There's 2 Thai restaurants a few doors down from each other. A common theme in New Zealand. I…read morehappened to pick this place over the other for one simple reason. The outside colors of this place are purple and yellow which reminded me of the Lakers hahaha. So you know girls.. I'm the type of dude who can decide where to eat. My methods are a bit suspect but I handle the tough stuff. That's usually the bad part of eating out. What the hell do I want?? Thai food can be very hit or miss for me here in NZ but this place did it pretty well! Pad Thai and Tom Yum for me. The Tom Yum wasn't as good as I've had, flavor was weak, not so spicy, but the pork Pad Thai made up for it. Cooked perfectly! I also loved their Thai iced coffee. As far as New Zealand eating goes this place was reasonably priced. I always tell myself, today is the day I order something other than Pad Thai or Red Curry but then my server comes, I open the menu, and awkwardly point to something random and say I'll just get Pad Thai.. Maybe next time lol Street parking. Reservations are accepted but you don't really need one on a weekday. It does fill up on weekends though so plan accordingly. They also do takeout, which is a big vibe on lazy weekends. Is it a top tier Thai spot? No.. But it's local and good enough to come back. But I think I'll try the other spot first so I can compare my options ; )

Excellent food and good service. Very generous portions. Really looking forward to my leftovers!read more

Some familiar Central Thai offerings with an added bonus of fresh NZ ingredients sprinkled in here…read moreand there. The locals love it here -- and often recommend it -- plus the owners and workers are outstanding at what they do, therefore I can see why it's well loved. On top of that, the sunset views are a lovely little perk. You'll probably need a reservation for a table even on a weekday but we sat easy enough at the bar for a walk-in and were even offered a table that opened up outside (past sunset and in the cold so we declined). To elaborate upon the aforementioned incorporation of NZ ingredients, I selected the VENISON Panang Curry (38 NZD) as my main dish. Curry not as much depth though it really wasn't needed since the venison really enriched the dish in a profound way. The venison chunks were tender though I wish it were better incorporated into the dish, not just thrown in. I also ordered a puffed roti on the side which was definitely overkill with the side of rice ordered in addition. Quite crispy though a little greasy, making for a HEAVY and rich meal. I may have gone overboard, whops. Regardless, the filling meal was satisfying. It helped that it was easy to park on the street for free. Also a lovely reprieve from Downtown Nelson.

Nahm is on the waterfront in a building that is nondescript. But when you get inside you find a lovely staff and more importantly perfectly made curries. The beef was great and the spring rolls were wonderful too. We had the Yellow chicken curry and it was just what the doctor ordered. Enough kick to be satisfying and perfectly done chicken and seafood. Parking is easy on the street and it's not far from downtown. Worth a visit if you want to get out and f the hustle and bustle of downtown Nelson.

One of the places we he'd tried suggested this place. We were a little hesitant as ethnic cuisines can be very different in different places (at least in America this is often true). I have a wonderful little Thai/Malaysian restaurant near my home and that I frequently order Tom Yum soup from. I ordered the seafood Tom Yum here and didn't think until after that i might be disappointed because it might be different from home. It was delicious. It was spicy enough to make you pause (in a good way) and still hit all the notes of a rich, flavorful broth. The soup was everything I expect from Tom Yum soup. My friends ordered the vegetable Tom Yum Soup and a Pad vegetable and the deep friend vegetable with plum sauce appetizer. Overall everything was delicious, and we were very satisfied with this little place. I wish we were staying in the area longer so that we could visit again.

The owner worked the room and the counter, with a couple female cooks/servers as well. We had Pad Thai, (because it is my wife's go to dish), Beef with chilli, onion, ginger and veggies, and chicken in chilli sauce with cashews (first item in the main course section and my son looked no farther). His chicken was the best dish, although the Pad Thai was a close second place tie with the beef. My son and I asked for medium heat, and each could have tolerated/enjoyed quite a bit more heat. After sharing around, none of us had room for dessert. The owner was quite friendly even though he was very busy, and explained that "everyone was in tonight because tomorrow I leave for a month holiday." I'd highly recommend The Original Thai, and wished that I lived in Wellington so I could go back.
