This is simply the best place you can take your cat for anything. I've had to bring my 8 year old cat there for an operation a couple of years ago. They did a great job. They're my new go to for him for anything, from shots to nail clipping to products. The Doc. REALLY takes a lot of time to make your cat comfortable in an almost intuitive way, and will do anything (even creatively) to make the experience less traumatic for them. If you're in a hurry to scoot in and out, let her know because you'll be there for a bit because she really, really cares about your cat. I love this the beat about her. I am a new owner of 2 kittens that we got from a rescue. One was so sick with URI and was having trouble breathing. They took us in right away. He still has issues related to this getting eye infections often. I call on days that they aren't even open or when Dr. Sally is on vacation and I get a call back right away and medications (they even opened the office for me to come in and pick up). Dr. Sally and staff give so much care to us when we are there. I love the thoughtful approach when prescribing medication and trying more natural ways first which is my experience with her. I have never had an experience like the negative reviews claim. I would never expect her to remember every detail about my cats as she probably sees thousands. I pay after my visit and I might add that I feel that the prices are reasonable she spends a lot of time with you and the follow up from her team is phenomenal (phone calls and emails). I have been to this hospital for my cat. Even though the vet was caring to both my feline friend and myself, the way she treats her staff is deplorable. What an OUTSTANDING doctor. My late Luciano loved the doctor. She specializes only in cats. My new baby Angus had such a thorough exam with her. She even made a house call with my late Luciano. I can no longer recommend this establishment. I used Dr Umlauf for a year, making frequent visits. I have eight (fragile) cats. We went through a severe illness that affected all. Three cats had extensive dental procedures. One had a complicated internal surgery. Another battles a GI problem. Two have allergies. And one needed euthanasia. I have no complaints about the actual veterinary care. Dr Umlauf knows her stuff. However, I have became increasingly disillusioned with her dedication after we left the exam room. Prescriptions would be written up wrong....or just plain forgotten. Promised prescriptions, procedures or equipment would be forgotten and I would have to repeatedly remind her. She would get confused as to which cat had which problem. Solutions to problems would be suggested during visits and then I would be the only one who remembered. I spent a lot of time making anxious phone calls to the office, not really knowing what was going on, but fully aware my cats weren't 100% yet. Return phone calls would be a long time coming...or would be made by a support staff member who didn't really have an answer. Also, I like to pay as I go. After mentioning that several times, I gave up. My bill was never ready in a timely fashion. I was getting really frustrated. I pointed this out to Dr Umlauf who promised better, but that never happened. Things only got worse. Repeated phone calls wouldn't be returned for over a week (a week!! When a sick cat was involved!) Ordered medicine or food wouldn't show up for a month. I would stop at the office and watch Dr Umlauf repeatedly duck behind a screen to avoid me. (even when I made it clear I was trying to pay off my bill, never mind a question about one of her patients). It became apparent that whatever problem she had with me, she was letting it interfere with the care of my cats. I reluctantly decided to switch vets. And even that wasn't easy. I sat in the Cat Hospital office for over an hour while Dr Umlauf wrote medical notes on the current cat with a problem...notes that included inflammatory personal comments about me. Why that was on my cat's medical records, I can only guess, but I do know that convinced me I made the right decision. I waited even longer for the bill. And I waited! I wasn't leaving until it was paid in full. After reading the comments about me, I surely was never going back there. And so, getting the rest of my cats' records from Dr Umlauf required weeks of phone calls from both me and the new office, and finally a visit from my current vet. My guess is, based on all of this, is that Dr Umlauf doesn't keep her medical records current, by any means. And woe to the owner if they somehow question any of this. So...if you have a healthy cat, or one without a complicated, ongoing problem the Lenox Cat Hospital is the place. Hands on, Dr Umlauf a superb vet. Beyond that, she falls short. Follow-up care can be rough going ( and let me add, it's not the support staff. Dr Umlauf would blame them but I know for a certainty, lapses are not their fault. All the girls working at the Cat Hospital are conscientious and incredibly caring.) Bottom line, do you really love cats if you let feelings about their owner impact their care? I'm happy at my new/old vet and, even if I'm unpleasant (and that's debatable), my beautiful Persians and Himalayans are now well-cared for and finally in reasonably good health. read more

