didn't get in to see a doctor until around 4:15. I then had to wait in the lobby for 30 more minutes to finally check out. Second, the service rep was more concerned about selling me crap I don't need, or want, than actually finding out what I actually do need. Finally, IT'S BEEN ALMOST A MONTH since my appointment and I still have yet to receive a call from them notifying me that my trial contacts are ready. I've been wearing prescription eyewear since 1971 and have never had to wait more than 7-10 days for any type of eyewear to be completed. So, What's the fricking hold-up???!!! I don't think I'll be returning to LensCrafters, and instead will mosey my way on back to Target Optical for my eyewear needs. P.S. Dr. Aaron Caldwell was very down to earth, competent, and friendly. I used to go to Roland Optics (or Optical?) in Farmington Hills, but after realizing that Lens Crafters now carries luxury eyewear should I opt for it (which was the only reason I went to Roland), I decided to give them a try. In less than 2 hours, I was helped by a salesperson, fitted for a flattering frame (the New Wayfarers by Ray-Ban), and had my lenses made with a prescription. They were definitely not cheap, and I could have probably gotten them cheaper from FramesDirect.com, but hey, they were ready in under 2 hours, and look pretty fly. read more

Visited twice and this store has an inconsistent service quality: 1 Optometrist: outstanding. The best I have worked with. And this is critical for me, since I have very bad vision. 2 Salesperson: not good. Behaved like an employee on a 100% commission basis. Tried every possible angle to sell me much more than I needed. 3 Service rep when I picked up my glasses: excellent professional 4 Other staff: obnoxious. Two staff members who had nothing to do were standing next to the service rep who was taking excellent care of me and were yepping so loudly that I could not understand the service rep. After ten minutes I asked the loudest mouth to stop it. She was offended. Made an appointment 2 weeks in advance. Waited for 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. There must have been 7 employees standing around. Not one person greeted us. We stood there like idiots. We purchased my sons first pair of glasses here, and because he's 7 years old we opted to get the insurance that will replace the glasses/lenses for a small deductible +taxes. After about 6 months his glasses broke and we went in to file a claim. Everything went smoothly however it took 2 months to get the replacement pair. 2 whole months my son had to go without glasses. Called multiple times and no one knew anything. No one was willing to help. Was promised I would get a call back every time we called. Never got any calls. Called corporate and filed a complaint and they were not willing to help. They were just as clueless and blamed the store. I will never be going to LensCrafters and Would not recommend LensCrafters to anyone in the future. read more

The boyfriend needed to get his glasses tightened. Because he had bought them at LensCrafters, we went here. The staff member grilled him on whether he actually had bought his glasses at LensCrafters, saying that he didn't remember seeing his glasses before. After a couple minutes of arguing back and forth, he finally agreed to adjust the glasses. I don't claim to know much about adjusting glasses, but here's what I understand. When tightening plastic frames, they heat up the frame until it is pliable. They then let the frame cool down before putting the lenses back in. Well... this staff member did NOT let the frame cool down, and when he put the lenses back in, the lenses MELTED along the edges. We immediately noticed this and brought it to his attention. His response was to argue with us (again) and say, "You're not supposed to put the lenses back in when the frame is too hot. You must have done that in the past." Ummm we never heat up our glasses ourselves... we ask opticians to take care of that. I can't believe this person blamed HIS foul-up on us. Never going back to LensCrafters. read more

Update! When I left on the 5th, the ladies today me it would be 7-10 business days till my glasses came in and they got them in early! The final product of my glasses were amazing! The ladies names were Gerri and Lisa! I can't remember the doctors name for the life of me but they were phenomenal! I was just there on the 5th and I was meaning to do a review but it's been a little crazy lately! I work from my phone and needed some glasses and they were honestly so amazing! I dropped my glasses in a parking lot. By the time I found them the next day they had been stepped on or run over and they looked like a total loss. I took them back to LensCrafters at Somerset Collection, Troy, MI expecting that I'd have to buy a new pair but they were able to bend them back into shape and I was good to go in about 20 minutes. The assistant manager just didn't feel like doing a return!!! 2.5 stars solely for this location. All LensCrafters function differently, and unfortunately, the Somerset location falls victim to 1. too many people occupying the space, and 2. inability to handle such high volume of foot traffic. I've come here several times within the last few years, and purchased a pair of glasses a few years back here with not a ton of problems. The process was pretty straightforward and mundane, and nothing to really gripe about. Fast forward to 2013, Husband and I were on the market to get new spectacles. I'm largely a contact lens wearer, but I also like to switch off with glasses. Since they are running their Semi-Annual sale now, where lenses are 50% off with a purchase of a new frame, we decided to take advantage of it. Our first visit was on a Saturday, and was pretty dismal, where we literally had to chase somebody down to get any ounce of service. Frustrated and annoyed with statements of "you're going to have to wait a while as we have too many people here right now" and "we can't get to you today", we left that time, and decided to sit on things and see if we really wanted to come back. After a few weeks, we contemplated and tried to come on a weekday instead to see if a smaller volume would change the quality of service that we'd receive. Well, the good news was that, it indeed, WAS BETTER. Not only one, but two, came to assist us, and we moved pretty swiftly with our decision making and getting the proper measurements. Since we had to come back another day to get our spectacles, we left pretty quickly. Once we got our order in, the lady who adjusted our glasses was pretty apathetic and not helpful at all. She kept on convincing Husband that his glasses could not be adjusted because there was a rubber/plastic housing at the tips of his glasses. We're raising our eyebrows and thinking, "Are you serious? Glasses that can't be adjusted? Give me a break." Reluctant to stay there any longer, we took her word for it. My glasses were adjusted mildly, but she didn't care to even check if it really properly sat on the back of my ear, and I told her that she angled the pieces too far in, causing it to pinch the side of my ear and head. Sigh..it was annoying to say the least, but I dealt with it. After a week of wearing our glasses, and having our ears and side of head hurting due to the improper fit, we went back, but not to this location. The Twelve Oaks Mall location was 10x better, and the women were a heck of a lot more charming, friendly, and professional. They actually checked to see if our glasses properly fit, and my gosh...she confirmed our suspicions that Husband's glasses INDEED CAN BE ADJUSTED. Sheesh. The outcome ended up fine, but I will never go back to the Somerset location. Those women really need to get a reality check and do their job properly and with more attention to detail/care, or they will not get anymore business. Over the weekend I paid for a routine eye exam. I planned on getting specs online with warby parker so just needed updated exam. Came back today cause WP needs a "PD" measurement and LC didn't do it. I asked them to do this 1 minute measurement and they refused. Didn't matter that I paid for an exam and didn't get a full exam. They don't want to give that measurement because they know that online retailers need it. I went upstairs to "See" and she did it free of charge. It took her all of 60 seconds. I have purchased exams and glasses here for years. They lost me today. I would rather pay $230 vfor awesome frames at SEE than give this place my business again. read more

