He will not be returning there, nor will any of our other animals. Unfortunately little Cheyenne will not have the chance to go anywhere since she passed away over the weekend - as a direct result of the gross negligence she received at your office just three days prior. I was already searching for another veterinary office before this happened for multiple reasons. Besides the fact that a member of your front office staff not only lacks compassion and empathy, but she's just flat out rude. Another big concern of mine is that 90% of the knowledge I was given regarding Max's chronic condition I had to research myself. Even if I reached out asking for guidance and/or had a specific question about medication I was dismissed. I have realized that, like a shady mechanic, you would rather bring in more money with repeat visits than to actually address concerns and provide solutions. But at least cars don't suffer like animals do. One of the few things I am grateful for is that this all happened over the weekend, when your office was closed. Because of that, Cheyenne spent her last moments at the Deerfield Animal Hospital with a staff who treated both her and us with compassion, care, concern and support. None of which we would have received at your facility. Since the weekend I have spent a lot of time reading reviews about your office and this type of treatment (or lack thereof) seems to be a common thing. Heartbreaking. I will not give you the chance to put another of my animals through the suffering Cheyenne was forced to go through. Shame on you.

Our beloved 7 year old french bulldog, Parker, experienced the acute onset of excruciating pain, severe panting, and bilateral hind leg weakness. The emergency vet ordered bloodwork and several X-rays, then attempted to convince my distraught fiancée that Parker needed an expensive surgery to widen his nasal passages (which have never bothered him in 7 years). She sent Parker home with an Augmentin prescription that was prescribed with no indication. Not once did she mention the possibility Parker might have something else causing his symptoms. Did she even examine his back and legs? Did she find his tenderness to palpation of the spine? That night Parker's weakness progressed and his panting worsened. It was unbearable to see him like that. The next morning we took him to a second vet who looked at the X-rays, considered the symptoms, and immediately diagnosed him with IVDD - a very common diagnosis in frenchies. High dose steroids were prescribed along with a muscle relaxer but it was too late. We lost Parker 24 hours later. Any vet with even a modicum of skill should have considered this diagnosis when treating a dog of this breed presenting with these symptoms. This should have been considered even without having imaging to back it up. But she did have the X-ray - and it showed a very deformed vertebrae at the precise location Parker had exquisite tenderness to palpation on his back. The diagnosis was clear. A disc had likely ruptured, causing extreme pain (manifesting as panting at rest and reluctance to move), progressive weakness, ataxia, and eventually paraplegia. A physician is taught to read the entire X-ray. Parker's spine was obviously deformed. Combined with his symptoms and his physical exam the diagnosis was clear. The vet missed this. She may not be a medical doctor, but she is a doctor of veterinary medicine. She should have known better and she should have done better. I don't recommend you take your beloved pets to this vet.

    We've been going to this vet for a few years but won't be going there any longer…read more In the past they were able to see our dog after giving her a calming medication, pre-visit. This was the case for the last 3 years. Unfortunately, on our last visit, and despite giving our dog the calming medication ahead of time, they refused to examine her despite her very calm demeanor. They said they would only examine her if she was wearing a muzzle, which was not communicated when we made our appointment, nor was this ever a requirement before. They would not assist in placing the muzzle on our dog, making me do it. Of course, our dog was not used to muzzles and resisted. When this happened they said we would have to take her to an ER hospital an hour away and refused to examine her. I understand concerns about a nervous dog biting someone but our dog was very calm and has never bitten anyone, ever. I would have thought a vet, especially one that has direct experience with specific dog, would be equipped to handle situations when a dog may become nervous. This veterinarian left us feeling helpless while we were very concerned about our dog who was in physical pain that we did not yet understand. He was stand-offish from the beginning and wouldn't try to work with us. I asked him about possibly opting for more sedation but he refused. His overall attitude was negative, unprofessional, and one I don't ever want to be around again. My guess is he didn't have confidence he could diagnose our dog's issue and was avoiding it altogether. We took our dog to Pittsfield Veterinarian Hospital and they were amazing. They had the trained staff capable of examining a nervous dog. Our dog did get a little nervous but never needed a muzzle. They clearly know how to handle pets of all types of demeanors and were knowledgeable about potential root causes. They diagnosed our dog within 20min. We understood why she was in pain and left there with a sound treatment plan. Maybe South St is a decent place for pets who don't get nervous but I'm dumbfounded at how experienced vets are so poorly equipped to handle a sedated dog who has a history of getting nervous, and mind you has NEVER bitten anyone! I highly recommend NOT going to South St. if you need anything more than a routine checkup and don't want to experience vets with poor attitudes with no adaptability to deal with minor challenges.

    Dr. Sidorsky saved my best friend's life…read more After having had consulted with our previous vet, and having been provided with questionable advice, I contacted the good doctor in order to seek out a second opinion. He provided me with excellent advice via phone, and after being refused further treatment by my previous vet, Dr. Sidorsky offered to come by my home and provide me with some options. All of our animals, including my sick dog, felt comfortable around him, and he provided me with detailed 1 on 1 instruction in administration of the antibiotics and use of equipment that he provided me. He followed up with me on a daily basis regarding progress, and made a second house call to confirm that my dog's health had improved. At the initial visit, we were discussing hospice and a shot in the dark to save my dog's life. Now we're discussing how much he has improved. His prices were on par (if not lower in some ways ) than my normal vet, and his bedside manner professional and compassionate. I've found my new vet, and am recommending him to all my friends. Having a vet do house call may seem a bit odd at first glance, but I can say from experience that it's my new preference (no more having to load the animal into the car and have them terrified at the smell of the regular vet). Try his service out. You won't be disappointed.
