Lennies is a very clean efficient launderette. Lennie himself is very helpful should you need assistance.

It's fine. I think it's one of the only laundromats in town, so don't have any fancy expectations…read more I was traveling and it was my one of my only chances to do laundry. Things to note: ***Before you go, don't forget to BRING YOUR CHANGE*** There is no change machine and the prices are not insignificant (several pounds total for just one load of wash and dry). When I went, the other shops were also closed--and from what I heard, also often don't make change, especially for the amount needed for the machines. Take note of the hours, and it sounds like they will close promptly, so give yourself enough time before closing. Find it about halfway down a corridor of shops. It's all self service, no attendant, just a phone number if assistance is needed. Soap is available for purchase from a dispenser. There are different machine types to choose from, the larger capacity wash machines of course changes more. The machines that I used worked fine, and were relatively quick.

This is a quiet laundrymat…read more Three large machines closed. 2 dryers closed. 4 one lb coins on smaller standard washer. 28 minutes on cold. 3 coins on dryer, 30 minutes on high. No coin machine. We brought our own soap pods. Soap dispenser does work one coin. 2 benches to sit on for the wait. Bring a book. Others leave and return, but not exact on the clock. So we stayed to be sure to get the last dryer available. Running now. No lights on, kind of dim. Open 8-8 , but last wash to go in before 7. Sign posted. He may lock you out. Big sign. Machines look clean enough, no visible Pet hair. This will work. Another 9 days of clothes and we ll be off..

This is overall a nice laundromat. 5 small washers (£5 wash), 4 large washers (£9 wash) and 6…read moredryers large enough to dry a king size duvet. The place is fairly clean although could be better and there is only two small tables to fold clothes and one is under where the soap and fabric softener are dispensed so it was coated with laundry soap powder and the other is under the pay station (so in the way and the stuff on it gives the impression it's not meant to be used). The machines were easy to use and I really appreciated the contactless credit card payment option (without an extra fee). Just across the street is a cute little parklet with benches to enjoy some fresh air while you wait. There are also plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. One of the frustrating things I encountered was that there was a laundry soap dispensing machine but it only accepts coins. So if you think you're going to be able to do your laundry without cash you better have your own soap. Also, the machine does not sell dryer sheets, only laundry soap and fabric softener. When I bought the laundry soap the box got stuck in the machine and I couldn't get it free with even my small hands. It would have also been nice if there was an unscented laundry soap option. Important to note that the last wash is at 20:00 (8 pm) even though it's open until 22:00 (10 pm). The sign says that the water supply cuts off. They do have WiFi and the code is posted on the wall. However, after I logged in it didn't actually work to connect to the internet for me. So overall, the best option I could find near the city centre of Bristol.

Okay, so I was until now a launderette virgin, and have to admit I was quite intimidated by the…read moreidea of visiting one because I didn't have a clue what to do. However, my spare sofa cover needed washing and is too big for my own washing machine... Sure enough, the whole launderette experience started off being quite traumatic, but now I've done it once it would be easier second time around! For fellow novices, here's what you need to know: 1. First, you need to have the right change. It's £3.20 for a wash in one of the smaller machines. During the day, they probably have someone there doing service washes who may be able to give you some change - but when I went in the evening I had to walk down the road to a newsagent's to ask for change. I had to leave my washing dumped there (because I couldn't carry it that far), and was just keeping my fingers crossed that no one would pinch it. Luckily for me (and I can't think why), no one took a shining to my dirty sofa covers and they were still safely waiting for me when I got back with the right change. 2. Next you need to choose a washing machine and put your washing and soap in. You can take your own soap, or buy it there (80p I believe). I took along a capsule type one and stuck it in the washing machine drum itself, but most people were using soap powder so I don't know if I was breaking any rules. Worked fine, though. Just make sure the knob on the front is set to the temperature you want (I think there's just a choice of 'cold', 'hot' and one other that I didn't understand). The doors are quite difficult to press shut - you have to push them quite hard! 3. To get the wash started, you put the money in not at your individual washing machine, but at a central paypoint within the launderette. You have to press in the washing machine's number, then insert the correct change, then press 'S' to start it. 4. You sit and wait about 25 minutes for a normal wash cycle to finish. I took a book and sat reading. Once all the lights are off, you can press a level to open the door and remove your washing. Job done! There are also dryers on the other side of the launderette, but I didn't use those because I thought my sofa covers might shrink - I just brought them home wet to dry naturally.

There's something about this launderette; it reminds me of Dot Cotton's Launderette in Eastenders…read more I'm often hit with a wave of nostalgia as I walk past it and see people chatting away, or simply reading the paper and delighting in the stress-free task of waiting for their washing to finish. Don't ask me why I feel nostalgic - just for the record, I'm not an old pensioner reminiscing about 'the good old days down the launderette'. I suppose I just enjoy the sense of community this place inspires. Furthermore, if you have laundry that requires a thorough clean, and whites that could be whiter, this is the place to go. Boasting a range of different sized washing machines and tumble driers, Staffords spoils you for choice.