Just went in today for an eye exam as i need one each year because i wear contacts. I was kind of in a poopy mood because i was tired and i didnt feel like being there or talking to people. The sales guy was super nice. He tried to make conversation with me even though i was a grump and i finally ended up loosening up bc, how can you be mean to someone who is being so nice. He definitely turned my mood around. The Doctor was Dr, Bryla I beleive. She was so nice and genuine. She took her time and explained things to me and i even got to see the back of my eye balls on the computer. How many people can say they have seen there own optic nerve. My appointment was at 3:20pm and I didn't get out of the exam room until 5:30pm! This LensCrafters has a new computerized eye exam machine that the doctor did not fully know how to use. He was frustrated and appologetic throughout my exam and my head was pounding after sitting there with lenses spinning in front of my eyes while the doctor tried to figure out how to use it. I felt sea sick. It was awful...... I have Eyemed insurance and my progressive lenses and frames came to $550.00 AFTER my insurance. Add $34.00 for accident insurance and I was at nearly $600 for a single pair of glasses! I did not place the order. I am going to try one of those online glasses companies that are a fraction of the cost. It's a gamble that I am willing to take. read more

What an embarrassment this must be for the owner to run a business that is so awful. I am not surprised to see that I am not alone in having had such a bad experience. I previously received an eye exam at this office when I was in a pinch and had to get into a place that was out of network. Three months later, I called to have my prescription faxed to my new doctor who was in my insurance network. I was first told it would not be a problem, then they changed their mind. They said they would not release the exam results because they only wanted me to come back and see them and buy contact lenses from them. I am pretty sure that is not how this business is supposed to work. So now I have to schedule a new eye exam even though I just had one three months ago. From my experience, Dr. Bryla is condescending and rude. If you wear contacts, she will push you to purchase both contacts and glasses at your appointment by throwing around lofty comments like "as a doctor i can't let you not purchase glasses", despite the fact that I told her I was looking to purchase them in the next few weeks. She must be shy of her quota for the quarter. When I refused to pay $30 for her to show me a picture of my eye she promptly ended the exam without explaining whether my Rx had worsened or stabilized and handed me off immediately to the sales person. The process felt very cold and unprofessional. As a healthcare professional myself, this is very disappointing. I will not be returning and will purchase my contact lenses from Costco, where the optometrist is warm, inviting and professional. read more

Let me begin by saying I am not sensitive to think that everything is racial; however, I felt extremely uncomfortable after being watched like a hawk while I browsed through the Chanel eyeglasses. To make matters worst, the lady screams across the store to inform another employee that she let me in the Chanel cabinet aka "watch her." I have been getting my glasses and contact lenses for myself and my kids here for as long as I can remember. I went in yesterday to inquiry a problem with my glasses with "spots" on them and is getting worse. I was told the anti glare layer is peeling off. This is the first time ever happen to my glasses which is most expensive one. I was out of luck since it's just out of one year warranty. I was trying to get educated why it happened and I always use and clean my glasses the same way. One gentleman jumped in starting imply I had my glass contacted with chemicals and scratched the surface the way I clean them. Really??? I have been wearing glasses for at least 30 years and I KNOW how to care for them and never had problems like this before. The condescending and accusatory tone of voice from the guy is unbelievable! I will never go near them ever again. I don't usually do reviews or look at them. I felt compelled this time and was shocking how low grade most people giving them. Absolutely horrible experience. The first optometrist wrote me up for reading glasses, despite me telling her several times I needed DISTANCE glasses. The pair they made did not work well, so I went back in a few days later, and had a very nice male optometrist find that I needed a change in the prescription for one of the lenses. After a 30-minute wait, the woman in charge came back and asked me if I could see a difference. There was a little, so I said 'yes', to which she snottily replied, "I cleaned them." Also, the young man who was helping, AND this woman in charge tried repeatedly to talk me OUT of getting the new lens because "At your age, you might not even notice it." To say I was offended would be the understatement of the century. I insisted they changed the lens, which they eventually did. They took their time, failed to give me the new prescription, and ultimately indicated that they hated writing up new orders, the reason for their hesitancy in the first place. A complaint to their corporate website took three weeks to to be responded to, and was a short, dismissive email, assuring me they would talk to the people. They didn't bother to talk to me, so they had no idea what had happened, or who the people involved were. AVOID AVOID AVOID this place at all costs!!!! And to add insult to injury, their lies about being a VSP provider made me lose some of my insurance benefits. Only go there is you like being mistreated and cheated!!!!! read more
