I brought in a linocut image which I received as a gift. I was looking for a professional framing…read morefor this piece which has a deep personal value to me. And I got exactly what I'd hoped for: professional consultation with recommendations tailored to my preferences. And I am very pleased with the matting and the frame. Really nice work. And the shop is also a great venue which supports and sells work by local artists. It's a nice little museum too.

American Art Co is the leading art gallery in Tacoma. As well as offering a diversity of high…read morequality artwork by local artists in a variety of media, the gallery holds several shows every year focusing on particular disciplines such as pastels, wood turning, art quilts, plein air, and more. It's worth stopping by just to view the exhibitions! If you are looking to add to your collection of quality art work by established local artists this is the place to come. Reasonably priced works are always available by such highly esteemed local artists such as Kari Tirrell, Misty Martin, Michael Ferguson, Richard Heller and more. The gallery also has many works by the late Pulitzer Prize winning artist from Vashon Island, Art Hansen. Prices are very reasonable, most works are available beautifully framed ready to hang on your walls. Speaking of framing, American Art Co. is my go to place to have art work framed. Over the years I have had many works expertly framed here. Good framing is expensive, but framing costs at American Art Co. are competitive. The quality exceeds what you can find elsewhere in the area. The owners, Tammy and Craig, will work with you to create what will work best to display your art!

GREAT WORK This is the place to take your treasures for framing. They have great suggestions, and…read morewill work options with you to get the look and price point that suits you. Great communication! I'm very pleased with the two projects they framed for gifts, in addition to the projects they have framed for my home. I went in because I had bought a living social deal and was excited to have a print that was purchased that came with a less than classy frame. I had an existing print that I wanted the new print to feel like a set or at least belonged together on the same wall. I knew this wasn't going to be a simple frame job and could potentially take some time. The existing frame I had that I wanted to match was from a different vendor, so the likelihood that they could order the exact frame was not a priority and I will give it to them, they did do some research and made every attempt to get it but was unable to. So the new choice of frame complimented the existing nicely. One thing that bothers me, when someone says they will call or email me by a certain time I would expect that to happen, even if to only say there is no update. Because this project took three months, there was a number of times where I had to call just to get an update or find out where we were at. The day came for me to pick up the project. One of the criteria I had given them was to make the frame the same size, even though the print was a different size, making up in the size of the matte. Well, the frame was a different size. They offered to correct it but that's just wastefull and frankly I wanted to be done. So I paid and we left. When I thought the experience was over, about two weeks later I received a letter from the store. While I paid what I thought was the balance, apparently I did not. I don't mind paying what is due, but it's just one more sign that this particular store needs some help in the attention department.

Love the interactions and even though I'm an amateur they make me feel like I belong there - I'm tired of shopping online. Robis has a great selection and if I can shop somewhere in person, I'm gonna do it. Give them a shot!

Long story short -- if your looking to get film developed or print projects done, there are many…read morereputable online services that do a better job for a fraction of the time compared to Robi's. I submitted a roll of 35mm film at Robi's on June 18th, I did not get the digital scans back until July 12th. When I dropped it off, I was told it would take 2 weeks max because of 'staffing shortages'. Even when I was there, no one was even working in the lab that day. I should've taken that as a sign. 2 weeks passed, I gave them a call on July 3rd. Person on the phone seemed rather annoyed I was calling inquiring about my order and put me on hold for a few minutes. He came back, said he didn't see my order in queue, and to check back next week. I then get a call on July 5th telling me there's a delay in my order because... staffing shortages. You would think if they had a lot of orders in queue, that they would have the appropriate amount of staff on hand to get caught up. I mean, that's what most normal businesses do. They don't seem to care. A full week passes, and I call them again on Friday July 12th, rather annoyed. The girl on the phone couldn't even find my order at first, and had to double check with me what the name was and what date I took it in. She comes back and says it's gonna be completed that day. Finally. I receive the transfer, and I'm disappointed. Partially my fault as the photographer, some of my photos were underexposed. But there were a few photos that weren't even properly scanned and were cut off. See attached photo. I called back to see if they could re scan and send it over, they said they would look into it. That was 3 days ago, I'm not expecting a call back and don't care at this point. Unrelated to experience above, but I've also had digital prints done here in the past and have been disappointed with the quality. I get my prints with borders there was one instance where my borders were cut unevenly and were cut into the image itself. I had to ask for a reprint. The prices here for prints aren't even competitive compared to others, and I feel they are overpriced for what you get. I tried to give it one more shot, but I wont ever do business with Robi's again. It's a shame they are one of the only camera/print/film developing businesses around the south sound, but at this point I'll do business with online vendors that have a more reasonable turn around time and better quality (ex. TheDarkRoom, iPrintfromHome.com, etc.)
