I ordered a Maine "Hod" basket from Lehman's on line as a Mother's Day gift. I later realized I had no receipt of my transaction and thinking it was my error, reordered the item. Both orders came and I have been unable to return the extra item. I have called three times and the customer service person states I must talk to someone in "corporate ". They took my phone number for a promised call back; no one called. On my second call, I was transferred to corporate and it looped me back to customer service. On my third call they gave me a corporate number, no one picks up. Finally, I wrote an email, on their website, detailing my experience and asking for interaction to resolve this. No responses! I live in California and cannot drive over to return this item. This business has a beautiful website, sends daily sales offers, to it's customers, and warm messages on it's phone "hold line". They do not follow their on line return policy. Don't be fooled, they will ignore you once they have your money. read more

Lehman's is a great place to visit. They have something for everyone, from hardware to grills, laundry soap to toys, puzzles to fudge. I highly recommend the fudge, especially the lemon tastes amazing. We were there for nearly three hours just looking around and we didn't see it all. If you can't find something here, you're not looking at all. read more

I was very impressed with my recent experience with Lehman's! Recently, I called their company to let them know that my Berkey filters had broken, though they were not old. I had purchased the Berkey from a friend who had purchased it through Lehman's. The filters broke shortly after I bought the Berkey from my friend. Without any fuss or rudeness and with absolute courtesy Lehman's replaced them without charge and without asking me to return the broken filters at my own cost. I was flabbergasted. They even shipped them straight to my own house, without me having to go pick them up from the woman who initially purchased the Berkey from them. The filters arrived in a very timely manner, and Lehman's has made a new and well-impressed customer in me. read more

For non-electric devices, hard-to-find gadgets, and general nostalgia, Lehman's is the place to go. From hand tools to hand-crank ice cream machines, you can find it here. It takes a couple hours to get through the whole store, but if you run into lunchtime, you can get a decent lunch right in the store. read more

This is a really cool store in the heart of Ohio Amish Country that has a lot to offer for both tourists and locals alike. Obviously they sell hardware store type things as well as home appliances large and small but there is so much more. They have a lot of cool things here including a great variety of old fashioned candies that you can't find in many places anymore. They had old fashioned home made sodas and even have a large section with toys. They have a lot of cool things on display to add to the experience including an old fashioned English telephone booth and an Amish buggy. The store is really large and they even have free wifi. A lot of Amish locals shop here for their supplies. The place has become somewhat of a tourist attraction and is definitely a good roadside stop to go in and walk around for awhile even of you don't plan on buying anything. If you're visiting Ohio Amish Country plan to stop and if you're just driving through consider making a side trip here. read more

I bought what was supposed to be an original owners manual for an antique refrigerator. I ordered it on-line and had to use my e-mail address to do so for which I now receive a lot of ads for Lehmans. That part I have no problem with but after paying $9 in shipping and waiting about three weeks to get to me, it was a printed download of a copied service manual. Ok, so not the original like I thought, that's a bummer, but I still want it. But why would a company make me pay $9 in shipping and wait weeks to get something that they could have just e-mailed me for free? BTW just like the other reviews, the shipping took weeks longer than they said and there is absolutely NO communication in any form to even confirm your order let alone what the shipping status is. It took me more than 45 minutes to get an online order placed. I used the catalog codes and got the items entered quickly. I applied the catalog code for 10% off and that worked. Then a "QUICK" note came up if I added another $3 to my order I'd get free shipping So I did. The trouble began at check out: no matter what I did the ordering system came back for me to enter my CC card info again. I called my bank and they said no company was trying to charge my account with that amount. Finally resorted to calling. That was another 20 minutes of waiting. The first time I called it hung up on me. Got the order placed with the help of a lovely young lady who works for "an outside ordering company." I've never heard of Lehmans before - I was intrigued by some of it's catalog offerings. But if the order is fouled up - incredibly late in arriving - or otherwise unacceptable - Lehmans will NEVER hear from me again but my friends will hear of the experience. With so many incredibly good websites, you'd think any company today would at least try to be the best. i recived qty-4 $30.00 gift cards, i have had them fro several years as eveytime i try to redeem them online, the site is down, i finally spoke to a sales person named dallas and his manager joshua, they cannot find teh gift card numbers in teh system and therefore they are all worthless, so what a scan, sell gift cards and make it impossible to redeem them, i am upset, and frustrated i also lost 1.5 hours of my life dealing with the incompetent call taker, i had to repaet everything 2-3 times, he was not suited to teh position. i would never spend a dime here becauise of this. read more

Most of the other reviews seem to be about experience with the physical store. A huge portion of this business is catalog and internet based so that is what I am reviewing. The website states that the business was started in part to serve the Amish community. Unfortunately, it seems the Amish designed and run the website. Navigation is somewhat clunky on the site. The categories have pull down subcategories but the page jumps to the category page prior to being able to click on a subcategory. My main complaint about the website is that when there is a sale they fail to list how long the sale is for. Unfortunately, when I attempted to purchase a sale item, the sale price was listed on the website but the price changed when you went into the shopping cart (more than double the sale price). I spoke with a sales associate about this and was promised they would honor the sale price but I would have to speak with customer service the next day. When I spoke with customer service I was advised that they were out of stock and did not know when they would get more, they also could not take my payment to secure the sale price. The lesson for the company is that internet sales require much better inventory controls and faster sales updates than putting an item on the shelf until it is gone. As far as the print catalog, it looks good and is well organized. I have not used the order sheet from the catalog so I have no experience. I can imagine that the backorder/out of stock problem would be exacerbated by mailing in your order. read more

Give me the Lehmans Hardware from 20 yrs ago. My wife and I always enjoyed our annual visit to the store and hours in the little hardware always seemed like minutes. Where did the time go? We would ask, Now just as one of the other comments said its all based on tourist, I now feel like I'm walking in and out of a maze of an expensive flee market, Just yesterday my wife and I went to buy a new Heartland gas cookstove to replace the one we bought 20 yrs ago and were very disappointed to find they don't even carry Heartland gas stoves at all! A room that was once filled with many styles of stoves now has ONE Elmira electric cookstove to showcase-that's it! With all the added on editions to the store,when the guy at the stoves counter was asked "where are all the stoves?" his reply was, "Well, we just don't have the room." Really?!?! No room? come on-that place is huge! What they were once known for is now full of trinkets! So we headed back home disappointed and empty handed. Oh, and by the way, the sales men at the counter couldn't even answer any questions about the stoves.They handed us a pamphlet and said it should be in here somewhere. They knew nothing about the product they were selling. P.S.-perhaps the wasted space in that big beautiful building out back for the "outlet" store could be used for some stoves! read more