Dr Sally is wonderful with cats. Don't be put off by the higher than usual exam charge, (she does spend an hour +), her other services like blood work or teeth cleanings are cheaper than everyone else. And she is just great with cats. A cat whisperer would be a great description for her. Very knowledgeable too, not every vet knows about asthmatic kitties and Dr Sally Umlauf was very familiar with all the subtleties including the AeroKat inhaler. I highly recommend her! read more

The completely nonsensical (dare I say, hysterical) review with all the ridiculous personal attacks on Dr. Sally was so Here's just one of our experience's over the course of our relationship with Lenox Cat Hospital, The Fabulous Dr. Sally, and her Wonder Team. We have rescue kitties that are all seen by this fantastic woman. Dr. Sally and her entire staff are simply the best. They take all the time that's needed to keep both the kitty and the kitty's human healthy and happy. Here's our experience and how Dr. Sally went above and beyond the norm. We had to rush our sick little calico over to the hospital one late afternoon. We called before we left and got the answering machine. We left a message and said we were on our way. We didn't know if they had gotten the message or if there was going to be anyone there. Lo and behold when we got there they were waiting for us. I was in a state of panic and in tears. Dr. Sally not only took care of Cameo she was incredibly kind to me and kept giving me the reassurance I needed. We were given all the compassion and comforting one could possibly hope for AND this incredible woman stayed into the late evening to see that Cameo got everything she needed to get better. This cat hospital is horribly run. There is a high level of disorganization and forgetfulness, and lack of attention and accountability. I initially felt that the time and attention Dr. Umlauf provided to my cats during my visit there was amazing; however, I became disillusioned when I needed to follow up with the office numerous times to check on prescription food ordered for my cat - the first time, the person I spoke to had no idea what was going on, the second call revealed that the office forgot to order it after saying they would, the third call ended in me being told the food had come in and it had been sold out again (despite me never being contacted) and being told I should order it online, and finally I did obtain the food elsewhere. However, multiple calls to the doctor to determine what the issue was with lack of follow-up, what the status of my cats vaccinations were (this doctor recommends FVRCP once every three years when it is a one year immunization), and the status of overcharges on my visit being refunded to me, resulted in the doctor never returning my calls in a reasonable manner. For example, she would call at 9:30pm or I would be promised a call during a certain time of day that never came. Eventually, after putting in much time and effort to get things straightened out and some assurances as to the quality of future care, I had to give up. I had to take my cats to another vet to get their FVRCP which was overdue (because I accepted Dr. Umlauf's recommendation), and I have never received the refund check on the overcharges that I was promised. Dr. Umlauf is knowledgeable and friendly but the unreliable care here is not worth it. read more

New to the area, I was worried to find a good vet (yes, I'm picky, I've done a lot of rescue work and have worked with many vets over the years) when a friend suggested I go to Dr. Sally for my injured kitty. Omeegosh, was I glad I did! Dr. Sally is not only great with cats, she's wonderful, intelligent and caring towards the human part of the equation as well. She carefully listened to my concerns about prednisone (there is a connection between prednisone and onset of feline diabetes) and she accepted that i consider it too risky for my middle aged male cats. I've already had one develop diabetes after one big shot of prednisone (which I never requested!). Beyond that, Dr. Sally's staff couldn't have been nicer, sweeter to my kitty and he left a happy camper. Of course, he DID have a big shot of painkiller. And I must admit, I envied his "la-la" state of mind, all purring and rolling about. Highly recommend Dr. Sally and her clinic. read more
